Download or read book Handbook of Research on the Impacts, Challenges, and Policy Responses to Overtourism written by Ribeiro de Almeida, Cláudia and published by IGI Global. This book was released on 2020-02-28 with total page 447 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In recent years, the increasing number of tourists traveling to specific urban and resort destinations has caused challenges for the effective management of tourism in these areas, with a resulting negative impact on towns, cities, and host communities. Such issues have included placing undue pressure on infrastructure; destruction of the physical, economic, and socio-cultural environment; and affecting the quality of residents’ daily lives by impacting their mobility and, in some cases, the price and rent of resident accommodation, goods, and services. To achieve a certain level of balance between the interests of local residents and visitors, new regulatory measures and legislation in high tourism areas must be discussed. TheHandbook of Research on the Impacts, Challenges, and Policy Responses to Overtourism is a collection of innovative research on best practices and legislation solutions for the management of tourism destinations suffering from overtourism, tourismophobia, or antitourism movement issues. While highlighting topics including overcrowding, social displacement, and tourism management, this book is ideally designed for local government officials, policymakers, lawmakers, researchers, entrepreneurs, industry professionals, travel agencies, hotels, academicians, and students seeking current innovative empirical research on destination-management practices and application techniques.

Book Synopsis Sustainable Development by : Chaouki Ghenai
Download or read book Sustainable Development written by Chaouki Ghenai and published by BoD – Books on Demand. This book was released on 2012-02-24 with total page 494 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The technological advancement of our civilization has created a consumer society expanding faster than the planet's resources allow, with our resource and energy needs rising exponentially in the past century. Securing the future of the human race will require an improved understanding of the environment as well as of technological solutions, mindsets and behaviors in line with modes of development that the ecosphere of our planet can support. Sustainable development offers an approach that would be practical to fuse with the managerial strategies and assessment tools for policy and decision makers at the regional planning level.
Book Synopsis Planificación y gestión sostenible del turismo by : Jesús Rivas García
Download or read book Planificación y gestión sostenible del turismo written by Jesús Rivas García and published by Septem Ediciones. This book was released on with total page 226 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.
Book Synopsis Coastal Mass Tourism by : Bill Bramwell
Download or read book Coastal Mass Tourism written by Bill Bramwell and published by Channel View Publications. This book was released on 2004-02-05 with total page 380 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Mediterranean coastal regions of Southern Europe have long been world leaders in mass tourism. This book examines some key questions for tourism development in these areas, with implications for similar regions across the world. The standardised forms of mass tourism are diversifying – with more specialised forms, notably those based on nature, culture and heritage, and those catering for special interests. There is a growing spectrum of modes of tourism, with an emphasis on variety, flexibility and permeability. Both mass tourism and the more diversified forms substantially impact on sustainable development. Policies promoting sustainable development are often of two main types: developing smaller-scale, alternative tourism products that are intended to be less damaging to the environment and society, and secondly, attempts to make mass tourism coastal resorts more sustainable. But there has been little critical assessment of these policies, either evaluating their basic assumptions or their successes and failures in practice. This edited book critically examines these issues for varied coastal regions in Southern Europe, including case studies from Spain, Croatia, Turkey, and north and south Cyprus.
Book Synopsis Tourism Quality Management by : Magdalena Kachniewska
Download or read book Tourism Quality Management written by Magdalena Kachniewska and published by . This book was released on 2017 with total page 241 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Tourism Quality Management handbook contains some basic issues connected with the problem of quality management both in the tourism enterprise and tourism destination area (TDA). Quality in tourism is measured by the quality of tourism experience. In other words, it is nothing else but the quality of life during the person's temporary stay outside his/her permanent residence. What is also true is that tourism, especially leisure or holiday tourism, carries the expectation of a higher quality of life than experienced at home. It seems to be the most important reason for quality management in tourism organizations and TDA.

