Download or read book A Lotus Trail written by Tara Gardiner and published by Independently Published. This book was released on 2021-08-13 with total page 444 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "I woke, in the nude, surrounded by empty beer bottles and five naked men, with no idea how I got there". After a childhood accident left her permanently disabled, Tara Gardiner spent decades searching for happiness. For 20 years, she backpacked through North and South America, Europe, Africa and Asia, on a fruitless hunt for meaning. The life and soul of every party, ready for any adventure her damaged knee would permit, she lived life to the full. So why were her fleeting moments of joy marred by illness, hangovers, memory gaps, physical and sexual assault - and shame? Finally, in a desperate attempt to avoid the knee replacement her doctors said was essential, Tara tried a new path. Returning to India after 18 years, she swapped drink, drugs and anonymous sex for yoga, study and Tibetan Buddhism. And as she began to find, inside herself, the contentment she sought, a chance encounter in India's poorest state directed her to her life's purpose. Populated with a cast of colourful characters, A Lotus Trail is the story of one woman's quest for self-discovery. It will take you on an inspiring journey from desperation to transformation, and show you that anything is possible.
Book Synopsis IMS 11 Open Database by : Paolo Bruni
Download or read book IMS 11 Open Database written by Paolo Bruni and published by IBM Redbooks. This book was released on 2010-08-12 with total page 296 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: IMSTM Version 11 continues to provide the leadership in performance, reliability, and security that is expected from the product of choice for critical online operational applications. IMS 11 also offers new functions to help you keep pace with the evolving IT industry. Through the introduction of the new IMS Enterprise Suite application developers with minimal knowledge of IMS Connect can start developing client applications to communicate with IMS. With Open Database, IMS 11 also provides direct SQL access to IMS data from programs that run on any distributed platform, unlocking DL/I data to the world of SQL application programmers. In this IBM® Redbooks® publication, system programmers get the steps for installing the new IMS components, and the application programmer can follow scenarios of how client applications can take advantage of SQL to access IMS data. We describe the installation of prerequisites, such as IMS Connect and the Structured Call Interface component of Common Service Layer address space and document the set up of the three new IMS drivers: - Universal DB resource adapter - Universal JDBC driver - Universal DL/I driver Our scenarios use the JDBC driver for type-4 access from Windows® to a remote DL/I database and DB2® tables and extend it to use IBM Mashup Center to provide an effective Web interface and to integrate with Open Database. Important: IMS Enterprise Suite V2.1 is the last release of the IMS Enterprise Suite that includes the DLIModel utility plug-in. Customers should migrate to using IMS Enterprise Suite V2.2 or later, which includes the IMS Enterprise Suite Explorer for Development. DLIModel utility projects can be imported into new IMS Explorer projects. In this book, any references to generating IMS metadata classes by using the DLIModel utility are comparable to the actions used to generate the classes using the IMS Explorer for Development.

As they walked through the home they felt the sorrow and excitement of new heirs and they reminisced about their childhood days in this antiquated residence where nothing had changed for years. Upstairs in a shuttered bedroom, an ornately enameled chest lured them by its barbaric splendor, and they were compelled to open it. Inside they found a key. The Family Jewels is a comedic mystery and the first book of the trilogy, Glamour Galore. Our industrious author is madly scribbling away with frantic haste the next two novels. Naughty Astronautess, the middle novel, recounts the adventures of the first drag queen astronaut. The concluding novel, The Mermaid and the Sailor, is a romantic romp set in Provincetown. Download or read book Signs of a Colonial Era written by and published by Hong Kong University Press. This book was released on 2009-01-01 with total page 207 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the street names of Hong Kong, a rich history of the city can be found. The authors, in this illustrated book, explore that history as they explain the origins and meanings of those names. Through their exhaustive research, Signs from a Colonial Era provides the stories behind the well-known streets and those that are obscure and puzzling. But a few have resisted their efforts, so there is a chapter of mysteries to intrigue and challenge the reader. This is a book to be read in two ways. From the front you can find all the streets named after royalty, or governors, or other groups such as taipans, and see the naming of streets as a narrative of Hong Kong's development and society. In the other direction, starting from the index, it can be used as a reference book to find the answers to those names that have long puzzled you. The bilingual author team gives the Chinese street names, exploring those that were just chosen to sound like the English name and sometimes changed to avoid unfortunate Cantonese meanings, and those others for which the Chinese name has no connection with the English one. This is a book for everyone who has ever puzzled over a street name as they explore Hong Kong.
Book Synopsis Visions of Awakening Space and Time by : Taigen Dan Leighton
Download or read book Visions of Awakening Space and Time written by Taigen Dan Leighton and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2008-12-31 with total page 208 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As a religion concerned with universal liberation, Zen grew out of a Buddhist worldview very different from the currently prevalent scientific materialism. Indeed, says Taigen Dan Leighton, Zen cannot be fully understood outside of a worldview that sees reality itself as a vital, dynamic agent of awareness and healing. In this book, Leighton explicates that worldview through the writings of the Zen master Eihei D?gen (1200-1253), considered the founder of the Japanese S?t? Zen tradition, which currently enjoys increasing popularity in the West. The Lotus Sutra, arguably the most important Buddhist scripture in East Asia, contains a famous story about bodhisattvas (enlightening beings) who emerge from under the earth to preserve and expound the Lotus teaching in the distant future. The story reveals that the Buddha only appears to pass away, but actually has been practicing, and will continue to do so, over an inconceivably long life span. Leighton traces commentaries on the Lotus Sutra from a range of key East Asian Buddhist thinkers, including Daosheng, Zhiyi, Zhanran, Saigyo, My?e, Nichiren, Hakuin, and Ry?kan. But his main focus is Eihei D?gen, the 13th century Japanese S?t? Zen founder who imported Zen from China, and whose profuse, provocative, and poetic writings are important to the modern expansion of Buddhism to the West. D?gen's use of this sutra expresses the critical role of Mahayana vision and imagination as the context of Zen teaching, and his interpretations of this story furthermore reveal his dynamic worldview of the earth, space, and time themselves as vital agents of spiritual awakening. Leighton argues that D?gen uses the images and metaphors in this story to express his own religious worldview, in which earth, space, and time are lively agents in the bodhisattva project. Broader awareness of D?gen's worldview and its implications, says Leighton, can illuminate the possibilities for contemporary approaches to primary Mahayana concepts and practices.
