Book Synopsis Methodological Developments in Data Linkage by : Katie Harron
Download or read book Methodological Developments in Data Linkage written by Katie Harron and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2015-09-22 with total page 288 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A comprehensive compilation of new developments in data linkage methodology The increasing availability of large administrative databases has led to a dramatic rise in the use of data linkage, yet the standard texts on linkage are still those which describe the seminal work from the 1950-60s, with some updates. Linkage and analysis of data across sources remains problematic due to lack of discriminatory and accurate identifiers, missing data and regulatory issues. Recent developments in data linkage methodology have concentrated on bias and analysis of linked data, novel approaches to organising relationships between databases and privacy-preserving linkage. Methodological Developments in Data Linkage brings together a collection of contributions from members of the international data linkage community, covering cutting edge methodology in this field. It presents opportunities and challenges provided by linkage of large and often complex datasets, including analysis problems, legal and security aspects, models for data access and the development of novel research areas. New methods for handling uncertainty in analysis of linked data, solutions for anonymised linkage and alternative models for data collection are also discussed. Key Features: Presents cutting edge methods for a topic of increasing importance to a wide range of research areas, with applications to data linkage systems internationally Covers the essential issues associated with data linkage today Includes examples based on real data linkage systems, highlighting the opportunities, successes and challenges that the increasing availability of linkage data provides Novel approach incorporates technical aspects of both linkage, management and analysis of linked data This book will be of core interest to academics, government employees, data holders, data managers, analysts and statisticians who use administrative data. It will also appeal to researchers in a variety of areas, including epidemiology, biostatistics, social statistics, informatics, policy and public health.

Book excerpt: Humanity is rebuilding a meritocratic civilization in other world, Huron, determined not to make the same mistakes that destroyed Earth. The rules of merit that guide civilization reward individual performance and talent, but also punish those whose "deficits" threaten the future of humankind. After a century of emigration from an all but spent Earth, millions of people remain behind, facing a protracted screening process for passage to Huron. The applicants face Huron's harshest judgments.Huronic University student Camille is struggling to save the people she loves - her brothers and her boyfriend - by helping to hide their deficits from the authorities. Her own heroic father, an emigration screener who spends much of his time on Earth, is her biggest obstacle. In both geography and conviction, they are worlds apart, and his staunch defense of a heartless regime is threatening to destroy their family. Critical of a radical movement, Camille gets caught up the burgeoning protests. She continues to try to keep her family relations friendly, but loses her resolve as she learns about the dark secrets her parents have been keeping from her.
Book Synopsis Geometric Design of Linkages by : J. Michael McCarthy
Download or read book Geometric Design of Linkages written by J. Michael McCarthy and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2010-11-11 with total page 466 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is an introduction to the mathematical theory of design for articulated mechanical systems known as linkages. The focus is on sizing mechanical constraints that guide the movement of a work piece, or end-effector, of the system. The function of the device is prescribed as a set of positions to be reachable by the end-effector; and the mechanical constraints are formed by joints that limit relative movement. The goal is to find all the devices that can achieve a specific task. Formulated in this way the design problem is purely geometric in character. Robot manipulators, walking machines, and mechanical hands are examples of articulated mechanical systems that rely on simple mechanical constraints to provide a complex workspace for the end- effector. The principles presented in this book form the foundation for a design theory for these devices. The emphasis, however, is on articulated systems with fewer degrees of freedom than that of the typical robotic system, and therefore, less complexity. This book will be useful to mathematics, engineering and computer science departments teaching courses on mathematical modeling of robotics and other articulated mechanical systems. This new edition includes research results of the past decade on the synthesis of multi loop planar and spherical linkages, and the use of homotopy methods and Clifford algebras in the synthesis of spatial serial chains. One new chapter on the synthesis of spatial serial chains introduces numerical homotopy and the linear product decomposition of polynomial systems. The second new chapter introduces the Clifford algebra formulation of the kinematics equations of serial chain robots. Examples are use throughout to demonstrate the theory.

Book Synopsis Linkage Power Europe by : Zhang Xiaotong
Download or read book Linkage Power Europe written by Zhang Xiaotong and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2023-04-20 with total page 272 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book looks at the history of the EU’s trade negotiations with China from 1975 to 2019 from a distinctive perspective – the EU as a linkage power. The author explains how the EU through linkage strategies speaks with one voice, overcomes its weakness in military capabilities and translates its non-military capabilities into advantages and influences in some specific policy areas. The book systematically traces the European negotiators’ tactics in managing the EU’s trade relations with China. It’s the first time that the history of EU–China trade negotiations is presented to the public by a seasoned trade negotiator. The author, combining the identities of a negotiator and a scholar, gives a panoramic view of EU–China trade relations from 1975, when the European Economic Community established diplomatic relations with China, to 2019 when the Juncker Commission leaves office. This book will appeal to policymakers, think-tankers, professors and students, as well as anyone who is interested in trade policies and negotiations in the EU and China. Book Synopsis Market Segmentation by : Michel Wedel
Download or read book Market Segmentation written by Michel Wedel and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2000 with total page 416 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Dividing customers into target groups has been a major part of marketing since the late 1950s, and Wedel (U. of Groningen, the Netherlands) and Wagner (U. of Iowa) review the foundations of the concept, then hone in on the finite mixture methodologies that are being found increasingly successful. They do discuss cluster analysis, historically the best known technique for market segmentation, but argue that finite mixture techniques are better because they are model based and allow for segmentation in a framework in which customer behavior is described by an appropriate statistical model that includes a mixture component. They mention no date for the first edition. Annotation copyrighted by Book News, Inc., Portland, OR
