Dazu werden zunächst die Gründe und Ursachen für eine Flucht erläutert unter besonderer Berücksichtigung von Jugendlichen auf der Flucht. Anschließend wird der Begriff unbegleitete minderjährige Flüchtlinge (UMF) definiert, sowie der Bezug zur Sozialen Arbeit hergestellt, im Hinblick auf die Herausforderungen denen (minderjährige) Flüchtlinge begegnen können, Herausforderungen wie z.B. der Zugang zu Bildung oder die Verarbeitung der Fluchtgeschichte. Als wichtiges Konzept der Sozialen Arbeit für die Arbeit mit unbegleiteten minderjährigen Flüchtlingen, denen sich derartige Herausforderungen stellen, soll dann das Konzept der Lebensweltorientierung diskutiert werden. Das Konzept wird deshalb zunächst erläutert und anschließend in Verbindung mit Flüchtlingen im Jugendalter gebracht. Dabei geht es um die Aspekte des rechtlichen Umgangs mit unbegleiteten minderjährigen Flüchtlingen, beziehungsweise welche Möglichkeiten die Soziale Arbeit hat, sie zu unterstützen und unterzubringen. Die Verbindung der lebensweltorientierten Sozialen Arbeit mit Flüchtlingen im Jugendalter spiegelt den Hauptaspekt dieser Arbeit wider und wird im Fazit noch einmal aufgegriffen. Ziel ist es, die Möglichkeiten durch Lebensweltorientierung aufzuzeigen und klarzustellen wie wichtig dieses Konzept in der Arbeit mit minderjährigen Flüchtlingen ist.

Durch die falschen Informationen geraten sie unter starken Erfolgsdruck möglichst zeitnah alle Wünsche und Erwartungen umzusetzen, um sich und meist auch ihren Herkunftsfamilien eine sichere Zukunft zu ermöglichen. Die Konfrontation mit den realen Gegebenheiten in Deutschland lässt die Träume und Hoffnungen der Jugendlichen "zerplatzen" und lässt Gefühle von Unsicherheit, Ohnmacht und Ausgeliefertsein zurück. Given the restricted contact with the world outside of the immigration detention centre, the book juxtaposes forms and processes of technology-mediated communication between institutionalised detention, with those of displacement and settlement. It finds that while there are obstacles to communication in situations of conflict and dislocation, asylum seekers and refugees are able to ‘make do’ with the technology options available to them in ways which were less constrained than in detention settings. The book also outlines how communication practices during the settlement process focus on learning new technologies, and repairing the disconnections with family members resulting from separation and detention.
