Download or read book Ludwig Tieck written by Dwight Klett and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2020-02-04 with total page 172 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When originally published in 1993, this was the first bibliography of the secondary literature on Tieck. Given as much secondary literature surrounding Tieck’s life and works has been generated outside of his native Germany as within, this bibliography focuses particularly on his life and work from an international perspective. In order to make the information surrounding Tieck accessible, the book provides a detailed table of contents, with corresponding text divisions, rather than a subject index. It therefore highlights Tieck’s achievements in their various national contexts so that not only students of German can get an accurate feel for Tieck’s versatility and range.

Book Synopsis Die Landschaft interpretieren: Interdisziplinäre Ansätze by : Werner Kreisel
Download or read book Die Landschaft interpretieren: Interdisziplinäre Ansätze written by Werner Kreisel and published by Universitätsverlag Göttingen. This book was released on 2021 with total page 349 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There is no generally valid, recognised definition of what landscape actually is. On the basis of its relatedness to the environment, to aesthetics, territory, society, politics, economics, geography, planning, ethnology and philosophy, the concept of landscape is considered to be a "composite" notion shaped by a thousand years of Central European ideas and of literary and art history. In other words, the very term "landscape" is ambiguous and it is used in different ways both in the scholarly world and everyday speech. The aim of this volume is to present various possible approaches to the phenomenon of "landscape". Far from laying any claim to be exhaustive or comprehensive we have simply tried to do justice to the overarching interdisciplinary approach of the Zentrum für Landschaftsinterpretation und Tourismus (ZELT: Centre for Landscape Interpretation and Tourism) by singling out and addressing individual instances of this fascinating multifaceted phenomenon.

Book excerpt: Die Geheimnisse der oberen und der unteren Welt (The Secrets of the Upper and the Lower World) is a substantial new collection of essays on magic in Islamic cultural history. Both comprehensive and innovative in its approach, this book offers fresh insights into an important yet still understudied area of Islamic intellectual history. The seventeen chapters deal with key aspects of Islamic magic, including its historical developments, geographical variants, and modern-day practices. The general introduction identifies and problematizes numerous sub-topics and key practitioners/theoreticians in the Arabo-Islamic context. This, along with terminological and bibliographical appendices, makes the volume an unparalleled reference work for both specialists and a broader readership. Mit Beiträgen von:Roland Berbig, Regina Dieterle, Konrad Ehlich, Jan Gehlsen, Harald Haferland, Karsten Jørgensen, Detlef Karg, Dieter Kartschoke, Wolfgang Keim, Hansjörg Küster, Günther Mensching, Gerd Michelsen, Maria E. Book Synopsis The Magic of Things by : Jochen Sander
Download or read book The Magic of Things written by Jochen Sander and published by Hatje Cantz. This book was released on 2008 with total page 378 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “This excellent book is a painfully honest account of successive unwinnable wars. It is the text book Mr. Obama and others will need if Afghanistan is ever to be left to find its own peace and prosperity.” —Jon Snow, Channel 4 News (UK) Jonathan Steele, an award-winning journalist and commentator, has covered the country since his first visit there as a reporter in 1981. He tracked the Soviet occupation and the communist regime of Najibullah, which held the Western-backed resistance at bay for three years after the Soviets left. He covered the arrival of the Taliban to power in Kabul in 1996, and their retreat from Kandahar under the weight of U.S. bombing in 2001. Most recently Steele has reported from the epicenter of the Taliban resurgence in Helmand. Ghosts of Afghanistan turns a spotlight on the numerous myths about Afghanistan that have bedeviled foreign policy-makers and driven them to repeat earlier mistakes. Steele has conducted numerous interviews with ordinary Afghans, two of the country's Communist presidents, senior Soviet occupation officials, as well as Taliban leaders, Western diplomats, NATO advisers, and United Nations negotiators. Comparing the challenges facing the Obama administration as it seeks to find an exit strategy with those the Kremlin faced in the 1980s, Steele cautions that military victory will elude the West just as it eluded the Kremlin. Showing how and why Soviet efforts to negotiate an end to the war came to nothing, he explains how negotiations today could put a stop to the tragedies of civil war and foreign intervention that have afflicted Afghanistan for three decades.
