Les articles ici réunis proposent d’interroger ensemble pratiques et croyances des enseignants dans dix systèmes scolaires et contextes socioculturels contrastés. Si le dossier met d’abord en lumière la diversité des acceptions de ces deux termes, il interroge surtout le changement en éducation et les dilemmes que celui-ci soulève, entre acceptation des consignes institutionnelles et expertise professionnelle issue de la pratique. Aux États-Unis, dans les no excuses charter schools, des règles locales strictes empêchent les enseignants de mettre en œuvre des pratiques qu’ils jugent plus efficaces. En Corée du Sud, malgré d’excellents résultats aux tests PISA, certains enseignants se montrent critiques à l’égard des standards nationaux qui leur semblent parfois passer à côté d’une réelle réussite scolaire pour les élèves. En Tunisie, les directives officielles, en assurant l’unicité du système éducatif, ne risquent-elles pas de sacrifier l’implication des enseignants et de remettre en question l’idéal libérateur de l’école ? Au Brésil, la défiance vis-à-vis des politiques éducatives actuelles peut apparaître comme le seul recours des enseignants pour mettre en œuvre des méthodes en lesquelles ils croient, respectueuses des élèves et des principes démocratiques. Si, en Afrique de l’Ouest, il existe un écart entre les croyances des enseignants et celles des élites politiques, la défiance des enseignants vis-à-vis des politiques publiques peut aussi consolider les liens de solidarité entre eux, comme en Amérique du Nord, et notamment au Québec. De même, en France, les enseignants, en dépit d’un « malaise » régulièrement évoqué, croient fortement en leur utilité vis-à-vis des élèves, éprouvée par la pratique. Dès lors, dans les efforts faits pour amener les enseignants à modifier leurs croyances, puis leurs pratiques, certaines actions de formation peuvent-elles s’avérer plus efficaces que d’autres ? Des recherches menées en Suisse, en Pologne et en Belgique plaident en ce sens, preuve que les actions engagées ne restent pas sans effet. In Authentically African, Sarah Van Beurden traces the relationship between the possession, definition, and display of art and the construction of cultural authenticity and political legitimacy from the late colonial until the postcolonial era. Her study of the interconnected histories of these two institutions is the first history of an art museum in Africa, and the only work of its kind in English. Drawing on Flemish-language sources other scholars have been unable to access, Van Beurden illuminates the politics of museum collections, showing how the IMNZ became a showpiece in Mobutu’s effort to revive “authentic” African culture. She reconstructs debates between Belgian and Congolese museum professionals, revealing how the dynamics of decolonization played out in the fields of the museum and international heritage conservation. Finally, she casts light on the art market, showing how the traveling displays put on by the IMNZ helped intensify collectors’ interest and generate an international market for Congolese art.
