Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "General-equilibrium" refers to an analytical approach which looks at the economy as a complete system of inter-dependent components (industries, households, investors, governments, importers and exporters). "Applied" means that the primary interest is in systems that can be used to provide quantitative analysis of economic policy problems in particular countries. Reflecting the authors' belief in the models as vehicles for practical policy analysis, a considerable amount of material on data and solution techniques as well as on theoretical structures has been included. The sequence of chapters follows what is seen as the historical development of the subject. The book is directed at graduate students and professional economists who may have an interest in constructing or applying general equilibrium models. The exercises and readings in the book provide a comprehensive introduction to applied general equilibrium modeling. To enable the reader to acquire hands-on experience with computer implementations of the models which are described in the book, a companion set of diskettes is available.
Book Synopsis Dynamic General Equilibrium Modeling by : Burkhard Heer
Download or read book Dynamic General Equilibrium Modeling written by Burkhard Heer and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2009-08-12 with total page 720 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Modern business cycle theory and growth theory uses stochastic dynamic general equilibrium models. In order to solve these models, economists need to use many mathematical tools. This book presents various methods in order to compute the dynamics of general equilibrium models. In part I, the representative-agent stochastic growth model is solved with the help of value function iteration, linear and linear quadratic approximation methods, parameterised expectations and projection methods. In order to apply these methods, fundamentals from numerical analysis are reviewed in detail. In particular, the book discusses issues that are often neglected in existing work on computational methods, e.g. how to find a good initial value. In part II, the authors discuss methods in order to solve heterogeneous-agent economies. In such economies, the distribution of the individual state variables is endogenous. This part of the book also serves as an introduction to the modern theory of distribution economics. Applications include the dynamics of the income distribution over the business cycle or the overlapping-generations model. In an accompanying home page to this book, computer codes to all applications can be downloaded.

This book was released on 2012-01-05 with total page 126 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This advanced textbook aims at providing a simple but fully operational introduction to applied general equilibrium. General equilibrium is the backbone of modern economic analysis and as such generation after generation of economics students are introduced to it. As an analytical tool in economics, general equilibrium provides one of the most complete views of an economy since it incorporates all economic agents (households, firms, government, foreign sector) in an integrated way that is compatible with microtheory and microdata. The integration of theory and data handling is required for successful modeling but it requires a double ability that is not found in standard books. With this book we aim at filling the gap and provide advanced students with the required tools, from the building of consistent and applicable general equilibrium models to the interpretation of the results that ensue from the adoption of policies. The topics include: model design, model development, computer code examples, calibration and data adjustments, practical policy examples.

