The book is unique in the completeness of its approach: from the time of initial presentation, to the time patients resume their normal lives. Although written primarily for surgeons, its value extends to all members of the multi-disciplinary team managing Head and Neck Cancer patients today.

Book Synopsis Compounded Topical Pain Creams by : National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine
Download or read book Compounded Topical Pain Creams written by National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2020-07-21 with total page 353 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Pain is both a symptom and a disease. It manifests in multiple forms and its treatment is complex. Physical, social, economic, and emotional consequences of pain can impair an individual's overall health, well-being, productivity, and relationships in myriad ways. The impact of pain at a population level is vast and, while estimates differ, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported that 50 million U.S. adults are living in pain. In terms of pain's global impact, estimates suggest the problem affects approximately 1 in 5 adults across the world, with nearly 1 in 10 adults newly diagnosed with chronic pain each year. In recent years, the issues surrounding the complexity of pain management have contributed to increased demand for alternative strategies for treating pain. One such strategy is to expand use of topical pain medicationsâ€"medications applied to intact skin. This nonoral route of administration for pain medication has the potential benefit, in theory, of local activity and fewer systemic side effects. Compounding is an age-old pharmaceutical practice of combining, mixing, or adjusting ingredients to create a tailored medication to meet the needs of a patient. The aim of compounding, historically, has been to provide patients with access to therapeutic alternatives that are safe and effective, especially for people with clinical needs that cannot otherwise be met by commercially available FDA-approved drugs. Compounded Topical Pain Creams explores issues regarding the safety and effectiveness of the ingredients in these pain creams. This report analyzes the available scientific data relating to the ingredients used in compounded topical pain creams and offers recommendations regarding the treatment of patients.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.
Book Synopsis Oeil et Maladies systémiques by : SÈVE Pascal, KODJIKIAN Laurent
Download or read book Oeil et Maladies systémiques written by SÈVE Pascal, KODJIKIAN Laurent and published by Lavoisier. This book was released on 2013-11-25 with total page 564 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Synopsis Atlas of Cutaneous Branch Territories for the Diagnosis of Neuropathic Pain by : Claude J. Spicher
Download or read book Atlas of Cutaneous Branch Territories for the Diagnosis of Neuropathic Pain written by Claude J. Spicher and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-09-24 with total page 107 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This atlas is the result of research involving over 3,000 patients consecutively recruited since 2004. Clinical practice gives the opportunity to observe many more Aβ axonal lesions (axonotmesis) than transections (neurotmesis), consequently the mapped hypo aesthetic territories are partial. Therefore, the authors define for each cutaneous nerve branch, the autonomous territory and the boundary markers of the largest territory of cutaneous origin. Each anatomical chart of a cutaneous branch is the superposition of tens, even hundreds of observations seen in clinical practice – based on 3,133 maps of observed cutaneous hypoaesthetic territories. The data collected has also been cross-referenced with that published in nearly 100 other anatomy books. This 1st English edition – based on the 3rd French edition published by Sauramps Medical – illustrates the usefulness of anatomical knowledge for clinical practice. More precisely, it seeks to demonstrate how these topographic elements can offer valuable support, both for the clinical anamnesis, and for the clinical examination of neuropathic pain patients. This atlas is at the crossroads between the medical and rehabilitation disciplines. Accordingly, it addresses the needs of medical doctors, from GPs to specialists, and of pain therapists, and offers a valuable asset for all health professionals who are dedicated to the management of pain and associated problems.

Book Synopsis Chronic Postsurgical Pain by : Gérard Mick
Download or read book Chronic Postsurgical Pain written by Gérard Mick and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2014-02-20 with total page 175 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Primum non nocere... The fact that a surgical procedure can leave any kind of pain casts a shadow over this tenet, which is seen as the basis of medical practice and anchor of its principle ethic... It is all the more surprising in that medicine has only paid attention to this paradoxical chronic pain situation for the past few years. Clarifying the knowledge acquired in this field has become all the more urgent for any care-giver today confronted by a legitimate request from patients: Why and how can a surgical procedure, which is supposed to bring relief, leave behind an unacceptable sequela? This is the approach which the contributors to this new subject of major clinical interest invite you to follow as you work your way through this book.

It is must reading not only for dental clinicians but also for pain scientists and specialists, neurologists, and other clinicians.
