Asante,to Zami: A New Spelling of My Name, the "biomythography" of Audre Lorde. The works covered range from early colonial era writings through works of the beginning of the 21st century. Most of the essays address a single long work, while others review an author's work in a certain genre, such as short fiction, poetry, essays, or speeches. Each entry begins with information on title, subtitle, author's name and birth/death dates, type of work, date of first publication and production. For fiction, information is also presented on type of plot, setting, and principal characters. The essays then describe events or contents of the work and address broad themes and meanings connected to the work. Essays on fiction works include discussion of main character or characters, while nonfiction work includes sections on "form and content" and "analysis." All essays end with discussion of critical context. Also included with the essays are annotated bibliographies on secondary sources. The final volume includes indexes organized by type of work, title, and authors. Examples of works covered, in addition to the two already mentioned, include Ain't I a Woman by bell hooks, The Autobiography of Malcolm X, Babel-17 by Samuel R. Delany, The Black Muslims in America by C. Eric Lincoln; The Content of Our Character by Shelby Steele, Kindred by Octavia E. Dante's masterplot is the teleological trajectory by which the poet subordinates the past to the authority of a new experience. The book analyses the masterplot's workings in Dante's text and its role in the interpretation of the poem, and it documents its overwhelming success in influencing readings of the Commedia over the centuries. The volume then explores three competing narrative models that resist and counter its monopoly which are enacted by paradoxes, alternative endings and parallel lives, and the future. By focusing on these non-linear modes of storytelling and testing the limits of linear narration, the book questions critical paradigms in the scholarship of the Commedia that favour a single normative master truth, exposes their problematic authoritarian implications, and highlights the manifold poetic, theological, and ethical tensions that are often neglected due to the masterplot's influence. The new picture of a vulnerable author and open-ended text that emerges from this study thus doubles as a metacritical reflection on the state of the field. A key change has been a shift to very small units, exemplified by Twitter and its strict 280-character limit on individual posts. Consequently, highly fragmented communication has become the norm in many contexts. Fragmented Narrative sets out to explore the production and reception of fragmentary stories, analysing the Twitter-based narrative practices of Donald Trump, the Spanish political movement Podemos, and Egyptian activists writing in the context of the 2013 military intervention in Egypt. Sadler draws on narrative theory and hermeneutics to argue that narrative remains a vital means for understanding, allowing fragmentary content to be grasped together as part of significant wholes. Using Heideggerian ontology, he proposes that our capacity to do this is grounded in the centrality of narrative to human existence itself. The book strives to provide a new way of thinking about the interpretation of fragmentary information, applicable both to social media and beyond.
