Book Synopsis Understanding Attitude in Intercultural Virtual Communication by : Ana Oskoz
Download or read book Understanding Attitude in Intercultural Virtual Communication written by Ana Oskoz and published by Equinox Publishing (UK). This book was released on 2020 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Virtual exchange has experienced a significant development over the last twenty years. Given its multiple benefits, this innovative pedagogy has attracted instructors and researchers from all over the world who are interested in integrating this practice into their classrooms. However, implementing virtual exchange is not without its challenges, and attaining sustained collaborative interaction remains one of those challenges. To support such interaction, interpersonal factors such as identity, rapport, and trust are essential. The development of these factors relies heavily on the participants' attitudes and how they choose to reflect them in their intercultural dialogue.Given the scarcity of studies that investigate the impact of students' attitudes and emotions in telecollaborative encounters, this volume aims to analyze the use of attitudinal resources in virtual interaction. By examining a range of educational settings, applying different theoretical approaches, presenting a variety of methodologies, and using different tools, the writers in this volume provide a rich picture of how participants can contribute to creating third spaces in which they feel safe exploring diversity and identity, and engaging with difference.By presenting different scenarios, technologies, and tasks, Understanding Attitude in Intercultural Virtual Communication provides insights into the factors that affect students' dynamics in these exchanges. These contributions will encourage readers to continue examining attitude in the ever-growing multimodal telecollaborative world.

Download or read book Evaluating Second Language Education written by J. Charles Alderson and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 1992-02-27 with total page 392 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Counter Responsibility for planning language teaching programs now carries with it a strong element of accountability. Evaluation of the whole process of course design, development, and implementation is therefore a necessary area of activity for course designers, language planners, and researchers. This book brings together accounts of recent work in this increasingly important field and will be a valuable resource both for those already engaged in evaluation and for those in training. Part One presents a review of the literature, covering past developments in the wider field of educational evaluation, as well as specifically in second language education. Part Two contains a series of eight original case-studies, written by scholars involved in evaluations in widely divergent settings. The focus in each case is on how the evaluator addresses the difficulties central to each study, and the findings are also included. The final Part Three provides practical guidance for evaluators, offering suggestions about how to set up and carry out evaluations in any given setting."--Publisher's website.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is an open access title available under the terms of a CC BY-NC-ND 4.0 International licence. It is free to read at Oxford Scholarship Online and offered as a free PDF download from OUP and selected open access locations. All over the world, economic inclusion has risen to the top of the development discourse. A well-performing education system is central to achieving inclusive development - but the challenge of improving educational outcomes has proven to be unexpectedly difficult. Access to education has increased, but quality remains low, with weaknesses in governance comprising an important part of the explanation. The Politics and Governance of Basic Education explores the balance between hierarchical and horizontal institutional arrangements for the public provision of basic education. Using the vivid example of South Africa, a country that had ambitious goals at the outset of its transition from apartheid to democracy, it explores how the interaction of politics and institutions affects educational outcomes. By examining lessons learned from how South Africa failed to achieve many of its goals, it constructs an innovative alternative strategy for making process, combining practical steps to achieve incremental gains to re-orient the system towards learning.
Book Synopsis The ‘Malleus Maleficarum‘ and the construction of witchcraft by : Hans Broedel
Download or read book The ‘Malleus Maleficarum‘ and the construction of witchcraft written by Hans Broedel and published by Manchester University Press. This book was released on 2013-07-19 with total page 224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This electronic version has been made available under a Creative Commons (BY-NC-ND) open access license. The Malleus is an important text and is frequently quoted by authors across a wide range of scholarly disciplines. Yet it also presents serious difficulties: it is difficult to understand out of context, and is not generally representative of late medieval learned thinking. This, the first book-length study of the original text in English, provides students and scholars with an introduction to this controversial work and to the conceptual word of its authors. Like all witch-theorists, Institoris and Sprenger constructed their witch out of a constellation of pre-existing popular beliefs and learned traditions. Therefore, to understand the Malleus, one must also understand the contemporary and subsequent debates over the reality and nature of witches. This book argues that although the Malleus was a highly idiosyncratic text, its arguments were powerfully compelling and therefore remained influential long after alternatives were forgotten. Consequently, although focused on a single text, this study has important implications for fifteenth-century witchcraft theory. This is a fascinating work on the Malleus Maleficarum and will be essential to students and academics of late medieval and early modern history, religion and witchcraft studies.
