Book Synopsis Still Time to Care by : Greg Johnson
Download or read book Still Time to Care written by Greg Johnson and published by Zondervan. This book was released on 2021-12-07 with total page 304 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: At the start of the gay rights movement in 1969, evangelicalism's leading voices cast a vision for gay people who turn to Jesus. It was C.S. Lewis, Billy Graham, Francis Schaeffer and John Stott who were among the most respected leaders within theologically orthodox Protestantism. We see with them a positive pastoral approach toward gay people, an approach that viewed homosexuality as a fallen condition experienced by some Christians who needed care more than cure. With the birth and rise of the ex-gay movement, the focus shifted from care to cure. As a result, there are an estimated 700,000 people alive today who underwent conversion therapy in the United States alone. Many of these patients were treated by faith-based, testimony-driven parachurch ministries centered on the ex-gay script. Despite the best of intentions, the movement ended with very troubling results. Yet the ex-gay movement died not because it had the wrong sex ethic. It died because it was founded on a practice that diminished the beauty of the gospel. Yet even after the closure of the ex-gay umbrella organization Exodus International in 2013, the ex-gay script continues to walk about as the undead among us, pressuring people like me to say, "I used to be gay, but I'm not gay anymore. Now I'm just same-sex attracted." For orthodox Christians, the way forward is a path back to where we were forty years ago. It is time again to focus with our Neo-Evangelical fathers on care--not cure--for our non-straight sisters and brothers who are living lives of costly obedience to Jesus. With warmth and humor as well as original research, Still Time to Care will chart the path forward for our churches and ministries in providing care. It will provide guidance for the gay person who hears the gospel and finds themselves smitten by the life-giving call of Jesus. Woven throughout the book will be Richard Lovelace’s 1978 call for a "double repentance" in which gay Christians repent of their homosexual sins and the church repents of its homophobia--putting on display for all the power of the gospel.

Download or read book The Autobiography of Frank Drew Hall written by David B. Hall and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2013-12-12 with total page 275 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Frank Drew Hall (1864-1937) was the son of a Civil War veteran and preacher who grew up in small town Ohio. He learned the printing trade, took up the work of a missionary in the Dakota Territory, and later became Superintendent of the North Dakota Children's Home Society in Fargo - a role that earned him the title "Daddy Hall." In this newly published autobiography, Hall shares from the time of his birth to just before the United States entered World War I, at which time in 1916, he sat down to write his story. Additionally, Frank Hall was a family historian, and his research of genealogical charts and family records are included in the appendices. This wonderfully written biography, compiled with family photos, historical documents, and commentary by his great-great grandson, gives first-hand accounts of a time and place in American history few have the pleasure of reading about.

Download or read book Acting Globally written by Celso Amorim and published by Rowman & Littlefield. This book was released on 2017-01-09 with total page 488 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Between 2003 and 2010, under President Lula, Celso Amorim was at the forefront of an important period in the history of Brazil’s international relations—one in which the country practiced a newly assertive foreign policy, extending its diplomatic reach to the global stage. This book consists of three narratives: the pursuit of a peaceful, negotiated solution to the Iranian nuclear issue; Brazil’s diplomatic efforts in relation to the Middle East, which included recognizing the State of Palestine; and the country’s leading role in the Doha Round of multilateral trade negotiations. The narratives take the reader on a journey behind the scenes of global politics, combining detailed accounts of international negotiations with candid and insightful descriptions of the countless world leaders Amorim came into close contact with—including, to name but a few, Hillary Clinton, George W. Bush, Barack Obama, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, Tony Blair, Manmohan Singh, Mahmoud Abbas, and Benjamin Netanyahu.
