Book excerpt: This is the latest edition of Garry Landreth’s comprehensive text on creating therapeutic relationships with children through play. This book details Child-Centered Play Therapy (CCPT), an evidence-based model, which stresses the importance of understanding the child’s world. Professors who have taught a course based on the previous editions will be pleased to find the core message intact but updated with a comprehensive review of rigorous contemporary research demonstrating the strong evidence base for CCPT across cultural groups and presenting issues. Expanded to cover additional topics of interest, this new edition includes a model of the change process in CCPT and 13 new Rules of Thumb that help clarify the CCPT relationship, and discusses deeper issues in CCPT, such as recognizing emotional blocks in play therapy, being culturally responsive, discovering meaning when there seems to be no meaning, and more. Book Synopsis Child Care Needs and Numbers by : Jean Packman
Download or read book Child Care Needs and Numbers written by Jean Packman and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2021-11-07 with total page 250 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Originally published in 1968, the study described in this title began in a very small way in late 1960. At that time some Oxfordshire county councillors and children’s department officials were very conscious that the number of children in care in the county was high in comparison with the national average. This meant that expenditure was also high. The County’s position, however, was not unique. Oxford City was in a similar position, but other neighbours did not appear to have the same problem. A small research project was launched to investigate and it soon became apparent that there was a large and complex problem to be solved. The problem was of striking, persistent and puzzling variations in the proportion of children in care in the different local authority children’s departments of England and Wales. This seemed to warrant a larger investigation on a country-wide basis and this book outlines the findings of that project.

Book excerpt: In this helpful book, Dr. Paul Ekman, a world-renowned expert on lying, shows parents how to deal effectively with the variety of lies children of all ages tell—from little white lies to boasting and bragging to the outright concealing of information. “My son Billy lied to me and he’s only five. Is that normal?” “I know Joanne is lying when she tells me she doesn’t smoke pot, but I can’t prove it. What should I do?” “Heather won’t tell me what she does on her dates. She says it’s none of my business, but don’t I have a right to know?” You’ll learn what motivates a child to lie, why some kids lie more than others, what to do if you suspect or discover your child is lying, how you can encourage your child to tell the truth, and more—all in easy-to-understand, practical language that makes this an invaluable book for every family.

Together they demonstrate the wide range of sympathies, experience and knowledge required for the special education of a child in any instance. It considers children with mild and severe handicaps, both physical and sensory, and those with educational difficulties ranging from reading problems to profound mental handicap. Children in care and in poverty are also represented - they can be said to be socially handicapped by their circumstances, often experiencing educational difficulties as well. All the case studies emphasise the needs and wishes of children and their families, and encourage greater involvement for children with special needs in ordinary schools.
