Book Synopsis The Young Landlords by : Walter Dean Myers
Download or read book The Young Landlords written by Walter Dean Myers and published by Penguin. This book was released on 1989-10-01 with total page 210 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: If you were looking for a real ghetto dump, you couldn’t beat The Stratford Arms. There was Askia Ben Kenobi throwing karate chops upstairs, Petey Darden making booze downstairs, and Mrs. Brown grieving for Jack Johnson, who’d died for the third time in a month—and not a rent payer in the bunch. Still, when Paul Williams and the Action Group got the Arms for one dollar, they thought they had it made. But when their friend Chris was arrested for stealing stereos and Dean’s dog started biting fire hydrants and Gloria started kissing, being a landlord turned out to be a lot more work than being a kid.
Download or read book Lords of the Land written by Idith Zertal and published by Bold Type Books. This book was released on 2009-06-09 with total page 578 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Lords of the Land tells the tragic story of Jewish settlement in the West Bank and Gaza Strip. In the aftermath of the 1967 war and Israel's devastating victory over its Arab neighbors, catastrophe struck both the soul and psyche of the state of Israel. Based on years of research, and written by one of Israel's leading historians and journalists, this involving narrative focuses on the settlers themselves -- often fueled by messianic zeal but also inspired by the original Zionist settlers -- and shows the role the state of Israel has played in nurturing them through massive economic aid and legal sanctions. The occupation, the authors argue, has transformed the very foundations of Israel's society, economy, army, history, language, moral profile, and international standing. "The vast majority of the 6.5 million Israelis who live in their country do not know any other reality," the authors write. "The vast majority of the 3.5 million Palestinians who live in the regions of their occupied land do not know any other reality. The prolonged military occupation and the Jewish settlements that are perpetuating it have toppled Israeli governments and have brought Israel's democracy and its political culture to the brink of an abyss."

Book Synopsis The Landlord’s Guide to Minnesota Law by : HOME Line
Download or read book The Landlord’s Guide to Minnesota Law written by HOME Line and published by HOME Line. This book was released on 2015-10-05 with total page 264 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Landlord’s Guide to Minnesota Law addresses every landlord-tenant legal issue that is likely to arise over the course of a lease. From how to find a tenant to what to do once they leave, it is a practical and thorough legal analysis of what Minnesota landlords need to know about complying with the relevant federal, state and local laws. At the end of each chapter you’ll find “Tips from a Tenant Attorney.” These tips offer more creative advice on how landlords can solve difficult legal situations or prevent them from ever occurring. Also included is our exclusive line-by-line analysis of the Minnesota State Bar Association’s Model Residential Lease. Instead of guessing what your lease terms mean, this guide tells you why each term exists and how it applies to your situation. This book was written by practicing attorneys in Minnesota who work exclusively in landlord-tenant law. There are dozens of legal guides available online for landlords, but none of them focus on Minnesota statutes and regulations, and when it comes to landlord-tenant legal issues, state law is key. Both authors are currently practicing attorneys with over 25 years of experience in tenant landlord law, advising over 39,000 renters on HOME Line’s tenant hotline. They also train a wide variety of audiences in tenant landlord law, including over 100 trainings to landlord groups throughout Minnesota.
Book Synopsis American Planters and Irish Landlords in Comparative and Transnational Perspective by : Cathal Smith
Download or read book American Planters and Irish Landlords in Comparative and Transnational Perspective written by Cathal Smith and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2021-03-14 with total page 261 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the first study to systematically explore similarities, differences, and connections between the histories of American planters and Irish landlords. The book focuses primarily on the comparative and transnational investigation of an antebellum Mississippi planter named John A. Quitman (1799–1858) and a nineteenth-century Irish landlord named Robert Dillon, Lord Clonbrock (1807–93), examining their economic behaviors, ideologies, labor relations, and political histories. Locating Quitman and Clonbrock firmly within their wider local, national, and international contexts, American Planters and Irish Landlords in Comparative and Transnational Perspective argues that the two men were representative of specific but comparable manifestations of agrarian modernity, paternalism, and conservatism that became common among the landed elites who dominated economy, society, and politics in the antebellum American South and in nineteenth-century Ireland. It also demonstrates that American planters and Irish landlords were connected by myriad direct and indirect transnational links between their societies, including transatlantic intellectual cultures, mutual participation in global capitalism, and the mass migration of people from Ireland to the United States that occurred during the nineteenth century.

Download or read book Landlords and Tenants written by Jerome G. Rose and published by Transaction Publishers. This book was released on 1973 with total page 300 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Blatant tenant hostility towards landlords, widespread neglect and wholesale abandonment of properties, and a critical shortage of housing accommodations for low- and moderate-income tenants for all symptoms, in Professor Rose's view, of the current legal relationship between landlords and tenantsâan unworkable anachronism dangerously maladjusted to social, economic, and political realities. This book describes in detail the patterns by which myriad inequities have been woven into the law, and suggests some remedies. It provides, in plain language, a comprehensive and up-to-date manual of the rights and liabilities of landlords and tenants. This strand was agrarian life. The resulting book looks closely at rural life in England and discusses issues such as landlords, tenants, and smallholders.
Book Synopsis County Borough Elections in England and Wales, 1919–1938: A Comparative Analysis by : Sam Davies
Download or read book County Borough Elections in England and Wales, 1919–1938: A Comparative Analysis written by Sam Davies and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-12-05 with total page 631 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: These volumes provide an essential comprehensive work of reference for the annual municipal elections that took place each November in the 83 County Boroughs of England and Wales between 1919 and 1938. They also provide an extensive and detailed analysis of municipal politics in the same period, both in terms of the individual boroughs and of aggregate patterns of political behaviour. Being annual, these local election results give the clearest and most authoritative record of how political opinion changed between general elections, especially useful for research into the longer gaps such as 1924-29 and 1935-45, or crisis periods such as 1929-31. They also illuminate the impact of fringe parties such as the Communist Party and the British Union of Fascists, and also such questions as the role of women in politics, the significance of religious and ethnic differentiation and the connection between occupational and class divisions and party allegiance. Analysis at the ward level is particularly useful for socio-spatial studies. A major work of reference, County Borough Elections in England and Wales, 1919-1938 is indispensable for university libraries and local and national record offices. Each volume has approximately 700 pages.
