Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The basic aim of this special issue is to focus on the profound change of tendency in education that is taking place at both the national and interna tional level. At a time when education and lifelong learning are increasingly merging into one process, it is important to examine the ways in which edu cational policies and practices are evolving. Consequently, we invited a variety of contributors, both men and women, coming from different regions and encompassing both research and practice, to identify significant phenomena and trends that are indicative of the ways in which systems of education are responding to new social and cultural demands. We asked our contributors to show how educational reality in different countries is no longer confined within the temporal and spatial limits of institutional education, to indicate how models of educational practice are changing, to examine the extent to which the traditional cycles of human life are shifting their boundaries, and to describe how these changes are mani festing themselves in different national contexts in both South and North. We also asked our authors to pose questions raised by this educational revolution. We have included 17 contributions, some of the authors analysing par ticular national situations, others drawing questions and observations from their own experiences or taking a searching look at education from the perspective of a practical involvement in social iSl>ues or from a background of research into popular arts and traditions.

Book Synopsis Crisis, Globalization and Governance by : Nehme Azoury
Download or read book Crisis, Globalization and Governance written by Nehme Azoury and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2014-08-20 with total page 201 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In these constantly challenging times, business practices that were once considered successful, applicable and rewarding are questioned by the implications of increased globalization. National, regional and international market crises have raised the barriers for a necessary implementation of practices related, but not limited, to ethics and governance. In this spirit, this book tackles a potential and desirable way of reinventing and implementing specific types of governance (both at the private and public levels), in order to reorient the current globalization process in a safer and much more efficient way. It is grounded mainly in three disciplines: the first is the economic sciences, given the book’s concern with microeconomic regulation and economic regulation. The second, the business sciences field, allows for the discussion of strategies of relocalization of businesses, social governance and its impact on organizations, the management of information, and disclosure. The final area of study detailed in the book is the political and administrative field, as it sheds light on the public dimension of governance in the educational sector. In short, this book provides strategies for the promotion or restoration of public interest and social democracy.

This book was released on 2000 with total page 360 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The papers in this volume were presented at a conference organized by the Institut Français de Recherche en Afrique (IFRA) at the University of Ibadan on the 26th and 27th of October 1998, as part of the 50 anniversary celebrations of the University. This conference brought together scholars from anglophone and francophone countries who have been collaborating on a research programme which is concerned with elite formation and the restructuring of higher education in sub-Saharan Africa. The project was originally conceived in 1996 by IFRA and the Centre d'Etude d'Afrique Noire (Bordeaux, France). Nigeria, with more than 50 per cent of the continent's university student population and 40 universities, constitutes the major thrust of the study; nevertheless the reports on Kenya, Senegal and Niger are equally informative and demonstrate that survival strategies and student unrest and 'cults' are not exclusive to Nigeria.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Synopsis Challenges of Education Financing and Planning in Africa: What Works and What Does Not Work by : Adebayo Olukoshi
Download or read book Challenges of Education Financing and Planning in Africa: What Works and What Does Not Work written by Adebayo Olukoshi and published by African Books Collective. This book was released on 2007-01-15 with total page 155 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume highlights the proceedings of the two policy dialogue conferences held by the Working Group on Finance and Education (WGFE) in 2004. Part I of the document discusses the endemic crisis that higher educationhas been beset with since the outset of the post colonial period in Africa. It highlights the critical state of higher education systems in Burkina Faso, Mali, Nigeria and Senegal by scrutinizing the causes, manifestations and consequences of the crisis to posit useful recommendations and possible solutions. Part II is a comprehensive review of the challenges facing the financing and planning of all levels and types ofeducation - from kindergarten to graduate school - in selected African countries. The papers reveal the sources and mechanisms of funding education in Africa, drawing attention to the experiences of communities confronted with new funding sources. A new trend, which consists of designing decade long educational development plans, has emerged and is rapidly expanding in numerous African countries. This experience is examined and shared by the authors. This book has contributions in both French and English.
