Download or read book Ethics and Politics written by Peter Kemp and published by LIT Verlag Münster. This book was released on 2015 with total page 278 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The main theme of volume 4 of Eco-ethica is Ethics and Politics. In the first and second part, the authors examine the sometimes conflictual relationship between ethics and politics from an eco-ethical perspective. They investigate how our conceptions of both ethics and politics have been shaped historically as well as by today's technological conjuncture. The third part continues the discussion of French philosopher Paul Ricoeur (1913 - 2005) begun in volume 3. The essays here focus on how his conception of the connections and differences between ethics and politics led him to embrace certain paradoxes in politics and forced him to become suspicious of apolitical thinking.
Book Synopsis Encyclopedia of Professionalization by : Didier Demaziere
Download or read book Encyclopedia of Professionalization written by Didier Demaziere and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2024-12-12 with total page 340 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Professionalization has become a given in the worlds of work and education. For a wide variety of professions, public and private organizations and training and further education courses, professionalization is an inescapable reality. However, it takes on diverse, even contradictory meanings, according to what it represents: a managerial imperative imposed by public or managerial policies, or a set of goals defined by an ideal of service or quality of work. The purpose of Encyclopedia of Professionalization is to discuss the current challenges facing professionalization and, by exploring major research traditions, to clarify the meanings associated with this concept and the various phenomena it encompasses. Three major notions of professionalization are examined: the manufacturing of professions in pursuit of autonomy, the rise of professionalisms embodying notions of a job well done, and the construction of renewed professionalities at the very heart of work situations and training systems.

Book Synopsis ETINED - Volume 2 - Principes éthiques by : Ian Smith
Download or read book ETINED - Volume 2 - Principes éthiques written by Ian Smith and published by Council of Europe. This book was released on 2016-11-01 with total page 64 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Synopsis Architecture, Ethics, and Technology by : Louise Pelletier
Download or read book Architecture, Ethics, and Technology written by Louise Pelletier and published by McGill-Queen's Press - MQUP. This book was released on 1994-03-10 with total page 254 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An enlightened discussion of all relevant aspects of architecture shows the necessity for revision of commonly held assumptions about the nature of architectural history, theory, representation, and ideation; the production of buildings in the postindustrial city; and professional ethics. These topics provide the basis for the fourteen interdisciplinary papers presented here. The introductory section includes an examination of the epistemological origins of technology in the early modern European context and two alternative visions of ethics and its potential relevance for architecture. The second part presents four perspectives on important questions about how we represent buildings and the ethical values involved in that representation. "Ethics and Poetics in the Context of Technological Production" considers the role of philosophical ethics (i.e., a rational structure of categories in architectural practice) and the possibility, and desirability, of incorporating ethical reflections into the generation of architectural form. "The Architectural Uses of History and Narrative in a Technocratic World" explores alternatives for articulating an ethical attitude in forms of discourse other than philosophy and science. These papers were originally presented at the bilingual symposium "Architecture, Ethics, and Technology" held at the Canadian Centre for Architecture in Montreal in 1991.
Book Synopsis The Role of Binational Entrepreneurs as Social and Economic Bridge Builders Between Europe and North Africa by : Fatima Lahnait
Download or read book The Role of Binational Entrepreneurs as Social and Economic Bridge Builders Between Europe and North Africa written by Fatima Lahnait and published by IOS Press. This book was released on 2009 with total page 184 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of the role of binational entrepreneurs as social and economic bridge builders between Europe and North Africa is to show academics and practitioners the importance of the role of European bi-nationals. It contains chapters by professional practitioners from a number of countries and businesses, and from journalists and security agency members. The main issues discussed are the principle features of successful integration of North African immigrants into French and Spanish societies and the causes and symptoms of dysfunctional integration; how a partnership network can be established between the Maghreb diaspora in France and Spain and their parent countries, what the obstacles of such a network are and what can be used to develop it; how emigrants of dual nationality are viewed in their countries of origin and how the process of social reintegration can be assured; if dual nationals can play a role in giving an impetus to economic growth in North African countries and if France and Spain can adopt measures to facilitate this process; the respective roles of government and NGOs and international organizations; and how relevant the lessons are that can be learned from this case study to the relationships between other immigrant populations and their host countries. This book includes some suggestions for action discussed in the workshop prior to this publication.
