Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Has pain prevented you from living joyfully today? Do you struggle with overcoming what happened in the past? Are you tired of constantly repeating the mistakes you swore you'd never make? It is possible to live an uncaged, freedom-infused life. Author and speaker Mary DeMuth has been in the cage, wallowed there. But God had other plans. He chose to set her free, and He longs to unlock your cage too. Based on a quote from Oswald Chambers, this book follows three stages of finding and creating an uncaged life. To let go. To give it to Jesus. To anticipate a new future. Through Biblical teaching, real life-in-the-trenches examples and an eye toward spiritual growth, Mary DeMuth helps you find the uncaged life you've always longed for." P.[4] of cover.
Download or read book Bird Uncaged written by Marlon Peterson and published by Bold Type Books. This book was released on 2021-04-13 with total page 191 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From a leading prison abolitionist, a moving memoir about coming of age in Brooklyn and surviving incarceration—and a call to break free from all the cages that confine us. Marlon Peterson grew up in 1980s Crown Heights, raised by Trinidadian immigrants. Amid the routine violence that shaped his neighborhood, Marlon became a high-achieving and devout child, the specter of the American dream opening up before him. But in the aftermath of immense trauma, he participated in a robbery that resulted in two murders. At nineteen, Peterson was charged and later convicted. He served ten long years in prison. While incarcerated, Peterson immersed himself in anti-violence activism, education, and prison abolition work. In Bird Uncaged, Peterson challenges the typical “redemption” narrative and our assumptions about justice. With vulnerability and insight, he uncovers the many cages—from the daily violence and trauma of poverty, to policing, to enforced masculinity, and the brutality of incarceration—created and maintained by American society. Bird Uncaged is a twenty-first-century abolitionist memoir, and a powerful debut that demands a shift from punishment to healing, an end to prisons, and a new vision of justice.
Download or read book Everything written by Mary E. DeMuth and published by Thomas Nelson Inc. This book was released on 2012 with total page 226 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "I don't write this book as a condemnation or as a sermon. The last thing I want to do is provide a 'how to be the best Christian in ten easy steps' guide. I pen these words as a fellow struggler who is learning that what we think about God matters, how we allow Him to reign in our hearts matters, and how we obey Him in the moment matters. It all matters. Everything." Author and speaker Mary DeMuth has been abused, foreclosed, abandoned, and betrayed. She has been pressed and drained till it was too much . . . But it was just enough to bring her to a place of surrender, piece by precious piece. In that surrender, she found the freedom of giving everything to God. And through Scripture, community, and the work of the Holy Spirit, she gives it all over again, every day. In this gentle and challenging book, DeMuth describes the process and the nuances that shape us to be more like Christ. Her words are clear, vulnerable, and thought provoking, and every chapter is infused with Scripture. Most of all, DeMuth provides personal and practical evidence that there is no greater pursuit than Christ. We must surrender everything, but it does not compare to the Everything He is, the Everything He gives.

Book Synopsis Forever Vigilant by : Graham Pitchfork
Download or read book Forever Vigilant written by Graham Pitchfork and published by Grub Street Publishing. This book was released on 2016-05-05 with total page 289 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 208 Squadron based at RAF Valley in Anglesey will be celebrating its 100th anniversary in October 2016, making it one of the few RAF squadrons to achieve this unique distinction whilst still part of the RAF’s current order of battle. To celebrate this achievement, Air Commodore Pitchfork has compiled a chronological history of the squadron’s main activities and personnel with the aim of illustrating the spirit, comradeship, and professionalism of the squadron. Taking its title from the squadron’s motto, ‘Vigilant’, the book starts with the formation of Naval 8 as a scout squadron on the Western Front during the First World War. It then continues through the various conflicts that Naval 8/208 Squadron has played a key role in, including the Second World War and Gulf War. The squadron’s move to Egypt in the inter-war years as an army cooperation squadron, which inspired the Gizah Sphinx motif for 208 Squadron, is also covered. Its modern-day role as an advanced flying training squadron concludes the squadron’s story. This history has been written with the use of important sources from the squadron’s archives, along with interviews from veterans and current members of the squadron. It also has the support of the squadron’s Old Comrade’s Association, which was pioneered and fostered by its first CO, Air Vice-Marshal Sir Geoffrey Bromet. The association is very active and one of the longest serving and strongest associations within the RAF.

Book excerpt: The End Is the Beginning opens with the tragedy and heartbreak suffered by the House of Nasor after winning a devastating war over Persia. The price of victory included the assassinations of the leaders of the Nasor clan, the husbands of Zenobia, and her cousin Kiah. Zenobia’s young son is the only remaining male of the Blood. She uses that to seize control, declaring herself regent and ruler over lands granted to her husband by the Roman Empire. Zenobia appoints Kiah as her counselor, but it quickly becomes clear that Zenobia’s plans are to end Roman rule and establish a new empire with herself as ruler. To make her dreams a reality, Zenobia makes treasonous moves, including usurping lands that have belonged to Rome for generations. Kiah counsels her cousin against such rash actions, knowing that Rome will retaliate with war. But confident in her ultimate success, Zenobia refuses to listen, until the day the new Roman Emperor Aurelian decides he has had enough. The result marks the end of an era and causes tragic consequences for the city known as The Bride of the Desert.