Book Synopsis Accessible Tourism by : Dimitrios Buhalis
Download or read book Accessible Tourism written by Dimitrios Buhalis and published by Channel View Publications. This book was released on 2011 with total page 337 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Inclusion, disability, an ageing population and tourism are increasingly important areas of study due to their implications for both tourism demand and supply. This book therefore sets out to explore and document the current theoretical approaches, foundations and issues in the study of accessible tourism. In drawing together the contributions to this volume the editors have applied broader social constructionist approaches to understanding the accessible tourism phenomena. Accessible tourism, as with any area of academic study is an evolving field of academic research and industry practice. As with other areas of tourism, the field is multidisciplinary, and is influenced by various disciplines including geography, disability studies, economics, public policy, psychology and marketing. "As one would expect from two scholars at the height of their academic abilities, Dimitrios Buhalis and Simon Darcy have delivered a timely and much needed contribution to the under-served area of accessible tourism. Harnessing the best conceptual developments on the topic, Accessible Tourism is a scholarly yet hugely readable collection and readily communicates the various contributors' passion for and command of their subject. This collection is a must have text for anyone engaged in the theory, practice and policy of accessible tourism and will be essential reading on undergraduate and postgraduate courses across a range of disciplines and fields. I cannot speak highly enough of this endeavour and I'm sure it will take accessible tourism and universal design debates into the mainstream of academic enquiry and industry practice." Book excerpt: The 2010 edition of the Global Education Digest focuses on gender and education to mark the 15th anniversary of the Fourth World Conference on Women. Shortly after this landmark conference in 1995, the international community pledged to eliminate gender disparities at all levels of education by 2015 as part of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). As the official source of data to monitor advancement towards these goals, the UIS has released the Digest on the eve of the UN Millennium Summit (New York, 20-22 September) to present the latest available data to analyse national progress and pitfalls in offering every child and young person equal access to education regardless of their sex. According to the Digest, boys and girls in only 85 countries will have equal access to primary and secondary education by 2015, if present trends continue. Seventy-two countries are not likely to reach the goal - among which, 63 are far from reaching parity at the secondary level.

Book Synopsis Cradle to Cradle by : William McDonough
Download or read book Cradle to Cradle written by William McDonough and published by North Point Press. This book was released on 2010-03-01 with total page 207 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A manifesto for a radically different philosophy and practice of manufacture and environmentalism "Reduce, reuse, recycle" urge environmentalists; in other words, do more with less in order to minimize damage. But as this provocative, visionary book argues, this approach perpetuates a one-way, "cradle to grave" manufacturing model that dates to the Industrial Revolution and casts off as much as 90 percent of the materials it uses as waste, much of it toxic. Why not challenge the notion that human industry must inevitably damage the natural world? In fact, why not take nature itself as our model? A tree produces thousands of blossoms in order to create another tree, yet we do not consider its abundance wasteful but safe, beautiful, and highly effective; hence, "waste equals food" is the first principle the book sets forth. Products might be designed so that, after their useful life, they provide nourishment for something new-either as "biological nutrients" that safely re-enter the environment or as "technical nutrients" that circulate within closed-loop industrial cycles, without being "downcycled" into low-grade uses (as most "recyclables" now are). Elaborating their principles from experience (re)designing everything from carpeting to corporate campuses, William McDonough and Michael Braungart make an exciting and viable case for change.

Book Synopsis Sustainable Tourism? by : Gerda K. Priestley
Download or read book Sustainable Tourism? written by Gerda K. Priestley and published by . This book was released on 1996 with total page 232 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Although widely advocated, sustainable tourism is subject to numerous interpretations -- from environmentally friendly forms of tourism to maintaining the economic viability of tourist activity in a specific place. This book explores various views on sustainable tourism and demonstrates its complexity and diversity, in order to clarify the issues in operational terms. It addresses questions such as: can tourist activity be sustainable economically; can tourism lead to sustainability from an environmental perspective; and what is the role of tourism as a sustainable development strategy? Much of the book consists of a series of European case studies, from the U.K., France, Spain, Italy and Greece. These case studies cover three main themes: recreation and tourism in natural and rural areas; coastal tourism; and islands. The book represents a valuable supplementary text for students of tourism, as well as related disciplines such as geography, economics, environmental management, and local and regional planning and development.
