Christopher Hall takes us back to that time, conversing with Christian leaders around the ancient Mediterranean world and exploring how this cloud of witnesses challenges us to live an ethical life as a Christ follower.

This book was released on with total page 471 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Dr. Albert G. Mackey appears as author of this " Encyclopedia of Freemasonry and its Kindred Sciences," which, being a library in inself, superseded most of the Masonic works which have been tolerated by the craft — chiefly because none better could be obtained. Here is a work which fulfils the hope which sustained the author through ten years' literary labor, that, under one cover he "would furnish every Mason who might consult its pages the means of acquiring a knowledge of all matters connected with the science, the philosophy, and the history of his order." Up to the present time the modern literature of Freemasonry has been diffuse, lumbering, unreliable, and, out of all reasonable proportions. There is, in Mackey's "Encyclopaedia of Masonry," well digested, well arranged, and confined within reasonable limits, all that a Mason can desire to find in a book exclusively devoted to the history, the arts, science, and literature of Masonry. This is volume two out of four and covering the letters D to L.

This book was released on 2014-11-23 with total page 163 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This edition of Ramakatha Rasavahini improves on the previous edition. Grammatical errors and typos have been corrected, and some sentences have been rewritten to smooth and clarify the presentation —of course, without disturbing the meaning. Long paragraphs have been split in two to provide easier reading. Sanskrit words have been replaced by English equivalents, to make the text accessible to readers who do not know Sanskrit. The accuracy of the text has been maintained by putting Sanskrit words in parentheses, after their English translations. Several Sanskrit words have made their way into the English language and can be found in most dictionaries —e.g. dharma, guru, yoga, and moksha. These words are mostly used without translation, although their meanings appear in the glossary at the end of the book. Besides definition of Sanskrit words used in this book, the glossary contains descriptions of the people and places mentioned. This edition is being brought out in ebook form, for tablets such as the Kindle, Ipad, and Nook. Clicking on most Sanskrit words, people, and places will take you right to the glossary, where you can find the meaning. A back-button will be available in your reader to take you back to where you were reading. And on these tablets, you generally get to choose a font and font size that suits you. With these changes, we hope that the revised Ramakatha Rasavahini will be of great benefit to earnest seekers in the spiritual realm. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This second volume contains Perkins’s Commentary on Galatians . Perkins preached on Galatians each Lord’s Day for over three years. Ralph Cudworth obtained Perkins’s handwritten notes and edited them for publication. Because Perkins did not complete the commentary, Cudworth supplemented the manuscript with his own comments on chapter 6. This commentary of Perkins and Cudworth on Galatians first appeared in print in 1604, two years after Perkins’s death. Perkins’s other writings had already begun to be gathered and published. When the three-volume edition of his collected works first appeared, Galatians occupied over 320 large folio pages in the second volume (1609). It continued to appear as a part of several editions of the Works through their final 1635 reprint. Evidently, interest in the commentary warranted its publication again as a separate volume in 1617. Following the model taught in his treatise The Art of Prophesying , Perkins’s pattern in commenting on Galatians is to explain the text, deduce a few points of doctrine from it, answer objections raised against the doctrine, and then give practical uses of what the passage teaches.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Yale Classics (Vol. 2) stands as a monumental achievement in the compilation of classical texts, offering readers an unparalleled journey through the richness and diversity of ancient literary landscapes. This volume weaves together the works of celebrated authors and thinkers, including philosophers, poets, historians, and statesmen, showcasing a breathtaking array of styles - from the epic poetry of Virgil to the sharp satires of Juvenal, and the profound philosophical treatises of Seneca and Boethius. The anthology distinctively captures the thematic essence of human experience, power, morality, and the complexities of life and governance, revealing the timeless nature of these ancient writings. The inclusion of less commonly anthologized pieces alongside famed texts allows for a deeper appreciation of the vast literary heritage and the intellectual milestones of the ancient world. The contributing authors and editors, drawn from a spectrum of periods covering the Roman Republic through to the late antique era, bring to the collection a multilayered perspective on the socio-political and cultural evolutions of their times. This ensemble, with its roots in pivotal historical and cultural movements, offers insight into the genesis of Western literary and philosophical thought. The varied backgrounds of these authors, from statesmen like Julius Caesar and Augustus to philosophers like Saint Augustine of Hippo, enrich the anthology with a breadth of experience and wisdom, elucidating the interconnectedness of political action, philosophical inquiry, and artistic expression in shaping the human condition. Yale Classics (Vol. 2) is an indispensable resource for scholars, students, and lovers of classical literature alike. It stands not merely as a collection but as an invitation to engage with the foundational texts that have sculpted the contours of Western culture and thought. This volume offers a unique portal through which to explore a galaxy of literary and philosophical masterpieces, challenging readers to immerse themselves in the questions and ideals that have permeated millennia. Essential for anyone wishing to grasp the breadth of human intellect and emotion through the ages, it promises to foster a profound dialogue between past and present, guided by the illuminated minds of antiquity.

Jonah was an Old Testament prophet who tried to evade his divine commission to the wicked people of Nineveh by running away. We will discover in this devotional that in many ways we are just like Jonah. God had to use painful measures to bring him back to the path of obedience, and thus he was able to fulfill the divine commission. In this study we can learn to avoid the missteps of the prophet. 1 John on the other hand tells us how we can be effective disciples by walking in Gods light in this wicked world. Love is the key to life and this should be demonstrated in our daily walk. Failure to walk in love puts us in the category of those who murder and grope in the dark.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For years, William Gouge’s Domestical Duties has stood as the foremost Puritan treatment of Christian family life. Yet due to its size and antiquated expression, it has become almost unknown among current generations of believers. To help revive the usefulness of this classic book, Scott Brown and Joel R. Beeke divided Gouge’s work into three manageable volumes, updated the language to modern standards, and have given it the title Building a Godly Home . In the second volume, A Holy Vision for a Happy Marriage , we find detailed counsel about the most important relationship in the family—husband and wife. Gouge carefully addresses what a fit marriage is and the proper way to enter into one. He then discusses the mutual duties married couples share in order for marriage to survive and thrive, as well as the duties specific to men and women respectively. Not only does he give detailed treatment of how these responsibilities are best expressed and too often hindered, but he also provides ample biblical motivation to set us on the right course. Christian husbands and wives will find much encouragement in this book.