Book Synopsis Coping and Pulling Through by : Vivianne Châtel
Download or read book Coping and Pulling Through written by Vivianne Châtel and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2019-06-04 with total page 175 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Originally published in 2004. Exclusion is a popular area of sociological research, with much analysis pointing towards survival practices and inclusion mechanisms as ways to cope with and confront exclusion. However, the question of what it means to act and how it is possible to do so from a vulnerable situation has yet to be properly addressed. This resourceful volume takes on this challenge, examining how to react and the measures to employ in instances of material and symbolic deprivation. It analyzes whether alliances can be formed and their potential benefit, and discusses which supports are available despite structural inequality and no opportunity for reciprocation. Drawing together illustrative case studies from across Europe, the contributors consider in depth how a community or individual can take support from a spoiled identity and transform both it and the physical situation. This illuminating volume also includes discussions of living without support, security of living conditions and dignity, claims for citizenship, collective action, continuity and survival. It proposes an innovative and groundbreaking theory for 'weak' action.

Book Synopsis Aesthetics and Ideology in Contemporary Literature and Drama by : René Agostini
Download or read book Aesthetics and Ideology in Contemporary Literature and Drama written by René Agostini and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2015-09-10 with total page 365 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The conviction that the development and promotion of the arts, humanities and culture through the study of literature and the aesthetic are the fundamental constituents of any progress in society is at the heart of this volume. The essays gathered here explore the role of the imagination and aesthetic awareness in an age when the corporatization of knowledge is in the process of transforming literary studies, and political commitment is in danger of disappearing behind a supposedly post-ideological late-capitalist consensus. The main focus of the volume is the mutual implication of aesthetics and ideology and the status and value of different types of art within the political arena. Challenging issues in contemporary aesthetics are examined within the wider framework of current debates on the disappearance of the real, the crisis in representation, and the use of new media. The wide range of examples collected here, stretching from experimental poetry in post-war Germany, political commitment in twentieth-century French theatre, and countercultural Rumanian theatre under Ceaușescu, to Neo-Victorian fiction, Verbatim theatre in the UK, and political theatre for the masses in Estonia, vouchsafe unique insights into the intersection of aesthetics and ideology and the practical consequences thereof. As such, the volume opens up a space for a meaningful engagement with authentic forms of art from inside and outside the Anglosphere, and, ultimately, uses these examples as a platform from which to imagine some form of “aesthethics”, representing an ideal union of aesthetics and ideology. This concept, first coined by the French philosopher Philippe Lacoue-Labarthe, will prove to be relevant both within the parameters of the examples discussed here, but also beyond, for the contributors to this volume are unanimous in refusing to believe that aesthetics and ideology can exist one without the other, and in recognizing the centrality of ethics in any discussion of these notions.
Book Synopsis Justice in the Workplace by : Matthieu de Nanteuil
Download or read book Justice in the Workplace written by Matthieu de Nanteuil and published by Edward Elgar Publishing. This book was released on 2021-05-28 with total page 224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This timely book explores new social justice challenges in the workplace. Adopting a long-term perspective, it focuses on value conflicts, or ethical dilemmas, in contemporary organisations and ways to overcome them. Matthieu de Nanteuil demonstrates that the existence of value conflicts is not in itself problematic, but problems arise as actors do not have a frame of justice that allows them to overcome these conflicts without renouncing their deeply held values.
Book Synopsis Annuaire Europeen 2000/European Yearbook 2000 by : Francis Rosensteil
Download or read book Annuaire Europeen 2000/European Yearbook 2000 written by Francis Rosensteil and published by Martinus Nijhoff Publishers. This book was released on 2001-07-01 with total page 1154 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The year 2000's most significant international event was, almost certainly, neither political nor military, but scientific - the announcement, in June, that the human genome had been almost totally decoded. Future generations may well see this as a major turning point, opening the way to radical changes in diagnosis, prognosis, and medical treatment. Often compared with the space programme, this vast enterprise still generates misgivings: this new power, which human beings now have, to modify the genetic heritage of living creatures raises fundamentally new ethical questions - and society as a whole will have to find the answers. In fact, the accelerating pace of scientific and technical progress seems to be reviving atavistic anxieties, some rational, others less so. Recent public-health crises, including the mad cow disease' scare, which lasted into 2000, have fuelled these fears. The public's rejection of GMOs (Genetically Modified Organisms) - verging on a crusade in some countries - tells its own story. As regards conflict, 2000 saw the Middle East peace process grind to a halt, and the Intifada resume. In Europe, the situation in Kosovo and Chechnya, both the scenes of fighting in 1999, stayed precarious. Peace and democracy did score some successes, however, particularly in Europe: the centre-left's victory in Croatia, sweeping former President Tudjman's party off the scene, the democratic party's triumph in Bosnia, and the fall of the Milosevic regime in Serbia.
