Book Synopsis Historic House Museums by : Sherry Butcher-Younghans
Download or read book Historic House Museums written by Sherry Butcher-Younghans and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 1996-02-08 with total page 282 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Historic house museums can be found in nearly every city in the United States and Canada. These are the homes of the earliest settlers, statesmen, frontiersmen, great writers, artists, architects, and industrial magnates. These are the places, carefully saved and preserved, that represent a cultural heritage. Despite their popularity, it is not uncommon to find museums that are in poor repair, their collections neglected and their staffs grossly overworked. Many are run by well-meaning and hard-working volunteers who have little or no professional training. Often they survive on shoestring budgets and are able to present only limited programs. Serving both as a hands-on guide and reference, this book examines these problems, offering practical advice and solutions which can be easily implemented. Its useful "lessons" include governance, where to find help, care of collections, conservation, security, and interpretation--all designed to increase the professionalism of the historic house museum.

She said she had already spent USD 80,000 on the architectural design, and she had not even begun! When she saw my eyes widen at the costs, she said, “What, your houses in your country or anywhere else, are not so large? And the house building costs do not come in thousands and thousands of dollars?” Well, I could tell her that in our country and in other parts of the World, our built houses – especially colonial bungalows, ancestral homes/haciendas – and I have lived in them – were made on land just under 1 acre and even much more, so I was not anyone to talk about 2,600 ft.². Nevertheless, I began to think that a book was needed to tell people all about how for millenniums, people have been living in really tiny spaces, in tiny homes, and they have managed extremely well. So this book is going to tell you all about some traditional ways in which you can build a really nice tiny home. But here you are going to think of a state of mind and a possible situation, where we are in survivalist mode. This tiny home is a shelter, for the family to protect it from the weather, animal attacks, a place to live in, eat, and sleep, and I am going to go back to the history of these houses, down the centuries all over the World. This book is going to give you lots of information on how these houses were built and how can you build these houses yourself, especially when you need to know how to build a shelter for your family.

Book Synopsis Review of management and services of the House of Commons by : Kevin Sir Tebbit
Download or read book Review of management and services of the House of Commons written by Kevin Sir Tebbit and published by The Stationery Office. This book was released on 2007-06-25 with total page 144 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Following on from previous reports published in 1990 and 1999, this publication examines how the services to support the institution of the House of Commons and MPs are governed, managed and delivered. The objective of the report has been to respect the status and character of the House and to preserve the special qualities of the House Service, while seeking to build organisational and executive capacity and to promote effectiveness, accountability and value for money. Amongst the 56 conclusions and recommendations made, the report seeks to highlight the importance of an independent audit facility, including placing the chairmanship of the Audit Committee in the hands of an external Committee member and instituting a rolling programme of NAO value-for-money audits. It also recommends a revamped role for the Office for the Chief Executive, with responsibility for strategic planning; strengthening the position of the Finance and Services Committee to improve scrutiny of spending proposals and to support the governing role of the Commission; a centralised and professional human resources team to develop the House staff as a collective resource and to overcome the inefficiencies of the present personnel structure; and the creation of further joint Departments between the two Houses in the interests of reducing overhead costs and general efficiency.

Book Synopsis Sensor Management in ISR by : Kenneth J. Hintz
Download or read book Sensor Management in ISR written by Kenneth J. Hintz and published by Artech House. This book was released on 2020-02-29 with total page 250 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This innovative resource is the first book that partitions the intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR) sensor management process into partitioned functions that can be studied and optimized independently of each other through defined conceptual interfaces. The book explains the difference between situation information and sensor information and how to compute both. The information-based sensor management (IBSM) approach to real-time orchestrated resource management (ORM) of intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) assets in the physical, cyber, and social domains are detailed. The integrating concept of mission value through use of goal lattice (GL) methodology is explored. Approaches to implementing real-time sensor management (SM) systems by applying advanced information-based approaches that consider contextual situation and optimization of diverse sensor capabilities for information-based objectives are also covered. These methods have applications in physical intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR), as well as in cyber, and social domains. Based on 30 years of research in developing a mission-valued approach to maximizing the transfer of information from real, cyber, and social environments into a mission-valued, probabilistic representation of that environment on which decision makers can formulate actions, this is the only book that addresses real-time management of ISR from a first principles approach (information theory), and how information theory can be applied to the design and development of ISR systems.
