Book Synopsis Revelation, Mystical Phenomena and Divine Promises by : Deacon Albert Graham
Download or read book Revelation, Mystical Phenomena and Divine Promises written by Deacon Albert Graham and published by Trafford Publishing. This book was released on 2022-10-05 with total page 754 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The reader will be appraised of how God has been speaking to His people through public and private revelation for over 2000 years. A special chapter in this work deals with some saints and holy people who have had private revelations about or visits from souls in purgatory, hell or heaven. Another chapter and several of the appendixes are devoted to Marian Apparitions to include those that are approved, not approved and those appending a decision by the Church. By far one of the greatest strengths of this undertaking is the identification of some 43 categories of concomitant extraordinary phenomena and some of the saints and holy people who have experienced them. Color paintings by artists are depicted of some saints experiencing such mystical phenomena. Another unique feature of the book is a listing of some 600 individuals from the 13th to the 21st centuries who bore the stigmata. By knowing that God is present and alive to His people this book may help bring others to a deeper faith in God.

Book Synopsis Palermo city guide by : Adriana Chirco
Download or read book Palermo city guide written by Adriana Chirco and published by Dario Flaccovio Editore. This book was released on 2020-03-31T00:00:00+02:00 with total page 145 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Palermo has about 3,000 years of history and its roots predate the Punic colonisation of the 8th century BC. Because of its favourable geographical location and its fertile land, the city was preyed upon by a variety of peoples and was conquered, among others, by the Muslims, the Normans, the Aragonese and the Spaniards. From the 16th century onwards a number of hamlets and new agglomerations started to spring up in the country environs. All these have now been absorbed by urbanisation. The countryside was also characterised by the social phenomenon of villeggiatura, which considerably enhanced urbanisation of the countryside from the 17th century to the 1850s. This has given the city and its environs a unique image, outstanding for its blend of different architectural styles and historical strata. This guide, based on a number of historical itineraries, is intended to enable the visitor to discover Palermo and its surroundings through a detailed account of the countless churches, the numerous palazzi and the various street patterns which all testify to the city’s development throughout the centuries.

Book excerpt: This book is the first-ever study of Malta's major eighteenth-century composer, Benigno Zerafa (1726 - 1804), a specialist in sacred music composition. This book is the first-ever study of Malta's major eighteenth-century composer, Benigno Zerafa (1726-1804), a specialist in sacred music composition. Zerafa's large-scale and small-scale vocal and choral works, mostly written during his long service as musical director at the Cathedral of Mdina, have been winning increased recognition in recent years. In addition to describing and analysing this extensive corpus, the book gives an account of Zerafa's sometimes eventful career against the wider background of the rich musical and cultural life in Malta, especial attention being paid to its strong links with Italy, and particularly Naples, where Zerafa was a student for six years. Itexamines in detail the complex relationship of music to Catholic liturgy and investigates the distinctive characteristics of the musical style, intermediate between baroque and classical, in which Zerafa was trained and always composed: one that today is commonly labelled "galant". Well stocked with music examples, the book makes copious reference to Italian and Maltese composers from Zerafa's time and to modern analytical studies of Italian music from the middle decades of the eighteenth century, thereby offering a useful general commentary on the galant period. Its central aim, however, is to stimulate further interest in, and revival of, Zerafa's music. To this end the book contains a complete work-list with supplementary indexes. Scholars and students of eighteenth-century music, in particular sacred music, the galant style and Italian music, will find it invaluable. FREDERICK AQUILINAis Senior Lecturer in Music Studies at the University of Malta.
