Book Synopsis Daddy-O's Book of Big-Ass Art by : Bob Wade
Download or read book Daddy-O's Book of Big-Ass Art written by Bob Wade and published by Texas A&M University Press. This book was released on 2020-11-17 with total page 226 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Recipient of three National Endowment for the Arts grants and with works exhibited at the prestigious Biennale de Paris, New York’s Whitney Museum, the de Menil Collection in Houston, and other venues, Bob “Daddy-O” Wade started “keeping it weird” in 1961 when he arrived in Austin with his ’51 custom Ford hot rod and his slicked-back hair. Primed to study art at the University of Texas, Wade’s coif and dragster earned him his trademark moniker, and the abstract, welded sculptures he fashioned from automobile bumpers in his frat house basement laid the foundations for the distinctive, larger-than-life art pieces that would eventually make him famous. Daddy-O is the creator of the forty-foot iguana that perched atop the Lone Star Café in New York City, the immense cowboy boots (entered in the Guinness Book of World Records) outside San Antonio’s North Star Mall, and Dinosaur Bob, who graces the roof of the National Center for Children’s Illustrated Literature in Abilene, Texas. He is widely recognized as one of the progenitors of the “Cosmic Cowboy Culture” that emerged in Texas during the 1970s. Daddy-O’s Book of Big-Ass Art features images of more than a hundred of Wade’s most famous pieces, complete with the wild tales that lie behind the art, told in brief essays by both Wade and more than forty noted artists and writers familiar with Wade’s work.

Book Synopsis A Unique Man's Journey Through Life by : Hiram Sloan
Download or read book A Unique Man's Journey Through Life written by Hiram Sloan and published by Page Publishing Inc. This book was released on 2022-11-03 with total page 120 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many times, I have been told that I should write a book about my life because I was different, unique, or profound. I had the highest grades in grade school and high school, and I drove myself to the first grade in the family car at six years old. My mother and father had a relationship that was not harmonious, as did the mothers and fathers of my friends. That set my objective to earn a PhD in relationship psychology. When World War II started, I also wanted to serve my country. A Unique Man's Journey through Life is the story of how I accomplished all that in spite of not having enough money and having medical problems. When I was told that was impossible, I did not listen, and I never had any doubt. I thought if I doubt myself, how could I get anyone else to believe me? I also helped many other people solve their problems to achieve what they wanted. I found the appreciation they had, and their thanks certainly were some of the greatest joys in my life. As my dad would say, "I appreciate their appreciation."
Book Synopsis Out of the Darkness by : Ian O'Connor
Download or read book Out of the Darkness written by Ian O'Connor and published by HarperCollins. This book was released on 2024-08-20 with total page 515 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Instant New York Times Bestseller "A masterwork. ... O'Connor answers every question, deftly and deeply, that we've had about the most controversial person in America's biggest game." —Peter King Four-time New York Times bestselling sport biographer Ian O’Connor pulls back the curtain on four-time NFL MVP Aaron Rodgers, delivering the definitive portrait of the legendary yet mysterious quarterback who has astonished, befuddled, yet always captivated fans of America’s #1 sport. Aaron Rodgers is among the two or three most talented players to ever hold the most important job in American team sports – quarterback. He also stands as the most mysterious and polarizing figure in the modern-day national pastime that is professional football. From his controversial Covid stance to his methods of spiritual awakening to his estrangement from his family to his high-profile romances to his devastating Achilles injury a mere four plays into his New York Jets career, Rodgers has long dominated the NFL’s news cycle. At thirty-nine, in search of a challenge that would rejuvenate him, Rodgers divorced the iconic Green Bay Packers of Vince Lombardi fame for the Jets, who have not appeared in a Super Bowl since Neil Armstrong stepped on the moon. The trade made Rodgers the biggest story in the biggest league in the biggest market. By far. That story only got bigger when Rodgers shockingly went down on the night of 9/11, in front of a packed house that roared for him when he took the field carrying an American flag, and in front of the biggest Monday Night Football audience in ESPN history, peaking at more than 25 million viewers across all platforms. Rodgers then shocked the world by pulling off the fastest recorded comeback from an Achilles tear, returning to practice eleven weeks after surgery. Remarkably enough, he would have played again in the 2023 season, at age 40, had the Jets remained in playoff contention. Ian O’Connor uses hundreds of original interviews to pull back the curtain and answer the most penetrating questions about the league’s most enigmatic player. Just like he did in his defining bios of Bill Belichick, Mike Krzyzewski, Derek Jeter, Jack Nicklaus, and Arnold Palmer, O’Connor reveals all sides of an all-time great and delivers a portrait of a complex man that will forever shape the way he is viewed.
