Procuramos construir um livro-texto, com objetivos didáticos, que pretende funcionar como um manual de ensino de Saúde Coletiva, na forma apontada por Thomas Khun, um livro geral que aponte a ciência acumulada e que forneça uma perspectiva comum a um grupo diversificado de estudantes e profissionais da área. Este livro-texto é voltado especialmente para a graduação, com textos introdutórios e detalhados, com a profundidade dada pelos especialistas de cada subárea. Apesar deste objetivo principal, este livro poderá ser utilizado também como base de ensino na pós-graduação, pois a bibliografia é extensa e proporciona um aprofundamento aos professores e alunos sobre cada tema.
