Book Synopsis The Earthwise Herbal Repertory by : Matthew Wood
Download or read book The Earthwise Herbal Repertory written by Matthew Wood and published by North Atlantic Books. This book was released on 2016-11-01 with total page 449 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Discover the healing applications of a wide variety of medicinal plants with this first comprehensive herbal repertory from an internationally known herbalist Expert herbalist Matthew Wood takes the guesswork out of the application of medicinal plants. Here, he provides an invaluable cross-reference of constitutional types, energetic categories, and specific systems—so herbalists can more easily identify the right remedies for a specific condition. Unlike many reference books in which medicinal plants are defined simply by condition or disease name, this book offers tools for differentiating between remedies and analyzing each case in a holistic fashion. While this system of cross-referencing is well known to homeopaths, it is less frequently used by herbalists. The Earthwise Herbal Repertory seeks to bridge the gap between different healing systems, incorporating knowledge from ancient Greek and traditional Native American medicine, nineteenth-century botanical medicine, homeopathy, and modern biomedical research. This definitive repertory proves useful for homeopaths and herbalists, professionals and home practitioners alike.

Book Synopsis Weaving Self-Evidence by : Claude Rosental
Download or read book Weaving Self-Evidence written by Claude Rosental and published by Princeton University Press. This book was released on 2021-03-09 with total page 308 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The development of theorems in logic is generally thought to be a solitary and purely cerebral activity, and therefore unobservable by sociologists. In Weaving Self-Evidence, French sociologist Claude Rosental challenges this notion by tracing the history of one well-known recent example in the field of artificial intelligence--a theorem on the foundations of fuzzy logic. Rosental's analyses disclose the inherently social nature of the process by which propositions in logic are produced, disseminated, and established as truths. Rosental describes the different phases of the emergence of the theorem on fuzzy logic, from its earliest drafts through its publication and diffusion, discussion and reformulation, and eventual acceptance by the scientific community. Through observations made at major universities and scholarly conferences, and in electronic forums, he looks at the ways students are trained in symbolic manipulations and formal languages and examines how researchers work, interact, and debate emerging new ideas. By carefully analyzing the concrete mechanisms that lead to the collective development and corroboration of proofs, Rosental shows how a logical discovery and its recognition within the scholarly community are by no means the product of any one individual working in isolation, but rather a social process that can be observed and studied. Weaving Self-Evidence will interest students and researchers in sociology and the history and philosophy of science and technology, and anyone curious about how scientists work.

Book Synopsis Understanding Politics and Society by : Fabio de Nardis
Download or read book Understanding Politics and Society written by Fabio de Nardis and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-03-26 with total page 471 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This textbook presents political sociology as a connective social science that studies political phenomena by creating fruitful connections with other perspectives. The relationship between politics and society is more complex than ever due to the emergence of new power structures, forms of conflict organization and management, and social practices of political participation. Several scholars describe this historical phase as the 'de-politicization of representative politics'. The book addresses classical themes of and approaches to political sociology, but also dedicates several chapters to contemporary developments within political sociology, including, for instance, the role of the internet and bottom-up political communication in social movements. In addition, the volume acts as a professional tool for those scholars and researchers that are beginning to study political processes from a sociological perspective.
Book Synopsis Evolution of Homoeopathic Repertories and Repertorisation by : Jugal Kishore
Download or read book Evolution of Homoeopathic Repertories and Repertorisation written by Jugal Kishore and published by B Jain Publishers Pvt Limited. This book was released on 2010-12-01 with total page 430 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Dr Kishore explains how the repertory evolved, starting with Hahnemann, through Boenninghausen and eventually to Kent. Each repertory is based on a conception as to how to approach a case and to use each repertory with skill it is necessary to know the thinking behind it. This book compares the repertories showing both similarity and differences between the major approaches. The book is a compilation of the history of the birth, growth and development of various homoeopathic repertories. There is detailed mentioning of lesser known repertories and some of the older repertories which are not accessible to most of us for, eg: Jahr's New manual of Symptomencodex; Alien's General Symptom Register of Homoeopathic Materia Medica; Field's Card Repertory, etc. The author has given several illustrative examples from his own experience or from our old masters at various places. The author has critically analysed the Boeninghausen's and the Kent's Repertory and has highlighted many shortcomings. He has made various suggestions to improve our repertories. In addition there is a very thoughtful discussion of case taking and evaluation of symptoms. A major part of the book is case examples using the different repertories and illustrating the approach used with each one. This book would be of great value to every homeopath. Features: Elaborate discussion on the birth, growth and development of various repertories; Enumeration and comparison of various repertories; Guidance for proper case taking, evaluation of symptoms and different ways of analysis of the indicated remedies; Reportorial analysis with case demonstrations.
