Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: During the last ten years, our understanding of the perfect plasticity and the associated flow rule assumption on which limit analysis is based has increased considerably. Many extensions and advances have been made in applications of limit analysis to the area of soil dynamics, in particular, to earthquake-induced slope failure and landslide problems and to earthquake-induced lateral earth pressures on rigid retaining structures. The purpose of the book therefore is in part to discuss the validity of the upper bound work (or energy) method of limit analysis in a form that can be appreciated by a practicing soil engineer, and in part to provide a compact and up-to-date summary of recent advances in the applications of limit analysis to earthquake-induced stability problems in soil mechanics.

Book Synopsis Mathematical Modeling in Mechanics of Granular Materials by : Oxana Sadovskaya
Download or read book Mathematical Modeling in Mechanics of Granular Materials written by Oxana Sadovskaya and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-06-08 with total page 396 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This monograph contains original results in the field of mathematical and numerical modeling of mechanical behavior of granular materials and materials with different strengths. It proposes new models helping to define zones of the strain localization. The book shows how to analyze processes of the propagation of elastic and elastic-plastic waves in loosened materials, and constructs models of mixed type, describing the flow of granular materials in the presence of quasi-static deformation zones. In a last part, the book studies a numerical realization of the models on multiprocessor computer systems. The book is intended for scientific researchers, lecturers of universities, post-graduates and senior students, who specialize in the field of the deformable materials mechanics, mathematical modeling and adjacent fields of applied and calculus mathematics.

Download or read book Solid-solid Interactions - Proceedings Of The First Royal Society-unilever Indo-uk Forum In Materials Science And Engineering written by M J Adams and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1996-08-16 with total page 450 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book records the contributions of about 30 speakers who were invited to review a wide range of topics in the field of solid-solid interactions. Each chapter includes discussion points drawn from about 125 attendees at the forum. The first part of the book is concerned with short range interactions and includes chapters on contact mechanics, nano-indentation adhesion, friction, wear and grandular mechanics. The second part is concerned with long range forces and includes chapters on the direct measurement of these forces, including those that arise in lubricated contacts and their role in controlling the rheological properties of particulate suspensions.
Book Synopsis Mechanics Of Porous And Fractured Media by : V N Nikolaevskij
Download or read book Mechanics Of Porous And Fractured Media written by V N Nikolaevskij and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1990-08-30 with total page 491 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In a significantly revised English edition the text provides a solid course on mechanics of porous & fractured media (mainly of geomaterials). Part I focuses on the continuum theory of the dynamic fracture and deformation of bodies with complex rheology, including the dilatancy theory. Applications are connected with dynamics large scale processes, blast waves and with structure of the Earth's crust. Part II focuses on the effects of fluid saturation of pores and transfer phenomena. Applications are connected with seismic waves, oil and gascondensate recovery, explosion works, physico-chemical processes.

Book Synopsis Unsaturated Soil Mechanics in Engineering Practice by : Delwyn G. Fredlund
Download or read book Unsaturated Soil Mechanics in Engineering Practice written by Delwyn G. Fredlund and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2012-07-30 with total page 946 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The definitive guide to unsaturated soil— from the world's experts on the subject This book builds upon and substantially updates Fredlund and Rahardjo's publication, Soil Mechanics for Unsaturated Soils, the current standard in the field of unsaturated soils. It provides readers with more thorough coverage of the state of the art of unsaturated soil behavior and better reflects the manner in which practical unsaturated soil engineering problems are solved. Retaining the fundamental physics of unsaturated soil behavior presented in the earlier book, this new publication places greater emphasis on the importance of the "soil-water characteristic curve" in solving practical engineering problems, as well as the quantification of thermal and moisture boundary conditions based on the use of weather data. Topics covered include: Theory to Practice of Unsaturated Soil Mechanics Nature and Phase Properties of Unsaturated Soil State Variables for Unsaturated Soils Measurement and Estimation of State Variables Soil-Water Characteristic Curves for Unsaturated Soils Ground Surface Moisture Flux Boundary Conditions Theory of Water Flow through Unsaturated Soils Solving Saturated/Unsaturated Water Flow Problems Air Flow through Unsaturated Soils Heat Flow Analysis for Unsaturated Soils Shear Strength of Unsaturated Soils Shear Strength Applications in Plastic and Limit Equilibrium Stress-Deformation Analysis for Unsaturated Soils Solving Stress-Deformation Problems with Unsaturated Soils Compressibility and Pore Pressure Parameters Consolidation and Swelling Processes in Unsaturated Soils Unsaturated Soil Mechanics in Engineering Practice is essential reading for geotechnical engineers, civil engineers, and undergraduate- and graduate-level civil engineering students with a focus on soil mechanics.
