Book Synopsis Exploring Change.Matura Meets CEFR. by : Aleksandra S.Mrazek
Download or read book Exploring Change.Matura Meets CEFR. written by Aleksandra S.Mrazek and published by Lambert Academic. This book was released on with total page 124 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The study offers insights into the recently changed National Polish Examination (Matura) and sets it against the background of the Common European Framework of References (CEFR) acting as a driving force of, and at the same time the basis for, those changes. Its purpose is to establish the extent to which the CEFR has influenced the construction, marking criteria as well as text and task choices in the Matura. The analysis reveals a vast magnitude of changes made to the examination, both driven by as well as resulting in political and educational shifts in the country. The study sets out to compare two versions of the examination, a decade apart, before scrutinising individual components of the latest version. It takes into account various potential users of the Matura and evaluates it through the lens of diverse parties and their roles in the project. It therefore evaluates this from different perspectives looking more closely not only at the administered components but also at the marking criteria and their adherence to the CEFR. The study is supported by nine research participants’ writing samples.

Book Synopsis Matura: Six Plays by : Mustapha Matura
Download or read book Matura: Six Plays written by Mustapha Matura and published by Methuen Drama. This book was released on 1992-01-27 with total page 392 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A collection by a leading playwright of the '70s and '80s As Time Goes By, Matura's first play is a satirical comedy of manners set among first-generation immigrants and won the George Devine and John Whiting awards. Nice (1973) is a deeply ironic monologue by a recent immigrant commenting on his experience of the hypocrisy of British officialdom; Play Mas (1974) recreates the impact of the heady political momentum generated by the People's National Movement in Trinidad in the early fifties and won the Evening Standard Most Promising Playwright Award. Independence (1979) is set in Trinidad in the pool bar of the Grand Hotel and charts that country's troubled move towards self-governance "Matura's fascinating play is a searching and moving examination of a political problem" (Nicholas de Jongh, Guardian); Welcome Home Jacko (1979) is a "very funny exposé of Rasta righteousness and absurdity with superbly animated argument. Touching, serious and funny" (Michael Coveney, Financial Times); Meetings, set in independent Trinidad (1982) is "a sardonic social satire which gradually grows darker and darker until it becomes a nightmare vision, something close to an apoclypse. The journey is as nimble as it is comic. Mr Matura is a gifted playwright." (Mel Gussow, New York Times)."What makes Mustapha Matura our finest dramatist of West Indian origin? A wry humour, warmth of feeling, a knack of observing human oddity and for embodying it in quirky, unpredictable dialogue, and the fundamental seriousness with which he writes of people who, like himself, have in some sesne become severed from their roots. He ranges from the usefully mischievous to the wickedly funny." (Benedict Nightingale, The Times)
Book Synopsis Freud and the History of Psychoanalysis by : Toby Gelfand
Download or read book Freud and the History of Psychoanalysis written by Toby Gelfand and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-05-13 with total page 409 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The recent upsurge of fresh historical research concerning the early years of psychoanalysis has left many professional readers struggling to keep abreast of the latest findings and more than a little perplexed as to what it all adds up to. Freud and the History of Psychoanalysis addresses this state of affairs by providing in a single volume original essays by fourteen leading historians of psychoanalysis and philosophers of science; it is the most impressive collection of contemporary Freud scholarship yet to appear in print. The contributions span virtually the entirety of Freud's career, from his coming of professional age in Charcot's Paris to his clandestine rendesvous in the Harz Mountains with members of "The Committee" more than 30 years later. The collection also encompasses a host of conceptual issues, ranging from Freud's theory of dream formation to the impact of his conflicting masculine and feminine identifications on his attitude toward treatment. Beyond providing an invaluable overview of Freud's life and times, the volume will challenge readers to deeper reflection on a host of critical episodes and issues that have shaped the special character of the psychoanalytic endeavor. Indispensable as a reference work, Freud and the History of Psychoanalysis constitutes a rewarding and accesible introduction to rigorous historical research. It will be prozed by all who care deeply about the past and future of psychoanalytic theory.
Book Synopsis Reimagining Utopias by : Iveta Silova
Download or read book Reimagining Utopias written by Iveta Silova and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-07-13 with total page 319 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Reimaginig Utopias explores the shifting social imaginaries of post-socialist transformations to understand what happens when the new and old utopias of post-socialism confront the new and old utopias of social science. This peer-reviewed volume addresses the theoretical, methodological, and ethical dilemmas encountered by researchers in the social sciences as they plan and conduct education research in post-socialist settings, as well as disseminate their research findings. Through an interdisciplinary inquiry that spans the fields of education, political science, sociology, anthropology, and history, the book explores three broad questions: How can we (re)imagine research to articulate new theoretical insights about post-socialist education transformations in the context of globalization? How can we (re)imagine methods to pursue alternative ways of producing knowledge? And how can we navigate various ethical dilemmas in light of academic expectations and fieldwork realities? Drawing on case studies, conceptual and theoretical essays, autoethnographic accounts, as well as synthetic introductory and conclusion chapters by the editors, this book advances an important conversation about these complicated questions in geopolitical settings ranging from post-socialist Africa to Eastern Europe and Central Asia. The contributors not only expose the limits of Western conceptual frameworks and research methods for understanding post-socialist transformations, but also engage creatively in addressing the persisting problems of knowledge hierarchies created by abstract universals, epistemic difference, and geographical distance inherent in comparative and international education research. This book challenges the readers to question the existing education narratives and rethink taken-for-granted beliefs, theoretical paradigms, and methodological frameworks in order to reimagine the world in more complex and pluriversal ways.

Download or read book Contemporary Second Language Assessment written by Jayanti Veronique Banerjee and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2016-06-30 with total page 314 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Includes chapters on key aspects of second language assessment such as test construct, diagnosis, exam design, and the growing range of public policy, social and ethical issues. Each of the contributors is an expert in their area; some are established names while others are talented newcomers to the field. The chapters present new research or perspectives on traditional concerns such as test quality; fairness and bias; the testing of different language skills; the needs of different groups of examinees, including English language learners who need to take content tests in English; and the use of language assessments for gate-keeping purposes. The volume demonstrates how language assessment is informed by and engages with neighbouring areas of applied linguistics such as technology and language corpora. The book represents the best of current practice in second language assessment and, as a one volume reference, will be invaluable to students and researchers looking for material that extends their understanding of the field.
