Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Speaking of Abraham, it is not the simple tale of a character of antiquity, who was famous Abraham that the Bible presents as the father of a people, that is the Jews. Because if this is true, in that it cannot be disputed, according to what the Bible says, it is also true that Abraham is not only the acknowledged father of the Jews, but it is also the father of faith, as the New Testament recognizes it as such. The purpose of our intervention, is not only to talk about this, but mainly highlight the characteristics that Abraham had that from the point of view of faith, made him famous, not only among the Jews, but also in the midst of Christianity. In fact, when Christianity speaks of Abraham and holds him up for example of faith, it does so primarily on the basis of the characteristics that showed in believing in God and in having faith in Him, in all that which God said and the promises the he promised. These are the essential elements of antiquity proved that this man in his time, which made him famous in this area of life, Christianity, do not hesitate to call the Christian character, supported especially by the testimony that the same Jesus He made when talking about him, and pointed for example model to the religious Jews who constantly challenged.

Book Synopsis Historical Dictionary of Italian Cinema by : Gino Moliterno
Download or read book Historical Dictionary of Italian Cinema written by Gino Moliterno and published by Rowman & Littlefield. This book was released on 2020-12-08 with total page 751 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Italian cinema is now regarded as one of the great cinemas of the world. Historically, however, its fortunes have varied. Following a brief moment of glory in the early silent era, Italian cinema appeared to descend almost into irrelevance in the early1920s. A strong revival of the industry which gathered pace during the 1930s was abruptly truncated by the advent of World War II. The end of the war, however, initiated a renewal as films such as Roma città aperta (Rome Open City), Sciuscià (Shoeshine, 1946), and Ladri di biciclette (Bicycle Thieves, 1948), flagbearers of what soon came to be known as Neorealism, attracted unprecedented international acclaim and a reputation that only continued to grow in the following years as Italian films were feted worldwide. Ironically, they were celebrated nowhere more than in the United States, where Italian films consistently garnered the lion's share of the Oscars, with Lina Wertmüller becoming the first woman to ever be nominated for the Best Director award. This second edition of Historical Dictionary of Italian Cinema contains a chronology, an introduction, and an extensive bibliography. The dictionary section has over 400 cross-referenced entries on major movements, directors, actors, actresses, film genres, producers, industry organizations and key films. This book is an excellent resource for students, researchers, and anyone wanting to know more about Italian Cinema.

In this volume, twenty specialists explore the most important aspects of the age including the mechanics and theory of empire, warfare, urbanism, and economy. It also discusses the impact of the great plague, the codification of Roman law, and the many religious upheavals taking place at the time. Consideration is given to imperial relations with the papacy, northern barbarians, the Persians, and other eastern peoples, shedding new light on a dramatic and highly significant historical period.

Book Synopsis The Last Twelve Verses of Mark by : William R. Farmer
Download or read book The Last Twelve Verses of Mark written by William R. Farmer and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2005-10-06 with total page 148 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A study of the authenticity and interpretation of the last twelve verses of St Mark's Gospel. These verses are omitted from at least one important manuscript tradition and queried in most modern translations (though not from the NEB). Professor Farmer traces the history of the text tradition for omission back to Egypt, and argues that one important factor contributing to their omission was the dangerous teaching they seemed to contain: they appear to encourage Christians to handle deadly snakes and drink poisons to prove their faith, a practice which has been revived today by some Christian sects who accept the scriptural authority of these verses. The teaching of these verses has, however, never become established in orthodox Christianity and indeed most Christians are unaware of their doctrinal significance. Professor Farmer reviews all the textual and patristic evidence and examines the most plausible solutions that have been canvassed. This is another substantial contribution to a series that has set the highest standards of scholarship in biblical and New Testament studies.
