Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The second edition of this book has been extensively revised and updated. There has been a lot of scientific advances in the radiology, pathology and risk assessment of benign breast lesions since the publication of the first edition. The first edition concentrated on screen-detected lesions, which has been rectified. New symptomatic and screen-detected lesions are discussed in the second edition and include: mastitis and breast abscess, idiopathic granulomatous mastitis, diabetic mastopathy, phyllodes tumour, gynaecomastia and pseudoangiomatous stromal hyperplasia. The chapters on columnar cell lesions and mucocele-like lesions have been extensively updated. Where applicable, genetic analysis of the benign lesions which in breast cancer is becoming part of personalised medicine has been included. The book includes detailed analysis of the main models such as the Gail Model used to assess the subsequent risk of breast cancer in individuals. The current trend in the management of all cancers is preventative. Screening mammography detects early curable cancers as well as indeterminate lesions. These indeterminate mammographic lesions are invariably pathologically benign. The author collated important benign lesions and based on peer-reviewed publications documented the relative risk of subsequent cancer to allow the patient and the clinician to institute preventative measures where possible. This book therefore will be an essential part of multidisciplinary management of patients with symptomatic and screen-detected benign breast lesions.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 2002, Lippincott published the Manual of Breast Diseases, edited by Professor Ismail Jatoi. The current book, Management of Breast Diseases, is an adaptation of that manual, with Professor Manfred Kaufmann of the Goethe-University of Frankfurt serving as co-editor. Most of the chapters from the original manual have been either extensively revised or discarded, and several new chapters added. This text contains more material than the original manual, but it is still intended as a basic guide for the wide spectrum of clinicians (surgeons, gynecologists, oncologists, radiation onco- gists, internists, general practitioners) who treat breast diseases, both benign and malignant. To compile this text, we assembled experts from throughout the world. Thus, this text provides not only a broad overview of breast diseases, but also highlights diff- ent perspectives from different parts of the world. Yet, it is worth noting that the management of breast cancer is now largely predicated on evidence-based medicine. Several large, randomized prospective trials have demonstrated the ef? cacy of breast cancer screening and chemoprevention. Other large trials have addressed the impact of systemic therapy, radiotherapy, and variations in local therapy on breast cancer mortality. Many of these landmark trials are discussed in this text, and they clearly have had a bene? cial effect. Indeed, since about 1990, breast cancer mortality rates have declined substantially in most industrialized countries, and this trend is expected to continue in the years ahead.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Widespread use of mammography has resulted in detection of small cancers with favorable prognosis, as well as an array of indeterminate lesions, the majority of which turn out to be histologically benign. This book gives a detailed account of the radiology and pathology of screening-detected lesions, with discussion of risk assessment, to assist clinicians in the follow-up of their patients. Related lesions are dealt with in consecutive chapters, giving the reader an opportunity for comparison. The book is well illustrated with radiological and pathological correlation of mostly screening-detected images including mucoecele-like lesions and columnar lesions. Surgeons, radiologists, pathologists and breast care nurses will find the book highly useful for the management of patients with benign or indeterminate breast lesions in a multidisciplinary setting.

This book was released on 2009-01-01 with total page 368 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: By far the majority of women presenting with a breast complaint will be diagnosed as having a benign rather than malignant condition. Despite this, clinical and research interest has always favoured breast cancer, and few publications have attempted to cover benign breast disorders as an independent entity focusing instead on benign breast disease in relation to breast cancer and none provide the complete and pragmatic coverage found in this text.Hughes, Mansel and Webster's Benign Disorders and Diseases of the Breast represents the distillation of over 35 years of clinical experience and research in the Cardiff Clinic and is unique in its depth of coverage of the entire spectrum of benign breast complaints. The third edition of this critically acclaimed book provides practical and detailed management guidelines. Relevant investigations are discussed and clear advice is given for the most effective treatment strategies in each condition, including dealing with treatment failures and recurring problems. The underlying pathology and physiology are also discussed from the clinician's viewpoint to help understand clinical presentations and response to treatment.

Book excerpt: It is challenging enough to be able to make a diagnosis in mammography, but the newer standards of care demand more than just providing a diagnosis. This book is an excellent resource to improve the understanding of breast diseases, recognize and manage problems encountered in breast imaging and clinical management of the breast diseases. With forty four chapters, this volume is divided into six sections on screening of breast cancer, imaging modalities, benign breast disorders, interventional procedures, pathological considerations and breast cancer. Breast Diseases: Imaging and Clinical Management is a crisp volume on clinical and multimodality breast imaging with emphasis on interventional procedures, pathology and the entire spectrum of breast cancers.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This text is intended as a practical guide for physicians and surgeons who treat diseases of the breast, both benign and malignant. Thus, general surgeons, internists, family practitioners, gynecologists, surgical oncologists, radiation oncologists, and medical oncologists will find this book useful. The management of breast diseases requires a multidisciplinary approach, and this textbook therefore includes the views of a wide range of specialists from throughout the world. Today the treatment of breast diseases is largely predicated on the results of randomized prospective trials. The results of many clinical trials are discussed in detail, and readers will find this book to be a useful guide to the evidence-based treatment of breast diseases. The revised edition provides a comprehensive update of the previous version of the book. Specifically, it contains 2 new chapters: “Molecular Classification of Breast Cancer” and “Breast Cancer Molecular Testing for Prognosis and Prediction”. In addition, since publication of the previous edition, the results of numerous adjuvant systemic therapy and neo-adjuvant systemic therapy trials have been published, and this edition provides a comprehensive overview of these trials and discusses how they have changed the management of breast cancer. Similarly, there have been, in the last few years, important new developments in the local therapy of breast cancer. This edition discusses these new developments and particularly recent developments and controversies concerning the management of the axilla in patients with primary breast cancer. New guidelines with respect to radiotherapy are also reviewed and discussed. Finally, all chapters in the book are thoroughly revised and updated to provide readers with current understanding of the biology and treatment of breast cancer.
