Book excerpt: This publication provides food business operators with practical guidance on how to comply with general food hygiene legislation and related requirements. It has been officially recognised by the UK Food Standards Agency and agreed with enforcers, industry and other relevant stakeholders. The use of this guidance is optional and food business operators can choose to comply in other ways. However, where a food business operator is following the guidance in a recognised industry guide, the enforcement authority must take this into account when assessing compliance with the legislation.
Book Synopsis Regulating Food-borne Illness by : Richard Hyde
Download or read book Regulating Food-borne Illness written by Richard Hyde and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2015-08-27 with total page 319 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When faced with tackling food-borne illness, regulators have a number of competing goals. They must investigate in order to discover the source of the illness. Once the source is identified they must take action to prevent further cases of illness occurring. Finally, once the illness is under control, they may wish to take enforcement action against those responsible. Regulating Food-Borne Illness uses interviews and documentary analysis to examine the actions of regulators and considers how they balance these three tasks. Central to the regulators' role is the collection of information. Without information about the source, control or enforcement action cannot be taken. Investigation must therefore take place to produce the necessary information. Utilising theoretical frameworks drawn from regulation and biosecurity, Regulating Food-Borne Illness shows that control is prioritised, and that investigatory steps are chosen in order to ensure that the information necessary for control, rather than enforcement, is collected. This has the effect of reducing the possibility that enforcement action can be taken. The difficulty of evidence gathering and case-building in food-borne illness cases is exposed, and the author considers the methods aimed at reducing the difficulty of bringing successful enforcement action.

This book was released on 2018-03-16 with total page 96 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Food safety (Summaries of EU Legislation) 2018 The European Union's food safety policy aims to protect consumers, while guaranteeing the smooth operation of the single market. Dating from 2003, the policy centres on the concept of traceability both of inputs (e.g. animal feed) and of outputs (e.g. primary production, processing, storage, transport and retail sale). The EU has agreed standards to ensure food hygiene, animal health and welfare, and plant health and to control contamination from external substances, such as pesticides. Rigorous checks are carried out at every stage, and imports (e.g. meat) from outside the EU are required to meet the same standards and go through the same checks as food produced within the EU.
