Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Bible can be a difficult book to read because of an obscuring fog that overhangs much of the biblical text. Many would-be readers have begun with Genesis, but have soon given up the effort. They were confused, frustrated by their inability to follow and understand the narrative. This book is intended to help such readers as well as those thinking of undertaking the task for the first time. The author is a recognized anthropologist, an ex-Jesuit with a background in theological and biblical studies. He has spent considerable time living with non-literate populations. These experiences made him realize how much of the Bible is a product of non-literate cultures. These insights have been confirmed and expanded by archeological, historical, anthropological, and literary research. Seen from this perspective, most of the Bible consists of theological stories that were later committed to writing rather than a written document of narrative history directly dictated by God. In large part the biblical story is a Jewish Epic with its stages of blessing, tragedy and redemption. It highlights the role of the covenants and the prophets in providing the underlying theological structure of the entire Bible. A brief Introduction in Genesis and the Pauline letters extend the moral lesson of the Epic to all of humanity. The relationship between the literary and theological structures can be diagrammed on a chart that lays out a synthetic view of the entire Bible as well as an outline of this book. Driving in his yellow Thunderbird, he gets lost in the gray nothingness on his way to his friend's cabin at Lake Heed, and loses more than just his way. Lloyd Parker also has a problem. He is on the run from the police. In his flight from justice he encounters many new people who know nothing of his past. While battling his own demons, Lloyd's world suddenly collides with Edward's and both their destinies are changed forever. Only divine intervention and the power of love can rescue these two lost souls.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Hedgehog in the Fog is an international hit which has already been published in many languages. The book is based on Francesca Yarbusova's sketches to the award-winning animated film directed by Yuri Norstein. It is about the adventures of the philosophical little Hedgehog on his way to meet with his friend Bear. Along the way Hedgehog enters into a mysterious fog in which he encounters a horse, a dog, an owl, and a fish. In 2003, an international film jury in Tokyo declared Hedgehog in the Fog to be the best animated film of all time. "I've loved the films of Yuri Norstein for years now. I first saw Hedgehog in the Fog as a film student in the early 1980s and became instantly enchanted. Like many I was immediately drawn into his sensual world by the richness of the aural and visual landscapes he creates. Norstein's films are magical and atmospheric, lovingly and masterfully executed. His story-telling and illustration style is earthy and rich in symbols which are beautiful in themselves - but one senses there is a lot more hidden behind them." In this classic book, the late Professor Minnaert accompanies the reader on a tour of nature's light and color and reveals the myriad phenomena that may be observed outdoors with no more than a pair of eyes and an enquiring mind. From the intriguing shape of the dapples beneath a tree on a sunny day, via rainbows, mirages, and haloes, the colors of liquid, ice, and the sky, to the appearance of the sun, moon, planets, and stars - Minnaert describes and explains them all in a clear language accessible to laymen. This new English edition is supplemented by 80 plates, over half of them in color, taken by the acclaimed photographer Pekka Parviainen, illustrating many of the phenomena - ordinary and exotic - discussed in the book.
