Book excerpt: Flavor oscillations of neutral B mesons have been studied in ee− annihilation data collected with the BABAR detector at center-of-mass energies near the [Upsilon](4S) resonance. The data sample used for this purpose consists of events in which one B° meson is reconstructed in a hadronic decay mode, while the flavor of the recoiling B° is determined with a tagging algorithm that exploits the correlation between the flavor of the heavy quark and the charges of its decay products. From the time development of the observed mixed and unmixed final states we determine the B°-{bar B}° oscillation frequency [Delta]m{sub d} to be 0.516 ± 0.016(stat) ± 0.010(syst) ps−1.

Book excerpt: Flavor oscillations of neutral B mesons have been studied with e+e- annihilation data collected at center of mass energies near the [gamma](4S) at the PEP-II asymmetric collider with the BABAR detector. One B0 is fully reconstructed in a hadronic decay to a flavor eigenstate. The flavor of the other B in the event is determined using an inclusive tagging algorithm which exploits the correlations between the flavor of the b quark and the charges of its decay products. By fitting the decay-time distribution of the observed mixed and unmixed final states, the oscillation frequency, [Delta]md, is determined to be 0.516 +/- 0.016 (stat.) +/- 0.010 (syst.) ps-l.

Download or read book Measurement of the B0(s) - Anti-B0(s) Oscillation Frequency written by and published by . This book was released on 2006 with total page 7 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The authors present the first measurement of the B{sub s}°-{bar B}{sub s}° oscillation frequency [Delta]m{sub s}. They use 1 fb−1 of data from p{bar p} collisions at √s = 1.96 TeV collected with the CDF II detector at the Fermilab Tevatron. The sample contains signals of 3600 fully reconstructed hadronic B{sub s} decays and 37,000 partially reconstructed semileptonic B{sub s} decays. They measure the probability as a function of proper decay time that the B{sub s} decays with the same, or opposite, flavor as the flavor at production and they find a signal consistent with B{sub s}°-{bar B}{sub s}° oscillations. The probability that random fluctuations could produce a comparable signal is 0.2%. Under the hypothesis that the signal is due to B{sub s}°-{bar B}{sub s}° oscillations, they measure [Delta]m{sub s} = 17.31{sub -0.18}{sup +0.33}(stat.) ± 0.07(syst.) ps−1 and determine.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The B[sup 0]-[bar B][sup 0] oscillation frequency has been measured with a sample of 23 million B[bar B] pairs collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II asymmetric B Factory at SLAC. In this sample, we select events in which both B mesons decay semileptonically and use the charge of the leptons to identify the flavor of each B meson. A simultaneous fit to the decay time difference distributions for opposite- and same-sign dilepton events gives[Delta]m[sub d]= 0.493[+-] 0.012 (stat)[+-] 0.009 (syst) ps[sup -1].

Download or read book Observation of B0(s) - Anti-B0(s) Oscillations written by and published by . This book was released on 2006 with total page 9 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The authors report the observation of B{sub s}°-{bar B}{sub s}° oscillations from a time-dependent measurement of the B{sub s}°-{bar B}{sub s}° oscillation frequency [Delta]m{sub s}. Using a data sample of 1 fb−1 of p{bar p} collisions at √s = 1.96 TeV collected with the CDF II detector at the Fermilab Tevatron, they find signals of 5600 fully reconstructed hadronic B{sub s} decays, 3100 partially reconstructed hadronic B{sub s} decays, and 61,500 partially reconstructed semileptonic B{sub s} decays. They measure the probability as a function of proper decay time that the B{sub s} decays with the same, or opposite, flavor as the flavor at production, and they find a signal for B{sub s}°-{bar B}{sub s}° oscillations. The probability that random fluctuations could produce a comparable signal is 8 x 10−8, which exceeds 5[sigma] significance. They measure [Delta]m{sub s} = 17.77 ± 0.10(stat) ± 0.07(syst) ps−1 and extract.

Book Synopsis The Search for Rare Non-hadronic B-meson Decays with Final-state Neutrinos Using the BaBar Detector by : Dana Lindemann
Download or read book The Search for Rare Non-hadronic B-meson Decays with Final-state Neutrinos Using the BaBar Detector written by Dana Lindemann and published by . This book was released on 2012 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "This thesis presents the searches for two rare B meson decays: the radiative leptonic decay B+ -> l+ nu gamma (l = e, mu) and the flavor-changing neutral current B -> K(*) nu nubar. These searches use the full dataset collected by the BaBar experiment, which corresponds to almost 500 million BB pairs. After fully reconstructing the hadronic decay of one of the B mesons in Upsilon(4S) -> BB decays, evidence of B+ -> l+ nu gamma or B -> K(*) nu nubar is looked for in the rest of the event. No significant evidence of either signal decay is observed. Model-independent branching-fraction upper limits are set at BR(B ->e nu gamma)17 x10 {-6}, BR(B -mu nu gamma)24 x10 {-6}, and BR(B -l nu gamma)15.6 x10 {-6}, all at the 90% confidence level. These are currently the most stringent published upper limits for B+ - l+ nu gamma. In addition, branching-fraction upper limits are set at BR(B -> K+ nu nubar)3.7 x10 {-5}, BR(B - K0 nu nubar)8.0 x10 {-5}, BR(B - K*+ nu nubar)11.5 x10 {-5}, and BR(B - K*0 nu nubar)9.2 x10 {-5}, all at the 90% confidence level. For additional sensitivity to New Physics contributions, partial B - K(*) nu nubar branching-fraction upper limits are also determined over the full kinematic range." --

Download or read book Measurements of Moments of the Hadronic Mass Distribution in Semileptonic B Decays written by and published by . This book was released on 2004 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We report a measurement of the first four moments of the hadronic mass distribution in [bar B] [yields] X[sub c][ell][sup -] [bar [nu]] decays. The measurements are based on 89 million [Upsilon](4S) [yields] B[bar B] events where the hadronic decay of one of the B mesons is fully reconstructed and a charged lepton from the decay of the other B meson is identified. The moments are presented for minimum lepton momenta ranging from 0.9 to 1.6 GeV in the B rest frame. It is expected that such measurements will lead to improved determinations of V[sub cb] and V[sub ub].
Book Synopsis Rare Hadronic B Decays by : Lars Hofer
Download or read book Rare Hadronic B Decays written by Lars Hofer and published by Sudwestdeutscher Verlag Fur Hochschulschriften AG. This book was released on 2011-04 with total page 148 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The study of rare hadronic B decays at LHCb and at the planned Super-B factories is a valueable tool in the search for new physics. The variety of hadronic decay channels allows for over-constraining measurements of flavour-changing neutral currents. The author discusses several aspects of new physics in rare hadronic B decays. In the first part of the book, the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM) with Minimal Flavor Violation is analysed. In this model, large effects can occur in rare B decays due to tan(beta)-enhanced corrections which have to be resummed to all orders. The known resummation formulae are generalised beyond the decoupling limit and novel effects in couplings involving genuine supersymmetric particles are studied. In the second part of the book, the possibility of probing new physics in electroweak penguins via hadronic B decays is discussed. Such kind of new physics is suggested by puzzling data in B K, pi decays. The author shows that a measurement of the purely isospin-violating decays Bs phi, pi(rho) could shed light on this puzzle. A model-independent study and a study of concrete well-motivated new physics scenarios are performed.
