Book Synopsis Lights! Camera! Action and the Brain by : Maher Bahloul
Download or read book Lights! Camera! Action and the Brain written by Maher Bahloul and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2012-01-17 with total page 345 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Lights! Camera! Action and the brain: The Use of Film in Education is about an innovative pedagogy whereby performing arts and digital production play a key role in teaching and learning. The book combines theory and practice; as such, it lays solid neurological foundations for film and media literacy, and provides several relevant practical applications from worldwide scholars. The book contains thirteen chapters three of which address a number of theoretical issues related to the camera and the brain while the remaining ten are practical illustrations of the extent to which film and video are used as pedagogical tools. In the book preface, Nikos Theodosakis, author of ‘The Director in the Classroom’, writes that the book contributors ‘have built a wonderful bridge for us to travel over’. In fact, the book chapters transcend age restrictions to include diverse age groups, children and young adults. The topics range from learning language and philosophy to learning about one’s self, one’s environment, and one’s cultural identity. Much more importantly, the book addresses the needs of regular and special needs learners. Arts in general, and films in particular, are shown to display salient and dynamic roles in appealing to a wide variety of regular and special needs learners. In short, the book is highly beneficial to educators and to education managers; it ‘will have the power to change teaching and the way the curriculum is perceived’ for several generations to come.
Book Synopsis Lights! Camera! Action! by : Gregory G. Sarno
Download or read book Lights! Camera! Action! written by Gregory G. Sarno and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2005 with total page 451 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Action, action, yet more action. No action film worthy of genre would be caught dead without its fair share of red-hot lead and no-holds-barred fisticuffs, high-octane pursuits and gravity-defying gymnastics. Then again, nonstop action soon wears thin absent a rooting interest in Last Man Standing First Woman to Cross Finish Line. Rooting interest inheres not in overt action, no matter how artfully choreographed or breathtakingly executed. Rather, rooting interest comes from empathy for the protagonist and, more precisely, from the dramatic action embodied by the protagonist's struggle to accomplish a worthy goal opposed by a formidable foe. Action is a double-edged blade, overt action being a necessary but insufficient condition to sustain viewer interest, which soars and ebbs to extent that dramatic action intersects with-injects meaningfulness into-gunplay and fistfest, acrobatics and pyrotechnics. Lights! Camera! Action! spotlights the essential elements of action comedy, action romance, and action adventure. It underscores the crucial distinction between overt and dramatic action, which a screenwriter must weave together in order for an action script to hum and shimmer, pulsate and zing.

Book Synopsis Lights, Camera, Feminism? by : Samantha Majic
Download or read book Lights, Camera, Feminism? written by Samantha Majic and published by Univ of California Press. This book was released on 2023 with total page 311 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Celebrities in the United States have drawn significant attention and resources to the complex issue of human trafficking--a subject of feminist concern--and they are often criticized for promoting sensationalized and simplistic understandings of the issue. In this comprehensive analysis of celebrities' anti-trafficking activism, however, Samantha Majic finds that this phenomenon is more nuanced: even as some celebrities promote regressive issue narratives and carceral solutions, others use their platforms to elevate more diverse representations of human trafficking and feminist analyses of gender inequality. Lights, Camera, Feminism? thus argues that we should understand celebrities as multilevel political actors whose activism is shaped and mediated by a range of personal and contextual factors, with implications for feminist and democratic politics more broadly.
Book Synopsis Participatory Research with Young Children by : Angela Eckhoff
Download or read book Participatory Research with Young Children written by Angela Eckhoff and published by Springer. This book was released on 2019-08-06 with total page 207 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents a guiding framework for designing and supporting participatory research with young children. The volume shares detailed approaches to research designs that support collaborative work with young children and teachers in a wide range of early learning environments. It presents conceptual and ethical considerations for participatory work, and explores children’s agency through engagement in participatory practices. It examines challenges to accepted practices and understandings of young children, and discusses the analysis and dissemination of participatory work with children. In doing so, the book informs readers about the conceptual understandings and methodological approaches that can be used to support participatory research investigations where the young child is viewed as knowledgeable and capable of sharing unique opinions, interpretations, and understandings of her experiences as embedded within social, cultural, and political worlds. The book sets the stage for early childhood researchers and educators to develop new understandings grounded in post-developmental, critical, and social constructivist theories while exploring supportive methodological approaches.
Book Synopsis Power of the Light by : Bjorn Ortenheim
Download or read book Power of the Light written by Bjorn Ortenheim and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2001-09-17 with total page 198 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Caution! Reading this book in it's entirety may cause the following side effects: Surprise, Anger, Disbelief, and even Amusement. We begin by revealing the little known, inside workings of the pharmaceutical industry, based on the experiences of people who have worked there. Why do you think it is that your drugs cost so much? Is it because of all the high tech 'stuff' that goes into making it? Or is it something else that might shock or even anger you? What goes on behind the scenes often has nothing whatsoever to do with science. This leads to the second part which has to do with our health and the things you may not even realize are making us all sick. This is not just another 'eat right and exercise' book. You will discover information you have never heard before. There are even things that have been proven to harm you but have been covered up or ignored, and even encouraged, as long as there is money to be made. Do you like investigative reporting? Do you like history, or science fiction? Do you have a taste for the macabre? Are you concerned about declining health care, government and military cover ups, or the high cost of medicine? Written with some humor and at times a touch of sarcasm, there is a little bit of something here for everyone. You may or may not agree with some of the things in this book, but once you start reading it, your curiosity will make you want to pick it up again and again until you are finished.
Download or read book Eloquent Science written by David Schultz and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-01-16 with total page 422 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mary Grace Soccio. My writing could not please this kindhearted woman, no matter how hard I tried. Although Gifed and Talented seventh-grade math posed no problem for me, the same was not true for Mrs. Soccio’s English class. I was frustrated that my frst assignment only netted me a C. I worked harder, making re- sion afer revision, a concept I had never really put much faith in before. At last, I produced an essay that seemed the apex of what I was capable of wr- ing. Although the topic of that essay is now lost to my memory, the grade I received was not: a B?. “Te best I could do was a B??” Te realization sank in that maybe I was not such a good writer. In those days, my youthful hubris did not understand abouc t apacity bui- ing. In other words, being challenged would result in my intellectual growth— an academic restatement of Nietzsche’s “What does not destroy me, makes me stronger.” Consequently, I asked to be withdrawn from Gifed and Talented English in the eighth grade.
