Book Synopsis Making Faith Magnetic by : Daniel Strange
Download or read book Making Faith Magnetic written by Daniel Strange and published by The Good Book Company. This book was released on 2021-10-01 with total page 158 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How to talk about Jesus in a way that connects with modern culture. As followers of Jesus, we know that the good news is deeply attractive. But we often fear that to those on the outside, it comes across as irrelevant or even repellent. Sometimes the Christian worldview feels so out of step with everything else going on that we don't know how to share our faith. However, author Daniel Strange wants to show you that the connections are there—in fact, the longings that our culture cannot help but express are the very ones that Jesus fulfils. Building on the work of theologian J.H. Bavinck, Dan reveals five recurring themes that our culture can’t stop talking about, or, as he puts it, the "five permanent ‘itches’ that in our work, rest, and play, we have to vigorously scratch." From TV to books to social media, these are the questions we can't stop asking and the tensions we can't stop wrestling with—and Jesus speaks powerfully into each one. This book will help you to spot these connections in our culture, excite you about how Jesus makes sense of humankind’s deepest questions and longings, apply them to your own life first and then equip you to speak of him to others in a way that is truly magnetic. "Dan Strange has written another terrific, down-to-earth book to help believers engage in fruitful conversations with friends about faith." Dr. Timothy Keller, who has also written the foreword to this book.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With a splendid selection from a half century of marvelous poems, a major Polish poet appears in English at last One of Poland's greatest living poets—now in English at last—Ryszard Krynicki was born in 1943 in a Nazi labor camp, the son of Polish slave laborers. His 1969 volume, Act of Birth, marked the emergence of a major voice in the "New Wave" of Polish poetry. In Krynicki's work, political and poetic rebellion converged during the 1970s and '80s, he was arrested on trumped-up charges and forbidden from publishing. But his poetry is hardly just political. From the early dissident poems to his recent haiku, Krynicki's lyrical work taps deep wells of linguistic acuity, mysticism, compression, and wit.

Book excerpt: born in transit / I came upon on the place of death So Ryszard Krynicki begins the early lyric that gave his 1969 debut volume Act of Birth its title (a poem which ends: "I live / in the place of death"). These are not simply metaphors. One of the greatest poets of postwar Poland, Krynicki was born in 1943 in a Nazi labor camp in Austria, where his parents, Polish peasants from Ukraine, served as slave laborers. Act of Birth marked the emergence of a major voice-alongside Adam Zagajewski and Stanislaw Baranczak-in Poland's "Generation of 68" or "New Wave." Political and poetic rebellion converged, and the regime took notice. During the 1970s and 80s, Krynicki was arrested on trumped-up charges, dismissed from work, and forbidden from publishing. But to read his poetry as purely political would be a mistake. The early lyric "Act of Birth" displays the acute linguistic and ethical sensitivity at work. A distinctive combination of mysticism, compression, and wit shapes Krynicki's writing from the early dissident poems to his late haiku. Small wonder that his influences span the distance from Issa to Zbigniew Herbert, and include Nelly Sachs and Paul Celan (both of whom he has translated splendidly). Himself an editor, publisher, and acclaimed translator, Krynicki has won major prizes, from the Polish Poets' Award to, most recently, the 2015 Zbigniew Herbert International Literature Prize.

Book Synopsis Hexaferrite Permanent Magnetic Materials by : Sami H. Mahmood
Download or read book Hexaferrite Permanent Magnetic Materials written by Sami H. Mahmood and published by Materials Research Forum LLC. This book was released on 2016-10-10 with total page 198 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This concise book presents the basic concepts of magnetism and magnetic properties pertinent to permanent magnetic materials. Emphasis is placed on hexaferrite materials for permanent magnet applications, with M-type ferrites as the focal point. The relatively high metallicity of magnetic materials for practical applications imposes limitations for their efficient use. Accordingly, magnetic oxides with ferromagnetic properties emerged as the most widely used magnetic materials for practical applications, owing to their characteristic high resistivity and low eddy current losses, chemical stability, simplicity of production in mass quantities, and other favorable characteristics. An important class of these oxides is the class of hexagonal ferrites developed in the early 1950’s, which dominated the world market of permanent magnet applications since the end of the 1980’s. Among these ferrites, the magnetoplumbite (M-type) hexaferrite, is produced nowadays in large quantities at very competitive low prices, thus providing the permanent magnet market with probably the most cost-effective magnetic material.

Book Synopsis Metals, Superconductors, Magnetic Materials, Liquids Disordered Solids, Optical Properties by :
Download or read book Metals, Superconductors, Magnetic Materials, Liquids Disordered Solids, Optical Properties written by and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 487 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Dynamical Properties of Solids, Volume 4: Disordered Solids, Optical Properties focuses on the lattice dynamical properties of noncrystalline and disordered solids and optical properties of crystalline solids. The selection first elaborates on the vibrational properties of amorphous solids and computer experiments and disordered solids. Topics include thermal and electrical transport, density of states, numerical methods, localization, low frequency modes, and theoretical background. The text then takes a look at the morphic effects in lattice dynamics, including normal coordinate formalism, electric-field-induced infrared absorption and Raman scattering, stress-induced changes in the phonon frequencies, and the effect of time reversal on the symmetry of the long-wavelength optical. The manuscript examines the absorption of infrared radiation by multiphonon processes in solids, as well as theoretical studies of infrared absorption in the multiphonon region and experimental studies of infrared absorption at frequencies above the characteristic lattice vibration frequencies. The selection is a dependable source of data for researchers interested in the optical properties of crystalline solids and lattice dynamical properties of noncrystalline and disordered solids.
Book Synopsis Semimagnetic Semiconductors and Diluted Magnetic Semiconductors by : M. Averous
Download or read book Semimagnetic Semiconductors and Diluted Magnetic Semiconductors written by M. Averous and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 278 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Semimagnetic semiconductors (SMSC) and diluted magnetic semiconductors (DMS) have in the past decade attracted considerable attention because they confer many new physical properties on both bulk materials and heterostructures. These new effects are due either to exchange interactions between magnetic moments on magnetic ions, or to exchange interactions between magnetic moments and the spin of the charge carrier. These effects vary with the transition metal (Mn, Fe, Co) or rare earth (Eu, Gd, etc) used and thus provide a range of different situations. The field is very large (zero gap, small gap, wide gap), and the magnetic properties also are very rich (paramagnetic spin glass, antiferromagnetism). These materials are very convenient for studying the magnetism (the magnetism is diluted) or the superlattices (SL) with a continuous change from type II SL to type III SL. This Course attempted to provide a complete overview of the topic. The participants of this summer school held in Erice came from ten countries and were from various backgrounds and included theoreticians, experimentalists, physicists, and chemists. Consequently, an attempt was made to make the Course as thorough as possible, but at the same time attention was devoted to basic principles. The lecturers, drawn from all the groups in the world involved in the field, were asked to be very didactic in their presentation. After two introductory lectures, Dr.
