This book was released on 1991 with total page 581 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fourteen chapters discuss regional stratigraphy by time intervals from Precambrian to Quaternary, while other chapters describe the geography, geomorphology, tectonics, geophysical characteristics, and resources of the region. A summary chapter includes geologic maps, structural cross-sections, a geotectonic correlation chart, a gravity map, and a location map for exploration wells in the Arctic Islands and northern Greenland. A wealth of additional information is contained on the nine accompanying plates.
Book Synopsis Paleoecology, Biostratigraphy, Paleoceanography and Taxonomy of Agglutinated Foraminifera by : Christoph Hemleben
Download or read book Paleoecology, Biostratigraphy, Paleoceanography and Taxonomy of Agglutinated Foraminifera written by Christoph Hemleben and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 1002 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Agglutinated foraminifera are among the most widely distributed and abundant groups of marine meiofauna in some environments (e. g. marshes, deep-sea). They are tolerant of environmental extremes, tending to live where the evolutionarily more advanced calcareous foraminifera cannot survive. However, largely because of historical reasons, the amount of scientific effort invested in this group has been small in comparison to studies of other marine organisms. The NATO Advanced Studies Institute conference on the paleoecology, biostratigraphy, paleoceanography and taxonomy of agglutinated foraminifera in TUbingen September 17-29, 1989, was a direct outgrowth of two previous workshops on agglutinated foraminifers held in Amsterdam in September 1981 (IW AF I) and in Vienna in June 1986 (IW AF 11). As such, the TUbingen conference constitutes the Third International Workshop on Agglutinated Foraminifera (IW AF III) and was organised to provide a platform for synthesizing the current state of knowledge on this group of organisms, and to strengthen interactions between basic research and applied micropaleontology. One of the main underlying themes of the conferen:e was to identify topics in the paleoecology, biostratigraphy, paleoceanography and taxonomy of agglutinated foraminifera which are in urgent need of further research. About 80 scientists and students from 5 continents participated in the TUbingen conference, which is one measure of the growth in interest in agglutinated foraminifers over the past decade. During four days of technical sessions, scientific results were communicated in the form of 34 oral presentations and 15 poster displays.
Book Synopsis Deglacial History and Relative Sea-level Changes, Northern New England and Adjacent Canada by : Thomas K. Weddle
Download or read book Deglacial History and Relative Sea-level Changes, Northern New England and Adjacent Canada written by Thomas K. Weddle and published by Geological Society of America. This book was released on 2000 with total page 307 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The 13 papers in this collection examine the coastal regions, the Gulf of Maine, and the continental shelf off of Atlantic Canada in context with new radiocarbon age analyses, providing a detailed history of climate changes, marine transgression, emergence, and relative sea- level history. Specific topics include deglaciation of the Gulf of Maine, Late Quaternary morphogenesis of a marine-limit delta plain in southwest Maine, morainal banks and the deglaciation of coastal Maine, and glacial dynamics, deglaciation, and marine invasion in southern Quebec. Material originated at a March 1998 symposium held in Maine at the 33rd Annual Meeting of the Northeastern Section of the Geological Society of America. Weddle is affiliated with the Maine Geological Survey. Retelle teaches geology at Bates College. Annotation copyrighted by Book News Inc., Portland, OR.

Book Synopsis Geology and Seismic Stratigraphy of the Antarctic Margin by : Alan K. Cooper
Download or read book Geology and Seismic Stratigraphy of the Antarctic Margin written by Alan K. Cooper and published by American Geophysical Union. This book was released on 1997-01-23 with total page 220 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Published by the American Geophysical Union as part of the Antarctic Research Series, Volume 71. The Antarctic Ice Sheet has greatly affected global climate, sea level, ocean circulation, and southern hemisphere biota during Cenozoic times. Much of our understanding of the evolution of the ice sheet has been inferred from isotopic studies on distant deep-ocean sediments, because few Cenozoic rocks are exposed on the Antarctic continent. Yet, large differences occur between past ice volumes inferred from isotopic studies and those inferred from low-latitude sea-level variation. The massive quantities of glacially transported terrigenous sediments that lie beneath the Antarctic continental margin provide an additional, more direct record of the inferred ice sheet fluctuations. Volume 68 addresses the history of ice sheet fluctuations as recorded by geological and geophysical investigations of selected areas of the Antarctic continental margin. As described below, the volume gives data and results from on-going research by a major multinational project directed toward better understanding the impact of Antarctic Ice Sheet fluctuations on global sea levels and climates.
Book Synopsis Late Glacial and Postglacial Environmental Changes by : Ireneo Peter Martini
Download or read book Late Glacial and Postglacial Environmental Changes written by Ireneo Peter Martini and published by Oxford University Press, USA. This book was released on 1997 with total page 378 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book of contributed papers reconstructs events following the major Paleozoic glaciation, using as analog events during the last 18,000 years. The detailed analysis of present environments aids in understanding what triggered the ancient deglaciations; conversely, the study of the ancient geological record helps to identify factors that influence global environmental change. The syntheses and analyses of Quaternary and older glacial products and events foster a better understanding of those periods in which rapid climatic and environmental changes occurred, and they constitute a ready source of information for analyzing other ancient geological records or constructing models for possible future changes.
