Los factores que matizan actualmente la interpretacion de la condicion del paciente, sus necesidades y sus derechos, son muy diversos y complejos. El conflicto entre los derechos y necesidades del paciente y algunos otros valores sociales no siempre han sido percibidos en su justa dimension, y se observa una cierta falta de conciencia en el personal de salud, sobre cual es el punto de vista del paciente, lo que ha propiciado, en muchos casos, un alejamiento de los principios fundamentales de la atencion hospitalaria. Un recordatorio sobre los derechos fundamentales del paciente hospitalizado, analizados en el contexto del hospital de fines del siglo XX, puede cimbrar algunas conciencias entre quienes practican la atencion medica hospitalaria y favorecer la rectificacion de algunas tendencias que parecen ignorar o que soslayan estos principios(AU).
