Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The King James translators drew upon all of their English predecessors and much more besides. The authors offer both a political and literary history of the Bible. Their purpose is to explain how styles of presenting Scriptures in English developed out of political and ecclesiastical circumstances. The result is a refreshing reassessment of the literary and scholarly accomplishment of all the Renaissance Bibles and a clear account of what is different and distinctive in the King James Version. They also linger over the texts of the Bible, comparing significant passages in the various versions. Such close study of the texts is warranted because the English Bible has had a profound effect on English language, literature, politics and ideas; it has left a lasting impression on the language that we speak today. No other language, except perhaps German, can boast that its vernacular translation of the Bible is a literary masterpiece in its own right.

Book excerpt: Many women are wired to control. You’re the ones who make sure the house is clean, the meals are prepared, the beds are made, the children are dressed, and everyone gets to work, school, and other activities on time. But trying to control everything can be exhausting, and it can also cause friction with your friends and family. This humorous, yet thought-provoking book guides you as you discover for yourself the freedom and reward of living a life “out of control,” in which you allow God to be seated in the rightful place in your life. Armed with relevant biblical and current examples (both to emulate and to avoid), doable ideas, new thought patterns, and practical tools to implement, Let It Go will gently lead you out of the land of over-control and into a place of quiet trust. A companion video-based study for small groups is also available.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Morris dancing, one of the more peculiar of the English folk customs, has been greatly misunderstood. In The History of Morris Dancing, 1458-1750 John Forrest analyses a wealth of evidence to show that Morris dancing does not, as is often assumed, have pagan or ancient origins. He examines early documentation to draw Morris traditions into the wide area of communal custom and public celebrations, showing the passage of dance ideas between groups previously considered folklorically distinct. Careful, detailed and encyclopaedic, The History of Morris Dancing, 1458-1750, is an essential reference work for specialists in English drama and social historians of the period, as well as offering fascinating insight for those who enjoy Morris dancing.

Book excerpt: A moving memoir from a woman who made a fortune in a man's world and then gave it all away...soon to be turned into a film In 1962, Stephanie 'Steve' Shirley created a software company when the concept of software barely existed. Freelance Programmers employed women to work on complex projects such as Concorde's black box recorder from the comfort of their own home. Shirley empowered a generation of women in technology, giving them unheard of freedom to choose their own hours and manage their own workloads. The business thrived and Shirley gradually transferred ownership to her staff, creating 70 millionaires in the process. Let It Go explores Shirley's trail blazing career as an entrepreneur but it also charts her incredible personal story - her dramatic arrival in England as an unaccompanied Kindertransport refugee during World War Two and the tragic loss of her only child who suffered severely from Autism. Today, Dame Stephanie Shirley is one of Britain's leading philanthropists, devoting most of her time, energy and wealth to charities that are close to her heart. In Let It Go, Shirley tells her inspirational story and explains why giving her wealth away - letting it go - has brought her infinitely more happiness and fulfilment than acquiring it in the first place. Co-written with Richard Askwith, the former Executive Editor of The Independent and the award-winning author of seven books in his own name, including biographies of Emil Zátopek and Lata Brandisová. 'An extraordinary tale of creativity and resilience' - Guardian 'This engrossing story of an extraordinary life is filled with lessons in what it means to be human' - Financial Times

Book excerpt: Sometimes it becomes difficult for us to recognize the beauty of the forest in its full splendour and diverse grandeur, even though it has always been right in front of us. Our view becomes obscured by the thick, opaque tangle of branches. To overcome this universal challenge for us all, we need to be able to adopt a new perspective. This can come from meeting new people and considering their point of view, or even by putting oneself in an entirely different time and place. In doing so, even the most stubborn and set-in-their ways can be jostled out of their slumber and comforting complacency. The elements necessary for this process of self-transformation are already in our souls for those who allow them to surface, while for others who are more resistant, a more literal journey can be exactly what is required to shake us loose from our preconceived notions.

Book excerpt: My book is based on a true story. I was motivated to write this book to help the reader understand that determination is your success. The obstacles we experience in our life cannot stop us get what we want to gain in life. The girl called Chloe lived through hell on earth, but that did not make her give up in life. She had a very high faith and the worse things seemed to be at her surrounding the more she was motivated to build her life and never to live in such situation or poverty again. Chloes determination is to see that her children will never live the life she lived. Chloe stay focused at the time. She never even ran away from those who were hostile to her. Her life is a great testimony for those who saw her growing up, including her grandmother and all the villagers and her family. She completely transformed her life. She had such a high spirit that she knew no lion can frighten her. She believed she will give a giant fight, for she knew it was her right to have happiness at last. This book can help a reader to have some courage to face life under whatever the circumstances. My point of writing my book is that it came to my understanding that many people blame themselves because of wicked people who try to make their selves happy by doing evil and abusing others. There are people who are losers in life, and they want everyone to be where they are. This book is to help you as a reader know that these kinds of bad guys can never be satisfied whether they are rich or poor. Never give up. Chloe did not give up. She was so much of an example to the school where she went, including her fellow students who bullied her in school because of her poverty. Poverty is unjust; it falls to any man at any time.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Perhaps the most extensive book to date ever written on the Montgomery Bus Boycott, Let My People Go! may prove to be the encyclopedia of this pivotal event in American history. While other books written on the boycott primarily focus on the point of view of one key leader, this book discusses the boycott from several viewpoints and takes the reader on an historical journey through time, illustrating how God consistently intervened in the course of history to free His people from the evils of human injustice. Although historically based, this book is mostly inspirational, in that readers will feel inspired to activism. This work serves, in particular, to remind readers that the same God who delivered 50,000 African-American citizens of Montgomery out of the bondage of Jim Crow, is still in the business of delivering His people out of any circumstances. God still speaks to the forces of evil by willing, "Let My People Go!"
