Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Let us exchange congratulations on the enjoyments and the pros literary anniversary. The land we live in has no interest so dear, if it knew its want, as the fit consecration of days of reason and thought. Where there is no vision, the people perish. The scholars are the priests of that thought which establishes the foundations of the earth. No matter what is their special work or profession, they stand for the spiritual interest of the world, and it is a common calamity if they neglect their post in a country where the material interest is so predominant as it is in America.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Differentiated book- It has a historical context with research of the time-This book contains a historical context, which helps us understand this literary work. We must pay special attention to those events that especially influenced the world of culture and art and also to those events that were especially reflected in literature, in the life of its writer or that affected it. There are many examples in which historical events have shaped the content and forms of literature, as well as this has often been the best testimony to the importance of certain events throughout history. This context is formed by everything that, in some way, influences the event when it happens. A fact is always tied to its time: that is, to its period.Although there is a consensus among scholars regarding the establishment of an affiliation between Hume and experimental philosophy, important divergences prevail when determining the object of study of the "science of human nature," as well as establishing the reasons that legitimize the application of the experimental method to moral issues and the way in which it is carried out. We intend to clarify these three questions in order to specify in what sense Hume's experimentalism must be understood. Regarding the first, we maintain that the science of human nature not only includes the study of the mind, but also includes that of interaction within the framework of society throughout history.
Book Synopsis Essays in Religion and Morality by : William James
Download or read book Essays in Religion and Morality written by William James and published by Harvard University Press. This book was released on 1982 with total page 382 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Essays in Religion and Morality brings together a dozen papers of varying length to these two themes so crucial to the life and thought of William James. Reflections on the two subjects permeate, first, James's presentation of his father's Literary Remains; second, his writings on human immortality and the relation between reason and faith; third, his two memorial pieces, one on Robert Gould Shaw and the other on Emerson; fourth, his consideration of the energies and powers of human life; and last, his writings on the possibilities of peace, especially as found in his famous essay "The Moral Equivalent of War." These speeches and essays were written over a period of twenty-four years. The fact that James did not collect and publish them himself in a single volume does not reflect on their intrinsic worth or on their importance in James's philosophical work, since they include some of the best known and most influential of his writings. All the essays, throughout their varied subject matter, are consistently and characteristically Jamesian in the freshness of their attack on the problems and failings of humankind and in their steady faith in human powers.