Download or read book The New Generation of Computable General Equilibrium Models written by Federico Perali and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-05-02 with total page 343 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book covers some important topics in the construction of computable general equilibrium (CGE) models and examines use of these models for the analysis of economic policies, their properties, and their implications. Readers will find explanation and discussion of the theoretical structure and practical application of several model typologies, including dynamic, stochastic, micro-macro, and simulation models, as well as different closure rules and policy experiments. The presentation of applications to various country and problem-specific case studies serves to provide an informed and clearly articulated summary of the state of the art and the most important methodological advancements in the field of policy modeling within the framework of general equilibrium analysis. The book is an outcome of a recent workshop of the Italian Development Economists Association attended by a group of leading practitioners involved in the generation of CGE models and research on modeling the economy and policy making. It will be of interest to researchers, professional economists, graduate students, and knowledgeable policy makers.
Book Synopsis General Equilibrium Theory by : Ross M. Starr
Download or read book General Equilibrium Theory written by Ross M. Starr and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2011-04-25 with total page 379 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: General Equilibrium Theory: An Introduction presents the mathematical economic theory of price determination and resource allocation from elementary to advanced levels, suitable for advanced undergraduates and graduate students of economics. Book Synopsis General Equilibrium Analysis by : Monique Florenzano
Download or read book General Equilibrium Analysis written by Monique Florenzano and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-09 with total page 187 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: General Equilibrium Analysis is a systematic exposition of the Walrasian model of economic equilibrium with a finite number of agents, as formalized by Arrow, Debreu and McKenzie at the beginning of the fifties and since then extensively used, worked and studied. Existence and optimality of general equilibrium are developed repeatedly under different sets of hypothesis which define some general settings and delineate different approaches to the general equilibrium existence problem. The final chapter is devoted to the extension of the general equilibrium model to economies defined on an infinite dimensional commodity space. The objective of General Equilibrium Analysis is to give to each problem in each framework the most general solution, at least for the present state of art. The intended readers are graduate students, specialists and researchers in economics, especially in mathematical economics. The book is appropriate as a class text, or for self-study.
Book Synopsis Designing Public Policies by : Francisco J. André
Download or read book Designing Public Policies written by Francisco J. André and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2010-09-14 with total page 155 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This monograph provides a novel approach to the evaluation of economic policy by combining two different analytical strategies. On the one hand, the computable general equilibrium (CGE) analysis, a standard tool mostly used to quantify the impact of economic measures or changes in the structural data of the economy. On the other hand, the multiple criteria decision-making (MCDM) approach, an op- misation technique that deals with problems with more than one objective. Ty- cally, CGE is well suited for the analysis of the interactions of multiple agents from the point of view of a planner single objective. Combining this technique with the MCDM approach allows developing models in which we ?nd many interacting agents and a decision maker with several objectives. The contribution of this work is partly methodological and partly applied. It provides a framework for the analysis of this type of problems, as well as a series of applications in which the strength of the approach is made clear. The consideration of environmental problems, as a speci?c ?eld in which this technique of analysis can be used, is particularly well chosen. The environmental concern keeps growing steadily and has already become an issue in most of the standard economic decisions. It is therefore extremely important to ?nd systematic ways to introduce such a concern in the models with which we evaluate the impact of policy measures.
Book Synopsis General Equilibrium, Growth, and Trade by : Jerry R. Green
Download or read book General Equilibrium, Growth, and Trade written by Jerry R. Green and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2014-05-10 with total page 422 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: General Equilibrium, Growth, and Trade: Essays in Honor of Lionel McKenzie provides information pertinent to the three main areas of Professor McKenzie's scientific research, namely, international trade, economic growth, and general equilibrium theory. This book highlights the main aspects of McKenzie's work. Organized into three parts encompassing 21 chapters, this book begins with an overview of the regularizing effects of aggregation over nonregular microrelations. This text then examines the theory of a multiperiod monopolist incurring nonseparable labor adjustment costs, which is developed when investment is irreversible. Other chapters consider the behavior of a price-maker in a competitive market as a preliminary step to a more complete analysis of pure competition. This book discusses as well the effects of uncertainty on optimal decisions, which constitutes an increasingly essential area of economic research. The final chapter deals with the general equilibrium macroeconomic model. This book is a valuable resource for economists and economic theorists.

Book Synopsis Introduction to Computable General Equilibrium Models by : Mary E. Burfisher
Download or read book Introduction to Computable General Equilibrium Models written by Mary E. Burfisher and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2017-02-01 with total page 443 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides an accessible, undergraduate-level introduction to computable general equilibrium (CGE) models, a class of model that has come to play an important role in government policy decisions. The book uses a graphical approach to explain the economic theory that underlies a CGE model, and provides results from simple, small-scale CGE models to illustrate the links between theory and model outcomes. The book includes eleven guided, hands-on exercises that introduce modeling techniques that are applied to real-world economic problems. Students will learn how to integrate their separate fields of economic study into a comprehensive, general equilibrium perspective as they develop their skills as producers or consumers of CGE-based analysis.
Book Synopsis Foundations Of The Theory Of General Equilibrium (Second Edition) by : Yves Balasko
Download or read book Foundations Of The Theory Of General Equilibrium (Second Edition) written by Yves Balasko and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2016-05-11 with total page 281 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The economic theory of general equilibrium underpins the most important models used in economic theory in general and in its more specialized areas such as macroeconomics, international trade, environmental economics, growth theory, and developmental economics. In Foundations of the Theory of General Equilibrium, leading academic scholar, Yves Balasko offers a good introduction to the economic theory of general equilibrium and makes use of various mathematical tools as intuitive and easy as possible. The second half of the book addresses properties of the general equilibrium model that are still at the frontier of current research. These properties deal with the characterization of economies with a unique equilibrium and, more generally, with the relationships between the number of equilibria and the fundamentals of an economy.
