Book Synopsis Solving Practical Engineering Mechanics Problems by : Sayavur Bakhtiyarov
Download or read book Solving Practical Engineering Mechanics Problems written by Sayavur Bakhtiyarov and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-05-31 with total page 125 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Engineering mechanics is one of the fundamental branches of science that is important in the education of professional engineers of any major. Most of the basic engineering courses, such as mechanics of materials, fluid and gas mechanics, machine design, mechatronics, acoustics, vibrations, etc. are based on engineering mechanics courses. In order to absorb the materials of engineering mechanics, it is not enough to consume just theoretical laws and theorems—a student also must develop an ability to solve practical problems. Therefore, it is necessary to solve many problems independently. This book is a part of a four-book series designed to supplement the engineering mechanics courses. This series instructs and applies the principles required to solve practical engineering problems in the following branches of mechanics: statics, kinematics, dynamics, and advanced kinetics. Each book contains between 6 and 8 topics on its specific branch and each topic features 30 problems to be assigned as homework, tests, and/or midterm/final exams with the consent of the instructor. A solution of one similar sample problem from each topic is provided. This first book contains seven topics of statics, the branch of mechanics concerned with the analysis of forces acting on construction systems without an acceleration (a state of the static equilibrium). The book targets the undergraduate students of the sophomore/junior level majoring in science and engineering.

Book excerpt: Introduction to Kinematics and Dynamics of Machinery is presented in lecture notes format and is suitable for a single-semester three credit hour course taken by juniors in an undergraduate degree program majoring in mechanical engineering. It is based on the lecture notes for a required course with a similar title given to junior (and occasionally senior) undergraduate students by the author in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Calgary from 1981 and since 1996 at the University of Nebraska, Lincoln. The emphasis is on fundamental concepts, theory, analysis, and design of mechanisms with applications. While it is aimed at junior undergraduates majoring in mechanical engineering, it is suitable for junior undergraduates in biological system engineering, aerospace engineering, construction management, and architectural engineering.

Book Synopsis Fluid Mechanics Experiments by : Robabeh Jazaei
Download or read book Fluid Mechanics Experiments written by Robabeh Jazaei and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-05-31 with total page 101 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fluid mechanics is one of the most challenging undergraduate courses for engineering students. The fluid mechanics lab facilitates students’ learning in a hands-on environment. The primary objective of this book is to provide a graphical lab manual for the fluid mechanics laboratory. The manual is divided into six chapters to cover the main topics of undergraduate-level fluid mechanics. Chapter 1 begins with an overview of laboratory objectives and the introduction of technical laboratory report content. In Chapter 1, error analysis is discussed by providing examples. In Chapter 2, fluid properties including viscosity, density, temperature, specific weight, and specific gravity are discussed. Chapter 3 revolves around the fluid statics include pressure measurement using piezometers and manometers. Additionally, hydrostatic pressure on the submerged plane and curved surfaces as well as buoyancy and Archimedes’ Principle are examined in Chapter 3. In Chapter 4, several core concepts of fluid dynamics are discussed. This chapter begins with defining a control system based on which momentum analysis of the flow system is explained. The rest of the chapter is allotted to the force acting on a control system, the linear momentum equation, and the energy equation. Chapter 4 also covers the hydraulic grade line and energy grade line experiment. The effect of orifice and changing cross-sectional area by using Bernoulli’s’ equation is presented in Chapter 4. The application of the siphon is extended from Chapter 4 by applying Bernoulli’s’ equation. The last two chapters cover various topics in both internal and external flows which are of great importance in engineering design. Chapter 5 deals with internal flow including Reynolds number, flow classification, flow rate measurement, and velocity profile. The last experiment in Chapter 5 is devoted to a deep understanding of internal flow concepts in a piping system. In this experiment, students learn how to measure minor and major head losses as well as the impact of piping materials on the hydrodynamics behavior of the flow. Finally, open channels, weirs, specific energy, and flow classification, hydraulic jump, and sluice gate experiments are covered in Chapter 6.
Book Synopsis Engineering Mechanics by : C. Hartsuijker
Download or read book Engineering Mechanics written by C. Hartsuijker and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2007-03-06 with total page 780 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the first of two volumes introducing structural and continuum mechanics in a comprehensive and consistent way. The current book presents all theoretical developments both in text and by means of an extensive set of figures. This same approach is used in the many examples, drawings and problems. Both formal and intuitive (engineering) arguments are used in parallel to derive the principles used, for instance in bending moment diagrams and shear force diagrams. A very important aspect of this book is the straightforward and consistent sign convention, based on the stress definitions of continuum mechanics. The book is suitable for self-education.

Book Synopsis Engineering Dynamics by : N. Jeremy Kasdin
Download or read book Engineering Dynamics written by N. Jeremy Kasdin and published by Princeton University Press. This book was released on 2011-02-22 with total page 704 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This textbook introduces undergraduate students to engineering dynamics using an innovative approach that is at once accessible and comprehensive. Combining the strengths of both beginner and advanced dynamics texts, this book has students solving dynamics problems from the very start and gradually guides them from the basics to increasingly more challenging topics without ever sacrificing rigor. Engineering Dynamics spans the full range of mechanics problems, from one-dimensional particle kinematics to three-dimensional rigid-body dynamics, including an introduction to Lagrange's and Kane's methods. It skillfully blends an easy-to-read, conversational style with careful attention to the physics and mathematics of engineering dynamics, and emphasizes the formal systematic notation students need to solve problems correctly and succeed in more advanced courses. This richly illustrated textbook features numerous real-world examples and problems, incorporating a wide range of difficulty; ample use of MATLAB for solving problems; helpful tutorials; suggestions for further reading; and detailed appendixes. Provides an accessible yet rigorous introduction to engineering dynamics Uses an explicit vector-based notation to facilitate understanding Professors: A supplementary Instructor's Manual is available for this book. It is restricted to teachers using the text in courses. For information on how to obtain a copy, refer to: http://press.princeton.edu/class_use/solutions.html

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The lectures here reported were first delivered in August and September, 1965, for the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engi neering at syracuse University, New York under the sponsorship of the New York State Science and Technology Foundation. Lectures 1-6 and 22-23 are revised from a version prepared by Professor Kin N. Tong on the basis of a transcription of the lectures, kindly provided by Professor S. Eskinazi. The remainder of th~ text has been written out afresh from my own notes. Much of the same ground was covered in my lectures to the Austra lian Mathematical Society's Summer Research Institute at Melbourne in January and February, 1966, and for the parts affected the text conforms to this latter presentation. I am grateful to Professors C.-C. Wang and K. N. Tong for criticism of the manuscript. These lectures constitute a course, not a treatise. Names are attached to theorems justly, to the best of my knowledge, but are not intended to replace a history of the subject or references to the sources.
