Book Synopsis L'Union européenne dans le temps long by : Jean-Louis Quermonne
Download or read book L'Union européenne dans le temps long written by Jean-Louis Quermonne and published by Les Presses de Sciences Po. This book was released on 2008 with total page 252 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Synopsis Oxford Principles of European Union Law by : Robert Schütze
Download or read book Oxford Principles of European Union Law written by Robert Schütze and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2018-03-01 with total page 1914 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since the 1957 Rome Treaty, the European Union has changed dramatically - in terms of its composition, scope and depth. Originally established by six Western European States, the EU today has 28 Members and covers almost the entire European continent; and while initially confined to establishing a "common market", the EU has come to influence all areas of political, economic and social life. In parallel with this enormous geographic and thematic expansion, the constitutional and legislative principles underpinning the European Union have constantly evolved. This three-volume study aims to provide an authoritative academic treatment of European Union law. Written by leading scholars and practitioners, each chapter offers a comprehensive and critical assessment of the state of the law. Doctrinal in presentation, each volume nonetheless tries to present a broader historical and comparative perspective. Volume I provides an analysis of the constitutional principles governing the European Union. It covers the history of the EU, the constitutional foundations, the institutional framework, legislative and executive governance, judicial protection, and external relations. Volume II explores the structure of the internal market, while Volume III finally analyses the internal and external substantive policies of the EU.
Book Synopsis Proliferation of International Organizations by : Niels M. Blokker
Download or read book Proliferation of International Organizations written by Niels M. Blokker and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2021-11-29 with total page 591 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The proliferation of international organizations is presently a hot issue. New international organizations have been created over the last few years, such as the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons and the World Trade Organization. At the same time a certain reluctance may be observed to create new organizations. Overlapping activities and conflicting competences occur frequently and the need for coordination is evident. The events in former Yugoslavia are an example. Both during the armed conflicts in Bosnia and Kosovo and afterwards in the era of reconstruction, the need to coordinate the work of organizations such as the UN, NATO, the EU, the World Bank, OSCE, and the Council of Europe was vital. Against this background a number of legal issues have become more important that have not yet been researched extensively, perhaps the only exception being the proliferation of international tribunals. Questions include the following: Why were new organizations created while others already existed in the same or a related field? What specific legal problems have arisen that are related to the coexistence of different organizations working (partly) in the same area? What mechanisms or instruments have been developed to coordinate the activities and to solve legal problems? These and other questions were discussed during a conference that took place from 18 to 20 November, 1999, in the Academy Building of Leiden University, The Netherlands. A large number of experts, both academics and practitioners, participated. The purpose of this book is to present the issues discussed during the Leiden conference to a larger audience. This book contains the adapted papers for the conference and several other contributions.

Book Synopsis Between Flexibility and Disintegration by : Bruno De Witte
Download or read book Between Flexibility and Disintegration written by Bruno De Witte and published by Edward Elgar Publishing. This book was released on 2017-02-24 with total page 443 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Differentiation was at first not perceived as a threat to the European project, but rather as a tool to promote further integration. Today, more EU policies than ever are marked by concentric circles of integration and a lack of uniform application. As the EU faces increasingly existential challenges, this timely book considers whether the proliferation of mechanisms of flexibility has contributed to this newly fragile state or whether, to the contrary, differentiation has been fundamental to integration despite the heterogeneity of national interests and priorities.

Book Synopsis Ordering Pluralism by : Mireille Delmas-Marty
Download or read book Ordering Pluralism written by Mireille Delmas-Marty and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2009-08-25 with total page 196 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From the viewpoint of the constitutional crisis in Europe, slow UN reforms, difficulties implementing the Kyoto Protocol and the International Criminal Court, and tensions between human rights and trade, Mireille Delmas-Marty's 'journey through the legal landscape' of the early years of the 21st century shows it to be dominated by imprecision, uncertainty and instability. The early 21st century appears to be the era of great disorder: in the silence of the market and the fracas of arms, a world overly fragmented by anarchical globalisation is being unified too quickly through hegemonic integration. How, she asks, can we move beyond the relative and the universal to build order without imposing it, to accept pluralism without giving up on a common law? Neither utopian fusion nor illusory autonomy, Ordering Pluralism is her answer: both an epistemological revolution and an art, it means creating a common legal area by progressive adjustments that preserve diversity. Since an immutable world order is impossible, the imaginative forces of law must be called upon to invent a flexible process of harmonisation that leaves room for believing we can agree on - and protect - common values. 'The book is timely and relevant to the practical concerns of those who work with, and within, the legal system. We must thank Professor Delmas-Marty for her fine work.' From the foreword, Stephen Breyer, Washington, DC
Book Synopsis The European Constitution in the Making by : Roberto Miccù
Download or read book The European Constitution in the Making written by Roberto Miccù and published by . This book was released on 2004 with total page 192 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the European Convention, parliamentarians and government representatives from the Member States have elaborated the Draft Constitution establishing a Constitution for Europe. This process requires academic guidance and analysis. The European Constitutional Law Network provides an important forum of associated constitutional and European lawyers from different old and new Member States (www.ecln.net). The structure of the future constitution and the general lines of argument underlying the deliberations of the Convention are the focus of the individual contributions to this volume which were presented on the occasion of the second ECLN conference in summer 2002 in Rome. Against the background of their national constitutional and legal orders, the contributors demonstrate their expectations for the European constitution in the making. Thereby, the deliberations provide a pan-European basis for the debate on the future Constitution for Europe.
