Book excerpt: Udita was born to love, even though she was ignorant about it. She left her home to come to the city where her childhood friend, Priya lived. This city gifted her another friend, Nipun. Gradually, a bond was also sealed between Udita and the city. Her romanticism took a beating when she accepted Ankit back in her life. In choosing union with him, Udita had to sever all her ties. She thus needed an abundance of trust. Instead, she recalled the inconsistency of his love. Amidst such awareness, there was a night of passion, a night that brought out her love for Nipun and they married. Ankit being the biological father of their twin daughters did not hinder happiness of their family. After the daughters grew up, the unheard-of anomaly in their paternity report caused a sensation. Their idyllic family life was interrupted. There was a price to be paid for renewed togetherness!

Their innovative application of the five love languages creates an entirely new way to touch the lives of the five million Americans who have Alzheimer’s, as well as their fifteen million caregivers. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Staying Alive: A Love Story is a story of hope and renewal that centers on a woman’s search for meaning after the untimely death of her 49-year-old husband. Coupled with other experiences of loss in her life she is determined to, with her children, persevere.Like Annie Dillard, Hayden draws on the rhythms and rituals of the natural world to explore her Brooklyn roots and New England adulthood. Wild creatures and domesticated critters, seasides and hillsides proffer comfort and understanding as she comes to realize that “no more than a hairline and no less than an eternity” separate her from the man she loved. Even with the wear and tear her faith endures, it rarely diminishes. Her purpose – to usher her two grieving children through a difficult adolescence to a well-adjusted adulthood – resonates through her own struggles. With the precise objectivity reminiscent of Joan Didion’s The Year of Magical Thinking and Joyce Carol Oates’ A Widow’s Story, Hayden recounts the day her husband died and the rituals and obsessions of the bereaved. Forced to look at death straight in the eye, the author stares back, wide-eyed, without blinking through her tears.Hayden also manages to be seriously droll – in an Anne Lamott way. Never is her humor more honed than in the portrayal of her deceased spouse, whose devotion, antics, and wisdom remain ever-present to those who are staying alive without him. His death becomes not only the family’s heartbreak, but the loss of a well-executed life for all who knew him or will get to know him through these essays.Whether Laura Hayden’s writing deals with herself, her children, or her cadre of loved ones, it is clear that she, her daughter, and her son emerge from their tragic loss survivors, not victims of Larry’s death, an outcome of which he would be very pleased. In a culture of intentionally exposed and celebrated self-victimization, the story of this family may be considered a quiet triumph.

And how can we fix the problem? In this bold, enlightening book, social psychologist and professor Daniel M. Cable takes leaders into the minds of workers and reveals the surprising secret to restoring their zest for work. Disengagement isn't a motivational problem, it's a biological one. Humans aren't built for routine and repetition. We're designed to crave exploration, experimentation, and learning--in fact, there's a part of our brains, which scientists have coined "the seeking system," that rewards us for taking part in these activities. But the way organizations are run prevents many of us from following our innate impulses. As a result, we shut down. Things need to change. More than ever before, employee creativity and engagement are needed to win. Fortunately, it won't take an extensive overhaul of your organizational culture to get started. With small nudges, you can personally help people reach their fullest potential. Alive at Work reveals: How to encourage people to bring their best selves to work and use their greatest strengths to help your organization flourish How to build creative environments that motivate people to share ideas, work smarter, and embrace change How to enhance people's connection to their work and your customers How to create personalized experiences that help people feel a deeper sense of purpose Filled with fascinating stories from the author's extensive research, Alive at Work is the inspirational guide that you need to tap into the passion, creativity, and purpose fizzing beneath the surface of every person who falls under your leadership.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Lorenz Hart, together with Richard Rodgers, created some of the most beautiful and witty songs ever written. Here is the story of the strikingly unromantic life of this songwriting genius. His lyrics spin with brilliance and sophistication, yet at their core is an unmistakable wistfulness. Rodgers and Hart, who wrote approximately thirty Broadway musicals and dozens of songs for Hollywood films, were an odd couple. Rodgers was precise, punctual, heterosexual, handsome, and eager to be accepted by society. Hart was barely five feet tall, alcoholic, homosexual, and more comfortable in a bar or restaurant than anywhere else. His lyrics are all the more remarkable considering that he never sustained a romantic relationship, living his entire life with his mother, who died only months before his own death at 48. Biographer Marmorstein superbly portrays the life of this exuberant yet troubled artist.--From publisher description.

Book excerpt: Dr. Gary Chapman has spent his life helping people communicate love more effectively and in turn build more satisfying and lasting relationships. His book The Five Love Languages is a regular on the New York Times Best Sellers list--even after being in print for fifteen years--and has made the term "love language" a part of everyday speech. Love Is a Verb takes his teaching to the next level. Rather than a typical marriage self-help book filled with lengthy explanations of principles and techniques, it is a compilation of true stories displaying love in action. These stories--written by everyday people--go straight to the hearts of readers, who often say that illustrations are the most effective parts of a book. Gary Chapman adds a "Love Lesson" to each story, showing readers how they can apply the same principles to their own relationships.

Book excerpt: Every 12.3 minutes someone completes suicide, and I was almost one of them. I had written letters, picked a day, and packed up all my belongings because I believed my life was worthless and disposable. What lies ahead of you is my journey from suicide attempt towards abundant life. I share it with you in hopes that you can see yourself or someone you love in my story and find the courage to start conversations about faith, mental health, depression, and suicide.I am not a pastor, a deep-sea diver, an Avenger, or a mongoose whisperer. I have never sawed off my own arm, had my hand digested by a shark, or experienced any other amazing feat of humanity. I am just an average guy who found his world slipping away and-in a moment of extreme clarity-made the terrifying decision to stay and chase a life that is fully and recklessly alive.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The year 2020 was not good for our country. I feel there were a lot of people just like me. We were faces in our windows, looking out, wondering what in the world is going on. We have some evil giants trying to stomp us down, and they are trying to turn our country into something we cannot accept. God is love, but He is not just soft, mushy, quiet love. God has a temper, and He has displayed it in His Word. The scolding poems (the face in the window poems) came to me in a basically complete form. To me, they were a gift. I barely changed a word or corrected any of them. It is okay for us to use righteous indignation to fight what is wrong. We are not doormats for someone to wipe their feet on. If someone is trying to walk all over you, pull yourself out from underneath them and knock them on their backsides. God uses tough love for correction and teaching. God will show His wrath when He is angered. He displays His righteous indignation. He offers the greatest love imaginable. He offers mercy and grace. Don’t forget He has a sense of humor. God has a wide range of emotions and so do we. God loves America. God’s love is alive. God loves to hear from us, and He is saying, “Where are you?” I love to write poems about God’s love for us and my love for Him. Now it’s 2021. Hmm...something is going to happen.
