This book was released on 2010-10-04 with total page 289 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The true tale of an edenic Rocky Mountain town and what transpired when a predatory species returned to its ancestral home. When, in the late 1980s, residents of Boulder, Colorado, suddenly began to see mountain lions in their yards, it became clear that the cats had repopulated the land after decades of persecution. Here, in a riveting environmental fable that recalls Peter Benchley's thriller Jaws, journalist David Baron traces the history of the mountain lion and chronicles Boulder's effort to coexist with its new neighbors. A parable for our times, The Beast in the Garden is a scientific detective story and a real-life drama, a tragic tale of the struggle between two highly evolved predators: man and beast.

Book Synopsis Devastations in the Garden of Eden by : Abisai Temba
Download or read book Devastations in the Garden of Eden written by Abisai Temba and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2019-05-02 with total page 350 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Devastation in the Garden of Eden is a book in which the author aims to paint a picture of what actually has been happening on Kilimanjaro Mountain area. He almost emotionally endeavors to enlighten mankind and especially people who know Mount Kilimanjaro and the area around it about how attractive the mountain and the area around has been since the time immemorial. It was such a masterpiece of God, giving the example of the Biblical Garden of Eden in which God put the first man and woman, but in spite of the perfection, beauty, and bounty of resources that were put in that garden, still mankind decided to trespass. They decided to disobey God’s rules, and in the end, they got banished from the garden. The author has deliberately made this comparison with the Garden of Eden for the similarities are so closely related. In reality, that is exactly what the mountain area was like. Many people from different parts of the world have stood up and bear witness that Kilimanjaro Mountain is not only a geographical place somewhere in the continent of Africa but is a unique place and serves as a magnet to attract the humankind from various parts of the world and of various walks of life to it. Unfortunately, we will soon or later see mankind getting banished from Kilimanjaro and the area around it. Like what happened in the Garden of Eden, Kilimanjaro has faced a lot of mismanagement, and that has been in spite of the laws, regulations, and rules that, at one historical time or the other, have been put in place. Natural resources have disappeared in various ways and forms. People, ecology, and the overall ecosystem are being put to great danger. The author shows concern and calls upon the local as well as international community to come forth to address the situation. He does not attempt to point an accusing figure to any specific person or community, as almost all of us have been involved in one form or the other. He thus concludes that this should not be a war for one person, one community, or one nation, but the whole global community should join hands to reverse the ongoing situation. He ends with a remark “We must hang together, or we will all perish.”

Download or read book Mahlangeni written by Kobie Kruger and published by Penguin Random House South Africa. This book was released on 2012-10-02 with total page 281 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mahlangeni, the Tsonga word for 'meeting place', is one of the most remote ranger stations in the Kruger National Park. Far from everywhere, this isolated corner of the wilderness was home for eleven years to Kobie Krüger, wife of the ranger in charge of the station, and their three daughters. Running a household and raising a family in a place where leopards, elephants, snakes and the like are your only neighbours, where you have no telephone, and where a trip to town means first crossing a river full of hippos and crocodiles, is hardly a straightforward business. But Kobie Krüger tackled each problem with undaunted pragmatism and an energy that gives new meaning to the word resourceful. Written with warmth, humour and a charm that reflects her deep love of the solitude of the wilderness and her respect for its creatures, great and small, her story of life at Mahlangeni will delight all lovers of wild places.

Book Synopsis Conversations with Leopard by : Paula Burns
Download or read book Conversations with Leopard written by Paula Burns and published by Troubador Publishing Ltd. This book was released on 2015-03-28 with total page 252 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Conversations with Leopard, is a meditative account of living with chronic illness - portrayed through a delicate interweaving of memoir and magic realism. Writing from within the confines of her bedroom, the narrator recalls the moment in time when she began to take on the persona of a hunted leopard - a strange metamorphosis of gender and identity that takes place in the weeks leading up to her becoming sick. The narrative has been written in real time - spanning a period of twenty four years (a period of time close to the predicted life span of a leopard in captivity). The author’s garden (an ever-present backdrop) is the doorway to a magical space inhabited by Sun and Moon (characterized as jealous sisters) and a Spirit Child (the narrator’s lost childhood self). Interwoven within this backdrop is the story of a young girl growing up in the Midlands in the 1950’s and 1960’s and her affection for the alternative world of her grandparents who live ‘up North’. The leopard, known simply as Leopard, becomes a character in his own right and the narrator’s friend and confidant. Leopard is astute and challenges the narrator as she mulls over her life history and present situation. With a lightness of touch, and insightful humour, the narrator evokes the perennial big questions of life - culminating in the realisation that the answer to all of our doubts and uncertainties is nearer and simpler than we allow.
