Download or read book Hodge Podge written by Ken Layton and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2015-05-20 with total page 191 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: HODGE PODGE is an extension of my imagination. It is a collection of stories I made up to entertain my grandkids and to test my ability as a writer. Most of the plots are fairly simple, but I have tried to make them sensible and to follow an understandable pattern, although for the most part on re-reading, I have over-used a bloody finish for most of my characters. I hope I have made my descriptive passages descriptive and distortions of realities believable. When I first started writing prose, my intent was to see if I had the skills to do so. I went back into the notes and stories I had stored away (Im quite the pack rat) and found some that might be worked into a passable book. I put my poetry aside, (I had iUniverse publish Light Verse & Limericks) and decided that I had enough prose material to appease my ego. Thus, HODGE PODGE materialized to satisfy me so that I could leave something else to posterity in book form.
Download or read book Hodge written by Norman Abrahamson and published by . This book was released on 2017-03-01 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As a retired Professor of Literature, George Hodge knows that if life were art, his story would be over. He has outlived his wife, his children and finally his money. With little more than his wits, his thumb, and a resignation to serendipity, Hodge sets out on a journey of discovery. Along the way he acquires two travelling companions, a single mother and her precocious daughter who have reasons of their own for hitting the road. For three damaged individuals between the ages of ten and seventy-eight, the line between the American Dream and the American Nightmare is a delicate thread not easily seen until it breaks, and the difference between a tragic end and a new beginning is sometimes seen only in hindsight.

Download or read book The Cavern written by Alister Hodge and published by Severed Press. This book was released on 2019-04-13 with total page 184 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When a sink hole opens up near the Australian outback town of Pintalba, it uncovers a pristine cave system. Sam joins an expedition to explore the subterranean passages as paramedic support, hoping to remain unneeded at base camp. But, when one of the cavers is injured, he must overcome paralysing claustrophobia to dive pitch-black waters and squeeze through the bowels of the earth. Soon he will find there are fates worse than being buried alive, for in the abandoned mines and caves beneath Pintalba, there are ravenous teeth in the dark. As a savage predator targets the group with hideous ferocity, Sam and his friends must fight for their lives if they are ever to see the sun again. "The Cavern is a tense and compelling descent into subterranean horror, with characters you will care about in a setting unlike most fiction these days. I've never been a fan of caving, but having read this book, I'm staying above ground in the sunlight forever." - Alan Baxter, author of DEVOURING DARK and the ALEX CAINE SERIES
Download or read book Charles Hodge written by Paul C. Gutjahr and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2011-03-02 with total page 528 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Charles Hodge (1797-1878) was one of nineteenth-century America's leading theologians, owing in part to a lengthy teaching career, voluminous writings, and a faculty post at one of the nation's most influential schools, Princeton Theological Seminary. Surprisingly, the only biography of this towering figure was written by his son, just two years after his death. Paul C. Gutjahr's book is the first modern critical biography of a man some have called the "Pope of Presbyterianism." Hodge's legacy is especially important to American Presbyterians. His brand of theological conservatism became vital in the 1920s, as Princeton Seminary saw itself, and its denomination, split. The conservative wing held unswervingly to the Old School tradition championed by Hodge, and ultimately founded the breakaway Orthodox Presbyterian Church. The views that Hodge developed, refined, and propagated helped shape many of the central traditions of twentieth- and twenty-first-century American evangelicalism. Hodge helped establish a profound reliance on the Bible among Evangelicals, and he became one of the nation's most vocal proponents of biblical inerrancy. Gutjahr's study reveals the exceptional depth, breadth, and longevity of Hodge's theological influence and illuminates the varied and complex nature of conservative American Protestantism.
