Download or read book Higher Education System Reform written by and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2019-04-04 with total page 242 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Bologna Declaration started the development of the European Higher Education Area. The ensuing Bologna Process has run for already 20 years now. In the meantime many higher education systems in Europe have been reformed – some more drastically than others; some quicker than others; some with more resistance than others. In the process of reform the initial (six) goals have sometimes been forgotten or sometimes been taken a step further. The context too has shifted: while the European Union in itself has expanded, the voice for exit has also been heard more frequently. Higher Education System Reform: An international comparison after Twenty Years of Bologna critically describes and analyses 12 Higher Education Systems from the perspective of four major questions: What is currently the situation with regard to the six original goals of Bologna? What was the adopted path of reform? Which were the triggering (economic, social, political) factors for the reform in each specific country? What was the rationale/discourse used during the reform? The book comparatively analyses the different systems, their paths of reforms and trajectories, and the similarities and the differences between them. At the same time it critically assesses the current situation on higher education in Europe, and hints towards a future policy agenda. Contributors are: Tommaso Agasisti, Bruno Broucker, Martina Dal Molin, Kurt De Wit, Andrew Gibson, Ellen Hazelkorn, Gergely Kovats, Liudvika Leišytė, Lisa Lucas, António Magalhães, Sude Peksen, Rosalind Pritchard, Palle Rasmussen, Anna-Lena Rose, Christine Teelken, Eva M. de la Torre, Carmen Perez-Esparrells, Jani Ursin, Amélia Veiga, Jef C. Book Synopsis The Future of Management Education by : Stéphanie Dameron
Download or read book The Future of Management Education written by Stéphanie Dameron and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-01-25 with total page 426 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book discusses the new challenges facing Business Schools around the world with potential scenarios that may be envisioned for 2030 and strategies for stakeholders. Based on documented descriptions of competitive dynamics in the ‘business’ of business schools in a variety of countries, the authors highlight the fact that the ‘industry’ of management education is going through major changes such as new governance and business models, mergers and acquisitions, internationalization of faculty and students coexisting with entrenchment in local markets, ever more needs for financial resources, development of distant and blended learning, and increasing pressure for research output to boost rankings. With concerns surrounding the sustainability of current trends in faculty salary inflation, social acceptability of higher fees, cost of distance learning and the risk of an academic-industry divide around knowledge produced by management research, The Future of Management Education develops an analysis of business models and institution regulation. The two volumes cover the context of Business Schools in ten countries and grapples with the challenges they currently face. They specifically discuss foresight scenarios and strategic implications for stakeholders (Deans, faculty, students, prospective students, alumni, local businesses, corporations, government, accreditation bodies).

Book Synopsis Excellence in Teaching and Learning in Higher Education by : Isabel Huet
Download or read book Excellence in Teaching and Learning in Higher Education written by Isabel Huet and published by Imprensa da Universidade de Coimbra / Coimbra University Press. This book was released on 2021 with total page 352 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The initial ‘idea’ for the book emerged during the seminar Sharing of Innovative Pedagogical Practices that occurred at the University of Coimbra (Portugal) in 2018. Like all ‘good ideas’, this one originated in a conversation between colleagues from the University of Coimbra and the University of West London in the United Kingdom. The ‘idea’ of this book was to move away from sharing experiences related to teaching and learning in higher education in just one or two countries, but instead to organise a more European view about the policy, research and teaching practices that are shaping the way our students learn, academics teach and do research. We have a total of 16 chapters from academics in Portugal, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Sweden, the Netherlands, Spain, Italy, and the Czech Republic. The book is organised in four interrelated themes: (1) policy and quality; (2) professionalisation of teaching and academic development; (3) research and teaching nexus; and (4) pedagogy and practice. Enjoy reading the book!
Book Synopsis Women Build the Welfare State by : Donna J. Guy
Download or read book Women Build the Welfare State written by Donna J. Guy and published by Duke University Press. This book was released on 2009-01-16 with total page 266 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this pathbreaking history, Donna J. Guy shows how feminists, social workers, and female philanthropists contributed to the emergence of the Argentine welfare state through their advocacy of child welfare and family-law reform. From the creation of the government-subsidized Society of Beneficence in 1823, women were at the forefront of the child-focused philanthropic and municipal groups that proliferated first to address the impact of urbanization, European immigration, and high infant mortality rates, and later to meet the needs of wayward, abandoned, and delinquent children. Women staffed child-centered organizations that received subsidies from all levels of government. Their interest in children also led them into the battle for female suffrage and the campaign to promote the legal adoption of children. When Juan Perón expanded the welfare system during his presidency (1946–1955), he reorganized private charitable organizations that had, until then, often been led by elite and immigrant women. Drawing on extensive research in Argentine archives, Guy reveals significant continuities in Argentine history, including the rise of a liberal state that subsidized all kinds of women’s and religious groups. State and private welfare efforts became more organized in the 1930s and reached a pinnacle under Juan Perón, when men took over the welfare state and philanthropic and feminist women’s influence on child-welfare activities and policy declined. Comparing the rise of Argentina’s welfare state with the development of others around the world, Guy considers both why women’s child-welfare initiatives have not received more attention in historical accounts and whether the welfare state emerges from the top down or from the bottom up.

Download or read book Work's Intimacy written by Melissa Gregg and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2013-04-23 with total page 232 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides a long-overdue account of online technology and its impact on the work and lifestyles of professional employees. It moves between the offices and homes of workers in the knew "knowledge" economy to provide intimate insight into the personal, family, and wider social tensions emerging in today’s rapidly changing work environment. Drawing on her extensive research, Gregg shows that new media technologies encourage and exacerbate an older tendency among salaried professionals to put work at the heart of daily concerns, often at the expense of other sources of intimacy and fulfillment. New media technologies from mobile phones to laptops and tablet computers, have been marketed as devices that give us the freedom to work where we want, when we want, but little attention has been paid to the consequences of this shift, which has seen work move out of the office and into cafés, trains, living rooms, dining rooms, and bedrooms. This professional "presence bleed" leads to work concerns impinging on the personal lives of employees in new and unforseen ways. This groundbreaking book explores how aspiring and established professionals each try to cope with the unprecedented intimacy of technologically-mediated work, and how its seductions seem poised to triumph over the few remaining relationships that may stand in its way.
Book Synopsis Legislación universitaria by : VARIOS AUTORES
Download or read book Legislación universitaria written by VARIOS AUTORES and published by Tecnos Editorial S A. This book was released on 2008-06-17 with total page 1056 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.
