These experiences brought about many questions as to why, as an African American, I was so restricted in many ways. I've spent my entire life trying to find the answer. As a child. I would ask adults "Why are we so disliked by White people", and they would just say "It's because you are Colored". To me, that was not a legitimate answer. So, I had to search for legitimate answers for myself, that prioritized the rest of my life. I discovered that it is impossible to understand your current status until you can learn your real history. This valet history will never be taught by your oppressor. We have to take it upon ourselves to conduct our own individual studies and research. Our history is so rich and profound that it must be hiddin from us. For, if and when we discover our true and unique history, can we finally be liberated. This liberation will allow us to look within ourselves to bring out our divine and enate abilities to create, innovate, and produce better than any people, in the history of mankind. Not just for the benefit of African descendants, but for the progression of mankind.

But during the first half century of motion pictures very few Americans would have thought to call an American movie "art." Up through the 1950s, American movies were regarded as a form of popular, even lower-class, entertainment. By the 1960s and 1970s, however, viewers were regularly judging Hollywood films by artistic criteria previously applied only to high art forms. In Hollywood Highbrow, Shyon Baumann for the first time tells how social and cultural forces radically changed the public's perceptions of American movies just as those forces were radically changing the movies themselves. The development in the United States of an appreciation of film as an art was, Baumann shows, the product of large changes in Hollywood and American society as a whole. Although Cedric J. Robinson popularized the term, racial capitalism has remained undertheorized for nearly four decades. Histories of Racial Capitalism brings together for the first time distinguished and rising scholars to consider the utility of the concept across historical settings. These scholars offer dynamic accounts of the relationship between social relations of exploitation and the racial terms through which they were organized, justified, and contested. Missing is a broader discourse of the African American community and the Mississippi River. Through the experiences of African Americans with the Mississippi River, which included narratives of labor (free and enslaved), refuge, floods, and migration, a different history of the river and its environs emerges. The book brings multiple perspectives together to explore this rich history of the Mississippi River through the intersection of race and class with the environment.
