Book excerpt: When William Henry ODonner, Democratic governor from Pennsylvania, wins the Democratic party nomination for president of the United States in the summer of 2008, and then the presidency in that falls general elections, he became the first from his party to wrest control of the White House from the Republicans since the end of the last century. Given the bitterness of losing the elections in 2000 to the Republican candidate, Benjamin Croft, the left wing of the Democratic party was ecstatic over the win and saw it as their opportunity to fundamentally change the direction the country had taken after September 11, 2001, when in their minds the Republican presidency of Benjamin Croft had instituted repressive measures in an attempt to protect the country from another attack by elements of radical Islam. At long last, they were in a position to remove all American combat forces from the Middle East (who they viewed as occupation troops in an illegal war), remove all barriers to immigration, and to institute political measures to ensure the predominance of the left-leaning Democratic party for generations to come. As the political drama unfolds after the inauguration of President William Henry ODonner on January 20, 2009, Dr. Ross Shepard former Navy SEAL team leader and current professor of political science at Clemson University in Clemson, South Carolina is preparing his students for final spring exams when he receives a call from an old friend in his military past. Still at the Pentagon and part of Homeland Security, Commander Frank Reddings alerts Dr. Ross Shepard of Internet chatter the National Security Administration has been picking up for the last few months which leads it to believe involves a divergence of strategy by Al Qaeda. It appears Al Qaeda is attempting to move away from hard targets like New York and Washington, D.C., toward softer targets in the Southeast. CDR Reddings wants Dr. Ross Shepard to organize and maintain a Southeastern Threat Assessment Group (STAG) to prepare to fend off any attempts by Al Qaeda to attack the southeastern section of the country. With some misgivings, Dr. Ross Shepard agrees to do so and is quickly swept up in a web of intrigue involving shaheed (suicide) bombers, nuclear politics, and love.

A true story about how a man's madness turned into a search for the answers to great philosphical questions in order to regain his sanity. The book which casually jumps from comedy through tragedy and borders on philosophy is an account of many of the mental health problems that can affect a person, depression, post traumatic stress, messianic and psychotic delusions and social anxiety from a man who experienced them all and experienced them while on drugs. Madness is not a description that fully does justice to the many experiences and choices of this one peculiar man. About the AuthorJack Fenix was born in October of 1986 and raised for most of his life by a single mother. From a young age he began having the delusion that he was meant to save the world, his first experience of mental illness, and became more engrossed in it as time passed. Experiencing post traumatic stress disorder at age fifteen he withdrew from the world even further into drug addiction and using computer games as another means of escapism. At age eighteen he was hit by a further traumatic incident which forced him to face up to years of mental illness and delusion and quit the drugs which he had used to keep himself from facing reality. After years in recovery he faces many mental health problems but tries to stay active in the cause of mental health reform as much as possible.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: FOLLOW ELIZABETH DOWN THE RABBIT HOLE-AND MEET A WHOLE NEW ALICE. Elizabeth, a twenty-four-year-old interior designer living in Brooklyn, New York, encounters a little more than mental static when she sits down for her morning meditation, feeling disconnected from herself and her reality. As she meditates, she forces herself to confront her inner demons head on-including the darker parts that she would rather keep hidden from others, like her boyfriend, Adam. Her inner conflict leads her down a rabbit hole that is far different from the one she remembers from her favorite childhood story. When Elizabeth reaches the bottom of the rabbit hole, she follows a shadowy figure in a familiar blue dress who taunts her and coaxes her deeper into Wonderland. Unable to release herself from her meditation, Elizabeth chases Alice through Wonderland, guided by clues left by Alice, as well as the dark and strangely familiar characters she meets, like the Cheshire Cat, the Tweedle twins, and the Mad Hatter. In Wonderland, Elizabeth comes face to face with her inner light and darkness, and, finally, Alice-and discovers that Alice's secret might be what she has been searching for all along.

The authors were clearly "in the house" when they crafted their stories. Okay. A second thing's for sure. They also "brought the house down" when this book was published! Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: At fifteen, Turner was already exhibiting View of Lambeth. He soon acquired the reputation of an immensely clever watercolourist. A disciple of Girtin and Cozens, he showed in his choice and presentation of theme a picturesque imagination which seemed to mark him out for a brilliant career as an illustrator. He travelled, first in his native land and then on several occasions in France, the Rhine Valley, Switzerland and Italy. He soon began to look beyond illustration. However, even in works in which we are tempted to see only picturesque imagination, there appears his dominant and guiding ideal of lyric landscape. His choice of a single master from the past is an eloquent witness for he studied profoundly such canvases of Claude as he could find in England, copying and imitating them with a marvellous degree of perfection. His cult for the great painter never failed. He desired his Sun Rising through Vapour and Dido Building Carthage to be placed in the National Gallery side by side with two of Claude’s masterpieces. And, there, we may still see them and judge how legitimate was this proud and splendid homage. It was only in 1819 that Turner went to Italy, to go again in 1829 and 1840. Certainly Turner experienced emotions and found subjects for reverie which he later translated in terms of his own genius into symphonies of light and colour. Ardour is tempered with melancholy, as shadow strives with light. Melancholy, even as it appears in the enigmatic and profound creation of Albrecht Dürer, finds no home in Turner’s protean fairyland – what place could it have in a cosmic dream? Humanity does not appear there, except perhaps as stage characters at whom we hardly glance. Turner’s pictures fascinate us and yet we think of nothing precise, nothing human, only unforgettable colours and phantoms that lay hold on our imaginations. Humanity really only inspires him when linked with the idea of death – a strange death, more a lyrical dissolution – like the finale of an opera.
