Book excerpt: Colonial Chesapeake Families: British Origins and Descendants Harrison Dwight Cavanagh The first edition was awarded the Sumner A. Parker Prize by the Maryland Historical Society in 2014. The second edition of this work features all descendants of Thomas Gantt I (b. Bullwick, N. Hants; to Md. 1654; d. Calvert County, 1692) and Ann Fielder (b. ca. 1662 Hants; d. Prince Georges County, 1726) in the first six to ten generations. Ann Fielder is an important new addition to American colonial Gateway ancestors. Her parents, Capt. William Fielder (ca. 16201679) of Burrough Court Manor and Marjorie Cole (16281699) of Lyss Abbey, Hants, have proven multiple royal and Magna Carta ancestral lines; sixty extensive British pedigrees are documented in these volumes. The name Fielder has been inherited in multiple generations of the Beall, Belt, Berry, Bowie, Calvert, Clagett, Denwood, Dorsett, Gantt, Jones (Somerset County), Parker (Calvert County), Smallwood, Smith (Calvert County), and Wight (White) Maryland families. In addition, this second edition contains important new research findings on the British origins of the Hatton-Domville and Brooke-Darnall families, as well as revealing the two lost Ann Bradfords of Prince Georges County. Colonial Chesapeake Families details the pedigrees of eighty-eight families, historical illustrations, portraits, documents, and coats of arms (where proven) are included. The publication of these volumes has been subsidized to make them more widely available to the thousands of descendants listed in their pages. And thanks to print on demand, Colonial Chesapeake Families will never go out of print.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this revelatory and genuinely groundbreaking study, François Furstenberg sheds new light on the genesis of American identity. Immersing us in the publishing culture of the early nineteenth century, he shows us how the words of George Washington and others of his generation became America's sacred scripture and provided the foundation for a new civic culture, one whose reconciliation with slavery unleashed consequences that haunt us still. A dazzling work of scholarship from a brilliant young historian, In the Name of the Father is a major contribution to American social history.

It is highly unlikely that this would occur with one of our books. Our extensive quality control ensures that the readers of Trieste Publishing's books will be delighted with their purchase. Our staff has thoroughly reviewed every page of all the books in the collection, repairing, or if necessary, rejecting titles that are not of the highest quality. This process ensures that the reader of one of Trieste Publishing's titles receives a volume that faithfully reproduces the original, and to the maximum degree possible, gives them the experience of owning the original work.We pride ourselves on not only creating a pathway to an extensive reservoir of books of the finest quality, but also providing value to every one of our readers. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Benjamin Rush, William Paterson, David Ramsay, Oliver Ellsworth, Jonathan Edwards, Jr.—these are only a few of the remarkable men who attended the College of New Jersey (later Princeton University) in its first twenty-one classes. Alumni included five members of the Constitutional Convention of 1787, twenty two participants in the Continental Congress, four Senators, seven Congressmen, and two Justices of the Supreme Court. This volume describes the lives of the 338 men who graduated from the College between 1748 and 1768. Their biographies are arranged by year of graduation, and an introduction provides the early history of the College and its role in colonial culture. In sharp contrast to the graduates of other colleges at the time, Princeton's early students were either born or found their later careers in every one of the thirteen states as well as in Tennessee, Kentucky, the West Indies, and Ireland. After graduation most became clergymen, lawyers, doctors, businessmen, and soldiers. While some served as national leaders, others rose to prominence in state and local government, becoming governors, state legislators, and participants in the drafting of state constitutions. This record of their lives is a mine of information about America during the Colonial, Revolutionary, and Early National periods. Originally published in 1977. The Princeton Legacy Library uses the latest print-on-demand technology to again make available previously out-of-print books from the distinguished backlist of Princeton University Press. These editions preserve the original texts of these important books while presenting them in durable paperback and hardcover editions. The goal of the Princeton Legacy Library is to vastly increase access to the rich scholarly heritage found in the thousands of books published by Princeton University Press since its founding in 1905.
