Del primer viaje se conservan dos extractos escritos por fray Bartolomé de las Casas. Uno de ellos es este. Pero el dominico no utilizó el documento original, que estaba en los archivos reales, ni es seguro que el resumen lo hiciera él mismo; más bien parece que utilizara un texto ya abreviado. El otro extracto está incluido en la Historia de las Indias del propio De las Casas, que también guarda la Biblioteca Nacional, y fue elaborado en base al primer resumen y a la biografía de Colón que escribió su hijo Hernando. El diario del segundo viaje se ha reconstruido, en la medida de lo posible, mediante las historias del dominico y del hijo de Colón, ya que ambos consultaron el escrito del almirante. Para el tercer viaje, los dos autores utilizaron el diario perdido y la relación que escribió Colón a los reyes, desde La Española. English: The original diaries of Columbus' four voyages were lost but the events have been reconstructed, in part thanks to other documents. Two extracts written by Brother Bartolomé de las Casas have been conserved from the first journey. This is one of them. But the Dominican friar did not use the original document, which was in the royal archive, nor is it certain that he wrote the summary himself; rather it seems that he used an already abbreviated text. The other extract is included in the Historia de las Indias (History of the Indies) by De las Casas himself, which is also stored in the National Library and was drawn up based on the first summary and the biography of Columbus, written by his son Hernando. The diary of the second voyage has been reconstructed, as far as possible, from the stories of the Dominican friar and Columbus' son, as both consulted the Admirals document. For the third voyage, the two authors used the lost diary and the account written to the king and queen by Columbus, from Hispaniola.
