Book Synopsis Divine Wrath in Paul by : Gerald L. Stevens
Download or read book Divine Wrath in Paul written by Gerald L. Stevens and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2020-12-22 with total page 290 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Divine wrath is considered politically incorrect for a God of love, but Stevens insists coming to terms with Paul’s language of wrath is imperative for understanding Paul’s gospel. Half of the occurrences of the two primary terms in the New Testament are in Paul. A survey focusing on the key terms for wrath in Greek, Roman, Hebrew, Samaritan, and New Testament literature provides background to see Pauline distinctives. Rich illustrations bring discussion to life drawn from decades of the author’s research overseas. Stevens challenges Dodd’s divine wrath as no more than an impersonal nexus of sin and retribution by integrating wrath into a theology of grace through which God always and in everything is seeking to save.
Book Synopsis Memoirs of Lorenzo Da Ponte by : Lorenzo Da Ponte
Download or read book Memoirs of Lorenzo Da Ponte written by Lorenzo Da Ponte and published by New York Review of Books. This book was released on 2000-05-31 with total page 516 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Plot and counterplot lie at the heart of Don Giovanni, Così fan tutte, and The Marriage of Figaro, the three brilliant libretti that Lorenzo Da Ponte prepared for Mozart. They were also central to Da Ponte's own extraordinary life. His Memoirs record a fantastic variety of romantic, political, and professional intrigues, and tell of meetings with a host of remarkable men. In a life that took him from the canals of Venice to the streets of New York, Da Ponte was at different times priest, professional gambler, proprietor of a bordello, political agitator, court poet, impresario, grocery store owner, and the first professor of Italian literature at Columbia University. His Memoirs, a minor classic of Italian literature, are the picaresque and engrossing story of a man of enormous talent and unsurpassed flair who was, above all, an indefatigable survivor. "I shall speak of things . . . so singular in their oddity as in some manner to instruct, or at least entertain, without wearying." —Lorenzo da Ponte

Book Synopsis Shhh! Can You Hear Him? by : Dr. Sandra Hayes, PhD
Download or read book Shhh! Can You Hear Him? written by Dr. Sandra Hayes, PhD and published by Christian Faith Publishing, Inc.. This book was released on 2023-08-05 with total page 181 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The enemy cannot stop destiny. As a young girl in Meggett, South Carolina (twenty miles south of Charleston), Sandra Magwood grew up very poor in a quaint, little four-room home with nine other children; she did not know they were poor. Although she was taught about Jesus, she was ashamed to say his name. She had no idea how significant her reliance was upon him as sovereign would save her life and guide her into her destiny, which far exceeded anything she ever imagined. Those who prophesied into her life about God planted seeds in her heart that were nurtured and watered for harvest at the appointed time of its manifestation. For years, she ran from any reminders of who God was and what he could do. Her ignorance beforehand did not stop her destiny and God’s plans for her. At every stumbling block in her life, she was met with a ram in the bush for deliverance. Unbeknown to her, she was in a preparatory phase, as she ran more into his presence, diligently seeking his will and ways well before her challenges. She was kept through an open-heart surgery, major emergency surgery, broken heart, military sexual trauma, and through a crippling unforgiving spirit. She always knew she would become an author confirmed by God and by so many who prophesied from her testimonials and encouraged her to write books. She knows what a broken spirit feels like, and one of her greatest joys is to encourage and uplift others. She writes about truth, family, faith, hope, forgiveness, and humor when humor is fitting. Shhh! Can You Hear Him? is divinely written, divinely motivated, divinely encouraged, and divinely inspired by and through God. God poured into her over the decades, and she pours into others while giving God all the praise, glory, and honor that he rightfully deserves.

This book was released on 2008-07 with total page 203 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a compilation (2nd ed.-2012) of at least 750 evidences from my Aramaic-English Interlinear New Testament supporting an Aramaic original behind a Greek translation of the NT (Peshitta).I have illustrated many of the examples in the Peshitta and Greek NT's using Dead Sea Scroll script Aramaic letters and Greek letters. Other examples include historical and grammatical errors in the Greek New Testament, which are not found in the Peshitta, demonstrating that The Peshitta-Peshitto Aramaic New Testament is the original text behind The Greek New Testament. There are examples drawn from 26 New Testament books-except Jude. The Aramaic edition I use and present in my interlinear is the Syriac New Testament of The 1979 UBS Syriac Bible. It is a critical edition based on several critical editions:one of the Gospels, by Gwilliam & Pusey (1901) , Gwilliams' 1920 edition of Acts and Paul's Epistles and a 1920 edition of John Gwynn's critical ed. of The Catholic Epistles and Revelation.200 pages- 8x11 B&W Paperback
Download or read book Rebel Barons written by Luke Sunderland and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2017-08-24 with total page 320 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ambivalence towards kings, and other sovereign powers, is deep-seated in medieval culture: sovereigns might provide justice, but were always potential tyrants, who usurped power and 'stole' through taxation. Rebel Barons writes the history of this ambivalence, which was especially acute in England, France, and Italy in the twelfth to fifteenth centuries, when the modern ideology of sovereignty, arguing for monopolies on justice and the legitimate use of violence, was developed. Sovereign powers asserted themselves militarily and economically provoking complex phenomena of resistance by aristocrats. This volume argues that the chansons de geste, the key genre for disseminating models of violent noble opposition to sovereigns, offer a powerful way of understanding acts of resistance. Traditionally seen as France's epic literary monuments - the Chanson de Roland is often presented as foundational of French literature - chansons de geste in fact come from areas antagonistic to France, such as Burgundy, England, Flanders, Occitania, and Italy, where they were reworked repeatedly from the twelfth century to the fifteenth and recast into prose and chronicle forms. Rebel baron narratives were the principal vehicle for aristocratic concerns about tyranny, for models of violent opposition to sovereigns and for fantasies of escape from the Carolingian world via crusade and Oriental adventures. Rebel Barons reads this corpus across its full range of historical and geographical relevance, and through changes in form, as well as placing it in dialogue with medieval political theory, to bring out the contributions of literary texts to political debates. Revealing the widespread and long-lived importance of these anti-royalist works supporting regional aristocratic rights to feud and revolt, Rebel Barons reshapes our knowledge of reactions to changing political realities at a crux period in European history.
