We use a sample of 22.72 ± 0.36 million B{bar B} events collected between October 1999 and October 2000 with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II storage rings at the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center. The charmonium mesons considered here are J/[psi], [psi](2S), [chi]{sub c1}, and the light meson in the decay is either a K, K*, or [pi]°.

The convincing evidence of solar neutrino oscillations had been presented by SNO prior to the conference; a full presentation was given at the conference. An incredibly precise measurement of the anomalous magnetic moment of the muon is reported, a fresh result from the Brookhaven National Laboratory. Apart from these distinct physics highlights, there are also the first results from the new Tevatron run and from the relativistic heavy ion collider RHIC. Theorists write of our ever better understanding of the Standard Model and of what might lie beyond. Risky as it is to highlight only a couple of exciting subjects, it is merely meantto whet the appetite for further reading.

No evidence of direct CP violation in the B[sup +] --> K[sup 0][pi][sup +] mode is observed. The B[sup 0] --> K[sup 0][bar K][sup 0] measurement constitutes the first observation of this decay channel: the probability of obtaining the result assuming the null-signal hypothesis is 3.4 x 10[sup -6]. The authors have also searched for the B[sup +] --> [bar K][sup 0]K[sup +] decay and set an upper limit on its branching fraction at 2.35 x 10[sup -6] at the 90% C.L. The branching-fraction measurements reported here are consistent with previous measurements of the same quantities, but are extracted from a data sample larger by a factor of 2.6.

One of the most mysterious phenomena in particle physics that remains unresolved for a long time is the CP violation which is directly related to matter-antimatter asymmetry. Until recently, the CP violation was seen only in K\bar K system and it was expected to be significantly large in B\bar B system. In the summer of 2001 the presence of CP violation in the B meson system was established by the Belle collaboration (and simultaneously by the BaBar collaboration) through the measurement of time dependent asymmetry in the decay of B0 (B0 ) J/ Ks. This work lead to the Nobel Prize for Cabibbo, Kobayashi and Maskawa in 2008."
