Thanks to its unique thumb-tab indexing feature, answers are easy to find based upon the type of problem they solve. The Handbook covers important formulas, functions, relations, and methods from algebra, trigonometric and exponential functions, combinatorics, probability, matrix theory, calculus and vector calculus, both ordinary and partial differential equations, Fourier series, orthogonal polynomials, and Laplace transforms. Based on Gradshteyn and Ryzhik's Table of Integrals, Series, and Products, Fifth Edition (edited by Jeffrey), but far more accessible and written with particular attention to the needs of students and practicing scientists and engineers, this book is an essential resource. Affordable and authoritative, it is the first place to look for help and a rewarding place to browse. Special thumb-tab index throughout the book for ease of use Answers are keyed to the type of problem they solve Formulas are provided for problems across the entire spectrum of Mathematics All equations are sent from a computer-checked source code Companion to Gradshteyn: Table of Integrals, Series, and Products, Fifth Edition The following features make the Handbook a Better Value than its Competition: Less expensive More comprehensive Equations are computer-validated with Scientific WorkPlace(tm) and Mathematica(r) Superior quality from one of the most respected names in scientific and technical publishing Offers unique thumb-tab indexing throughout the book which makes finding answers quick and easy

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Handbook of Mathematical Formulas presents a compilation of formulas to provide the necessary educational aid. This book covers the whole field from the basic rules of arithmetic, via analytic geometry and infinitesimal calculus through to Fourier's series and the basics of probability calculus. Organized into 12 chapters, this book begins with an overview of the fundamental notions of set theory. This text then explains linear expression wherein the variables are only multiplied by constants and added to constants or expressions of the same kind. Other chapters consider a variety of topics, including matrices, statistics, linear optimization, Boolean algebra, and Laplace's transforms. This book discusses as well the various systems of coordinates in analytical geometry. The final chapter deals with algebra of logic and its development into a two-value Boolean algebra as switching algebra. This book is intended to be suitable for students of technical schools, colleges, and universities.

Book excerpt: The Architect's Handbook of Formulas, Tables, and Mathematical Calculations compliles a vast range of practical, concise formulas, tables, and calculation methods useful to improve the design process. It is a problem-solving and decision-making tool for the practicing architect and interior designer. The material included in this book gives you the answer to the many types of problems you face every day - those dealing with overall site and space planning, sizes of building components, material selection, finishes, construction assemblies, and building systems. In addition, you will find useful "rules of thumb" and basic reference data. The organization of this Handbook is based on how architects actually work through a project and make decisions - from establishing early programming needs, to making preliminary design and building system choices, to evaluating specific material selctions. The tables and calculation methods selected are practical, proven reference information helpful for all phases of a job. To make the tables and formulas even more useful, steph-by-step procedures for using them and easy-to-follow examples are included where appropriate.

Book excerpt: Mathematical Formulas For Industrial and Mechanical Engineering serves the needs of students and teachers as well as professional workers in engineering who use mathematics. The contents and size make it especially convenient and portable. The widespread availability and low price of scientific calculators have greatly reduced the need for many numerical tables that make most handbooks bulky. However, most calculators do not give integrals, derivatives, series and other mathematical formulas and figures that are often needed. Accordingly, this book contains that information in an easy way to access in addition to illustrative examples that make formulas clearer. Students and professionals alike will find this book a valuable supplement to standard textbooks, a source for review, and a handy reference for many years. Covers mathematics formulas needed for Industrial and Mechanical Engineering Quick and easy to use reference and study Includes practical examples and figures to help quickly understand concepts

Book excerpt: Users of statistics in their professional lives and statistics students will welcome this concise, easy-to-use reference for basic statistics and probability. It contains all of the standardized statistical tables and formulas typically needed plus material on basic statistics topics, such as probability theory and distributions, regression, analysis of variance, nonparametric statistics, and statistical quality control. For each type of distribution the authors supply: ? definitions ? tables ? relationships with other distributions, including limiting forms ? statistical parameters, such as variance and generating functions ? a list of common problems involving the distribution Standard Probability and Statistics: Tables and Formulae also includes discussion of common statistical problems and supplies examples that show readers how to use the tables and formulae to get the solutions they need. With this handy reference, the focus can shift from rote learning and memorization to the concepts needed to use statistics efficiently and effectively.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The oldest known mathematical table was found in the ancient Sumerian city of Shuruppag in southern Iraq. Since then, tables have been an important feature of mathematical activity; table making and printed tabular matter are important precursors to modern computing and information processing. This book contains a series of articles summarising the technical, institutional and intellectual history of mathematical tables from earliest times until the late twentieth century. It covers mathematical tables (the most important computing aid for several hundred years until the 1960s), data tables (eg. Census tables), professional tables (eg. insurance tables), and spreadsheets - the most recent tabular innovation. The book is presented in a scholarly yet accessible way, making appropriate use of text boxes and illustrations. Each chapter has a frontispiece featuring a table along with a small illustration of the source where the table was first displayed. Most chapters have sidebars telling a short "story" or history relating to the chapter. The aim of this edited volume is to capture the history of tables through eleven chapters written by subject specialists. The contributors describe the various information processing techniques and artefacts whose unifying concept is "the mathematical table".

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: TO THE FIRST RUSSIAN EDITION It was a very difficult task to write a guide-book of a small size designed to contain the fundamental knowledge of mathema tics which is most necessary to engineers and students of higher technical schools. In our tendency to the compactness and brevity of the exposition, we attempted, however, to produce a guide-book which would be easy to understand, convenient to use and as accurate as possible (as much as it is required in engineering). It should be pointed out that this book is neither a handbook nor a compendium, but a guide-book. Therefore it is not written as systematically as a handbook should be written. Hence the reader should not be surprised to find, for example, I'HOpital's rule in the section devoted to computation of limits which is a part of the chapter "Introduction to the analysis" placed before the concept of the derivative, or information about the Gamma function in the chapter "Algebra"-just after the concept of the factorial. There are many such "imperfections" in the book. Thus a reader who wants to acquire certain information is advised to use not only the table of contents but also the alpha betical index inserted at the end of the book. If a problem mentioned in the text is explained in detail in another place of the book, then the corresponding page is indicated in a footnote.
