Book Synopsis Fluid Structure Interaction II by : Hans-Joachim Bungartz
Download or read book Fluid Structure Interaction II written by Hans-Joachim Bungartz and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2010-09-28 with total page 430 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fluid-structure interactions (FSI), i.e., the interplay of some moveable or deformable structure with an internal or surrounding fluid, are among the most widespread and most challenging coupled or multi-physics problems. Although much has been accomplished in developing good computational FSI methods and despite convincing solutions to a number of classes of problems including those presented in this book, there is a need for more comprehensive studies showing that the computational methods proposed are reliable, robust, and efficient beyond the classes of problems they have successfully been applied to.This volume of LNCSE, a sequel to vol. 53, which contained, among others, the first numerical benchmark for FSI problems and has received considerable attention since then, presents a collection of papers from the "First International Workshop on Computational Engineering - special focus FSI," held in Herrsching in October 2009 and organized by three DFG-funded consortia. The papers address all relevant aspects of FSI simulation and discuss FSI from the mathematical, informatical, and engineering perspective.

Book Synopsis Computational Aerodynamic Modeling of Aerospace Vehicles by : Mehdi Ghoreyshi
Download or read book Computational Aerodynamic Modeling of Aerospace Vehicles written by Mehdi Ghoreyshi and published by MDPI. This book was released on 2019-03-08 with total page 294 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Currently, the use of computational fluid dynamics (CFD) solutions is considered as the state-of-the-art in the modeling of unsteady nonlinear flow physics and offers an early and improved understanding of air vehicle aerodynamics and stability and control characteristics. This Special Issue covers recent computational efforts on simulation of aerospace vehicles including fighter aircraft, rotorcraft, propeller driven vehicles, unmanned vehicle, projectiles, and air drop configurations. The complex flow physics of these configurations pose significant challenges in CFD modeling. Some of these challenges include prediction of vortical flows and shock waves, rapid maneuvering aircraft with fast moving control surfaces, and interactions between propellers and wing, fluid and structure, boundary layer and shock waves. Additional topic of interest in this Special Issue is the use of CFD tools in aircraft design and flight mechanics. The problem with these applications is the computational cost involved, particularly if this is viewed as a brute-force calculation of vehicle’s aerodynamics through its flight envelope. To make progress in routinely using of CFD in aircraft design, methods based on sampling, model updating and system identification should be considered.
Book Synopsis Arbitrary Lagrangian Eulerian and Fluid-Structure Interaction by : M'hamed Souli
Download or read book Arbitrary Lagrangian Eulerian and Fluid-Structure Interaction written by M'hamed Souli and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2013-03-01 with total page 189 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides the fundamental basics for solving fluid structure interaction problems, and describes different algorithms and numerical methods used to solve problems where fluid and structure can be weakly or strongly coupled. These approaches are illustrated with examples arising from industrial or academic applications. Each of these approaches has its own performance and limitations. The added mass technique is described first. Following this, for general coupling problems involving large deformation of the structure, the Navier-Stokes equations need to be solved in a moving mesh using an ALE formulation. The main aspects of the fluid structure coupling are then developed. The first and by far simplest coupling method is explicit partitioned coupling. In order to preserve the flexibility and modularity that are inherent in the partitioned coupling, we also describe the implicit partitioned coupling using an iterative process. In order to reduce computational time for large-scale problems, an introduction to the Proper Orthogonal Decomposition (POD) technique applied to FSI problems is also presented. To extend the application of coupling problems, mathematical descriptions and numerical simulations of multiphase problems using level set techniques for interface tracking are presented and illustrated using specific coupling problems. Given the book's comprehensive coverage, engineers, graduate students and researchers involved in the simulation of practical fluid structure interaction problems will find this book extremely useful.

This book was released on 2008-12-16 with total page 359 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book contains 23 papers presented at the ECCOMAS Multidisciplinary Jubilee Symposium - New Computational Challenges in Materials, Structures, and Fluids (EMJS08), in Vienna, February 18–20, 2008. The main intention of EMJS08 was to react adequately to the increasing need for interdisciplinary research activities allowing ef?cient solution of complex problems in engineering and in the applied sciences. The 15th anniversary of ECCOMAS (European Community on Computational Methods in Applied Sciences) provided a suitable frame for taking the afo- mentioned situation into account by inviting distinguished colleagues from d- ferent areas of engineering and the applied sciences, encouraging them to choose multidisciplinary topics for their lectures. The main themes of EMJS08 have a long tradition in engineering and in the applied sciences: materials, structures, and ?uids. The solution of scienti?c pr- lems involving ?uids together with solids and structures, not to forget the materials the structures are made of, is of paramount importance in a technical world of rapidly increasing sophistication, referred to as the Leonardo World by the eminent German philosopher Ju ̈rgen Mittelstraß. More recently, the main themes of EMJS08 have gained considerable mom- tum, owing to signi?cant progress in nanotechnology. It enables resolution of a multitude of materials into their micro- and nanostructures. Covering aspects such as • Physical and chemical characterization • Multiscale modeling concepts, continuum micromechanics, and computational homogenization, as well as • Applications in various engineering ?elds the individual contributions to this book ?ow along different tracks of ?uids, materials, and structures.
