Book excerpt: We present a measurement of the dipion mass spectrum in the decay X(3872) [right arrow] J/ [psi] [pi]+ [pi]− using a 360 pb-1 sample of pp collisions at av [square root]s = 1.96 TeV collected with the CDF II detector at the Fermnilab Tevatron Collider. As a benchmark, we also extract the dipion mass distribution for [psi] (2s) [right arrow] J/ [psi] [pi]+ [pi]− decay. The X(3872) dipion mass spectrum is compared to QCD multipole expansion predictions for various charmonium states, as well as to the hypothesis [right arrow] J/ [psi] po. We find that the measured spectrum is compatible with 3S1 charmonium decaying to J/ [psi] [pi]+ [pi]− - and with the X(3872) - J/po hypothesis. There is, however, no 3S1 charmonium state available for assignment to the X(3872). The multipole expansion calculations for 1P1 and 3DJ states are in clear disagreement with the X(3872) data. For the [psi] (2S) the data agrees well with previously published results and to multipole expansion calculations for 3S1 charmonium. Other, non-charmonium, models for the X(3872) are described too. We conclude that since the dipion mass spectrum for X(3872) is compatible with J/pO hypothesis, the X(3872) should be C-positive. This conclusion is supported by recent results from Belle Collaboration which observed X(3872) -+ J/7y decay. We argue that if X(3872) is a charmonium, then it should be either ... state, decaying into J/ [psi] [pi]+ [pi]− in violation of isospin conservation. A non-charmonium assignment, such as DD* molecule, is also quite possible.

The spectrum is fit with predictions for odd C-parity (3S1, 1P1, and 3D{sub J}) charmonia decaying to J/??+?−, as well as event C-parity states in which the pions are from?° decay. The latter case also encompasses exotic interpretations, such as a D°{bar D}*° molecule. Only the 3S1 and J/?? hypotheses are compatible with the data. Since 3S1 is untenable on other grounds, decay via J/?? is favored, which implies C = +1 for the X(3872). Models for different J/?-? angular momenta L are considered. Flexibility in the models, especially the introduction of?-? interference, enable good descriptions of the data for both L = 0 and 1.

Compact diquarks as building blocks of a new spectroscopy are presented and confronted with alternative explanations of the XYZ resonances. Ways to distinguish among theoretical alternatives are illustrated, to be tested with the help of high luminosity LHC, electron-positron colliders, and the proposed Tera-Z colliders. Non-perturbative treatments of multiquark hadrons, such as large N expansion, lattice QCD simulations, and predictions about doubly heavy multiquarks are reviewed in considerable detail. This study is based on 454 fb−1 of data recorded with the BABAR detector at a center-of-mass energy in the?(4S) resonance region. From a fit with a single non-relativistic Breit-Wigner shape we obtain updated parameters for the Y(4260) resonance which are m{sub Y} = 4252 ± 6−3{sup +2} MeV/c2 and?{sub Y} = 105 ± 18−6{sup +4} MeV/c2; we also measure?(?+?− J/?)?{sub e{sup +}e−} = (7.5 ± 0.9 ± 0.8) eV. We cannot confirm the recent BELLE observation of a broad structure around 4.05GeV/c2 in this decay mode.

The data set contains approximately 56 million B[bar B] pairs produced at the[Upsilon](4S) resonance and recorded with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy e[sup+]e[sup -] storage ring. The result of this analysis is[Beta](B[sup 0][yields] J/[psi][pi][sup+][pi][sup -])= (4.6[+-] 0.7[+-] 0.6) x 10[sup -5], where the first error is statistical and the second is systematic. In addition we measure[Beta](B[sup 0][yields] J?[psi][rho][sup 0])= (1.6[+-] 0.6[+-] 0.4) x 10[sup -5].

Book excerpt: We investigate the nature of the near-threshold enhancement in the p {bar p} invariant mass spectrum of the reaction J/[Psi] → [gamma] p {bar p} reported recently by the BES Collaboration. Using the Juelich N {bar N} model we show that the mass dependence of the p {bar p} spectrum close to the threshold can be reproduced by the S-wave p {bar p} final state interaction in the isospin I=1 state within the Watson-Migdal approach. However, because of our poor knowledge of the N {bar N} interaction near threshold and of the J/[Psi] → [gamma] p {bar p} reaction mechanism and in view of the controversial situation in the decay J/[Psi] → [pi]° p {bar p}, where no obvious signs of a p {bar p} final state interaction are seen, explanations other than final state interactions cannot be ruled out at the present stage.
